You save my day in solving the problem #2, specifically on how to use the matte to hide something behind the orb

    FIRST!
Also, I literally searched for this the day your teaser came out because I needed this exact thing for a shot I've been working on for the last 2 weeks for a TV show. It features Saturn from the surface of Titan, and CC Sphere was not cutting it. Suuuuch amazing timing. Many. many thanks!

That is good timing. Hope your deadlines didn’t get messed up waiting all week for the tutorial. If you (or anyone) needs to see a tut before it’s published p, just drop me a line on the teaser.

An excellent tutorial and easy to follow.
Only one issue is having completed the tutorial, I want to move Saturn in the comp so I can add more planets.
However the rings don't follow Saturn. I've tried parenting the rings position to the VC orb position, but Saturn moves quicker.
    How can this be resolved?

    I will look into this...

    • @ShiveringCactus

That’s a really good point. Oops, never even occurred to me. I suppose you could use C4D Lite instead of Orb, (see my tutorial on Makin’ Neptune). Let me know if you figure this out and I’ll try too.

    Aaaannnd...second.
OK, after using this, it was great, yet frustrating. Flying the camera around trying to find the right angle is ... not fun. I think I'm experiencing the the frustration that comes from fighting AEs 3D tools. Being able to control the camera and find an "angle" for the shot using real-world camera conventions would be great. Distance in [not arbitrary] units, lens/zoom in focal length so I can play with wide angle distortion versus distance. Rotating orb around the way you can rotate the earth in Google Earth...Great tutorial, great technique...it worked, but the problem is AE.

    • @ShiveringCactus
      @ShiveringCactus  5 лет назад

Yeah AE’s camera is definitely ‘interesting’

It's a little hard to tell without seeing your project, but you want the Ring layer to have Accept Lights off, but Accept Shadows on.

Here’s a couple of things to try and if they don’t work, you can find my email in the About: for business section:
      1) check your light is set to cast shadows
      2) check the orientation of the shadow caster is pointing at the light’s position and not anything else
      3) set the rings comp directly underneath planet matte and set the track matte.
