It’s so cool that your wife doesn’t mind exploring places with you (on foot!) and even being your videographer. Good idea on a series exploring the neighbourhoods! Btw if you haven’t removed the curry stain on your shirt, rub some Mama Lemon on it 😂
Ghib-san, you can get Asao-san (before he returns Japan, and since he's already well-trained tracking long distance on foot in the jungle during NS) to join you on hiking trips in Singapore, can try the 14km (3hr) route starting from Caldecott Mrt>MacRitchie Reservoir Park>Prunus Trail>Peirce Track>Pipeline Trail>Rifle Range Road>Pipeline Trail>Catchment Path>Bukit Timah Hill Main Road>Bukit Timah Hill Summit>Beauty World Mrt, then finish off eating again at Bukit Timah Food Centre (maybe review the "Butakin" hawker ramen stall).
You can also hike the 13km (3hr) route from Marsiling Mrt>Woodlands Ave 3>Pipeline Trail along BKE>Passing SLE>Crossing Mandai Road>Passing BKE>Passing KJE>Zhenghua Nature Park>Passing Dairy Farm Road>Rifle Range Road (end of Pipeline Trail)>Durian Loop>Beauty World Mrt, then end off with hearty meal again at Bukit Timah Food Centre or further down Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre.
As a Singaporean living overseas, I really enjoyed watching you explore the local places without a pre-conceived notion of how that place ought to be portrayed. Missing cai tao kuey now!
Thanks for this clip which bring back memory of my kampong days I stayed in this area from 1963 for 10 years at Jalan Jurong Kechil, Toh Yi Drive when it was indicated as Track 1 behind the Buddhist Temple and roam around Rifle Range, Hindhede Quarry when it was a kampong with red mud road, small streams, Bukit Timah Hill and the railway tracks. Daily at about noon and 5pm dynamites were detonated to get the granites at the quarry.
During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore this area was an entertainment centre for the Japanese troops. The food centre in the Beauty Centre you should try the herbal mutton soup. The chinese Temple used to provide cremation service. The HDB area was once a small hill with kampongs.
Great video Ghib! I was born in Singapore and moved to Perth, australia in 1985. There are Sooo many places i havent been so i love watching your food adventure videos. One thing i try and do when i'm back there on holidays is pick out an MRT station and go visit and explore. Much like you did here. Keep up the great content. Arigato :-)
Hello Ghib! Really enjoy watching your videos and you've just explored my neighborhood! It seems like the timing you went to the hawker centre, not many stalls were opened. Though I've never tried the satay bee hoon, I hear and see that many people are always queuing for it. Further down, there's Bukit Timah Plaza, at the basement, there's a dessert shop Le Tian Tian which sells nice desserts like peach gum and mango pudding. Thank you for showcasing my neighborhood. Please come back again! :)
This is a really chill neighbourhood, one of the older ones around with all the best parts of old school cool. And it's very lively too, thanks to many nearby schools/higher education
Hi Ghib, Beauty world is one area I visited almost every week, when i was living in Singapore, right at the Beauty world center, for the foot massages and the hawker food ! Love watching all your food adventures! Really looking forward to visit again and try out all the places that I never knew existed, especially the Japanese restaurants you recommended!
Love roti prata extremely very much. I used to came wif my mum to visit the clinic beauty World around there. After she passed away,I missed her and the place .
My house overlooks the hill and my favourite sight is the misty hill in the morning :) monkeys are vicious when there is a baby around tho! Hahah if you have time you should visit the Singapore quarry, it’s next door behind rail mall and I love it more than the hindhede one :D
You could try walking from rifle range road to macritchie reservoir via the nature reserve( check Nparks map) or walk down the whole length of the rail corridor southwards and you can visit many HDB estates along the way but best to do it on a bike.
Brilliantly done. A serious on the different neighbourhoods is always a good idea. I know Bukit Timah is not your first, and I'm really hoping it's not your last neighbourhood to check out. Please carry on your journey!
Love your channel! A very interesting mix of food reviews and lifestyle in Singapore! Thanks for bring us around sg with your interesting vids. I laughed at the chicken asking you to eat boon tong kee 🤣
I live in this area and is very familiar. You have randomly visited some interesting places but also missed many. Should come again and go deeper into each place to explore more. If you go further North , its Bukit Panjang area and further South is the heart of Bukit Timah residential area...many many places to explore here.

This is where my secondary school(Toh Tuck Secondary School) used to be. The Hawker center has transformed many times and the Famous Chai Tao Kuay used to be facing the big carpark next to the main road in the past. Too many great food in this hawker center, Satay Bee Hoon, NgoHiong Bee Hoon, Nyonya Chendol, traditional Soy Bean(Only in the morning) and Try out a fruitdrink stall that sells Bua Long Long drink. Will be very interesting..
This is a well taken video with the wifey as your walking/eating partner and videographer. Maybe one fine day she'll decide to appear on screen that will be a special event haha! I've been to these areas before but it feels different through the lens. Thank you for sharing.
Yesss!! Glad you had all my fav eats in the area! But there's still so much that you missed! Fun fact about beauty world! It used to be the Orchard Rd of Singapore in the 80s! And way before that during the Japanese Occupation, it was an amusement park! The bridge that is connected to Beauty World Centre also leads to the future treetop walk. Good reason to come back and explore when it opens 😁 If you go up to Blk 9 Toh Yi Drive, you'll be able to see the whole view of Bukit Timah Hill! 👍👍

Ghib you missed the chili (30c per saucer) which pack a punch but so flavourful too. Do revisit Top1 and order with chili. Their Tom Yam soup noodle is also very unique (not the Thai style Tom Yam).
Ahh… did you check out Carpenter & Cook and Kim’s Korean Restaurant? The former, if I recall correctly, is a cafe that also makes and sells the furniture in it. The latter serves really good Korean food-I’d recommend visiting in a group of four to really try a variety of their food.
It doesn't matter where it lands. Its Singapore. I even cycled the entire small island by myself. It's not like neighbouring countries like Malaysia or Indonesia 😅
Ai ya, u missed so many good food just behind you ... From this temple just 5 minutes walk, you cross Jalan Jurong Kechil, you'll see old shop houses. URA wanted to demolish them but Dr Cheong from Cheong clinic produced documented evidence that those shop houses were used as comfort homes for the Japanese troops with comfort women checking in for work with their names. Do it again!
Hi great videos in Singapore and in Europe. What would help more elderly or disabled if you gave approximate distances you walk. It's hard to tell. Even a 2 second flash of a ramp or a pavement would help. Very few videos show these things. Entrances to buildings can put people from planning to go in. Thanks
Hmm, I wonder why you and your wife didn't go to Bukit Timah Plaza. Anyways, Bt. Timah has many hidden gems. If you had travelled a little further, Dairy Farm Nature Park is also rather nice.
