Only reason I rented the ps1 version of this game was because I saw an ad for it on the movies vhs…except the ad only used footage from the n64 version lol

I highly recommend playing the N64 version if you haven't. It's night and day.

This game deserves more appreciation. It's my favorite bond shooter, with excellent pacing. Yes, it even surpasses Goldeneye slightly.

I agree, I'm still baffled that this one is not more popular and revered.

Nintendo did allow gambling in their games. I mean they had games like Caesars' Palace on the SNES and Casino Kid on NES. The casino level in TWINE on N64 may have been omitted because of space limitations. People who had the N64 version weren't missing much.

The PS1 version has bond in a “tuxedo” the whole game. The n64 version has bond in different outfits.

I don't remember exactly every outfit change but I do remember he uses the snow outfit in Cold Reception and the blue shirt in the last mission

Im glad that i grew up with the N64 version than the PS1 version. It's also more realistic as the guns each have a distinct reloading mechanic **and** a secondary function. Having the ability to freely add a silencer to your PPK is probably one of the best game changers to the early 2000s shooters. As well as the tonnage of unlockable multiplayer content all packed into a n64 cartridge was impressive.

The PS1 version had terrible controls but irs more playable on emulator with a mouse injector so you can use mouse snd keyboard you can also do this with the N64 version. The N64 version is 10X better.

World is Not Enough N64 also had a better multiplayer then Goldeneye with a lot of new options and even AI Bots for multiplayer.
I think a lot of people look past that because Perfect Dark on N64 just did everything it did even far better.

Im only just now playing Perfect Dark and Im wowed. It's such a great game, polishes almost every issue I had with Goldeneye and TWINE

Yeah the devs really takes advantage of the N64's strong points from the extremely fast loading due to the cartdriges and larger draw distance to the more advanced lighting and anti aliasing that it could do.
While ps1 focused on having access to more memory on the disc they could fit actual video files to play for cutscenes while struggling with the game with the low draw distance of ps1 and slow loading times. Sadly this comparison just shows the bad shortcomings of the ps1 console and the strong points of the N64 console.

I don't think the ps1 version is bad at all. What really helps it that you can fully customize the controls. Plays much better this way.

N64 ports were usually much better than the PS1 versions. I don't remember a single game that was better on the PS1. Yes, the PS1 had CGI (that look awful nowadays) and better music, but in terms of content and how the games played, the N64 versions of games were usually larger (with more content) and played better because the N64 could handle 3D graphics much better than the PS1.
And no, I'm not a N64 fanboy. I skipped Perfect Dark back in the days. Got hyped seeing it on the Switch. Tried to play it now and... it's awful. I hate Perfect Dark now. Maybe I just can't stand 90's level design now, with the same looking corridors everywhere and you walking around not knowing what to do because the game is vague about everything. I don't have patience for that kind of thing anymore.

    • @patyos2

The main thing every PS1 port has over N64 is having Full Video cutscenes and more voice acting due to the Discs having more memory while the N64 has faster loading and low memory due to the cartdriges. For example look at Toy Story 2 on PS1 vs N64 the N64 cutscenes are just screenshot pictures from the movie with Text over it while the PS1 version plays every single cutscene video from the movie.
For the gameplay obviously the N64 was better due to being able to load more objects ingame at a time and having longer draw distance

I also started playing Perfect Dark now that it hit NSO and I must say that I don't entirely agree. I'm finding myself enjoying it a lot more than other shooters from the era, and I think Rare fixed almost every issue I had with Goldeneye.

Search youtube for "How to Re-Map Switch Pro Controls for Perfect Dark" guides.
The fun thing about the switch emulator is you can change switch button mappings and use the ingame controller style settings to make it use both control sticks for camera and movement like modern FPS games. I did that for both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. To use both sticks in perfect dark its control style 1.4 ingame then you need use the Switch Button mapping to swap around the sticks.

It is absolutely not on par with Goldeneye. The AI is ridiculously dumb, the so-called "slapping" music is very bland and blase. While it may be true, to an extent, that The World is Not Enough lends itself better to a video game because of its locales... The movie is also immensely boring, and that doesn't help with its popularity. It's just not a particularly engaging film. Tommorow Never Dies has the misfortuna of being the immediate followup to Goldeneye, and being butchered to Hell in the edit, but it frankly offers far more interesting environments for a game to make use of.
The World Is Not Enough is a fine game on the N64. It's mostly well made.. But its just sort of there. It doesn't really stand out as amazing.
