Nikon user here. My issue was never with the Godox ttl system but lately was disappointed with the new X3 trigger in that it doesn’t have an instant on/off switch which was great to judge the ambient exposure when off and then give auto viewfinder exposure when on. This was solved in my case by setting a function button to switch on/off auto viewfinder brightness (d8) if I’m not mistaken on Nikon menu. So now I push the function button once for getting the ambient exposure and push once again to get auto viewfinder display. Solved!
Have my Z9 and Z8 set up the same to “ disconnect” the v1pro( or any other flash) when I want to take ambient photo. Works great. Looking forward to the V100, the V1 pro has performed well. I was happy with the V1 but the pro performs better. Hardly ever use the SB5000
@Ronlbarra On my Z9 I went to the CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU, then to “f” CONTROLS, then to “f2” CUSTOM CONTROLS SHOOTING; I then chose an easy to reach Fn2 button and set it to VIEW MODE(photo Lv). That’s it! Now when my Godox trigger is on I can switch between auto brightness and ambient exposure simulation on my viewfinder/display with this function button without having to switch on and off the trigger.
Hello. In my case I use the enable/disable flash setting, so while I push the central joystick button I can see ambient light. If I release the button, then the viewfinder returns to the 'flash mode'. I find it more convenient for me. It is a pity that the X3 does not have a quick off button.
Another good one John! I have a couple of godox flashes. Unfortunately, my older 685 does not work on camera (z6ii). When I need on camera, I use a Nikon flash. Stunning model once again! 🇨🇦
Very impressive... always amazed at what you do with a single light and a couple of reflectors. Would love to see a post on how to update the firmware for the Godox gear. Seems challenging.
Great to see TTL improved. I recently switched to profoto on my sony because of the poor godox ttl - Would you say the profoto is still superior? I prefer the radio system for godox and how it works I think
You're costing me money again, John. I've never had any success with Godox TTL on my Sony cameras. This really is great news. Time to upgrade the V1 for sure. Thanks, John.
Sticking with Sony flashes, but this was a good flash lesson. You can change the light by moving it in addition to changing the intensity. Thank you for another great video
Great video, as usual. Now have you done a studio tour? May be before and after or just record the process of getting it built as you go. If that make sense.
It's a shame you didn't have a Canon camera to test, too. With Canon R-series mirrorless, it's odd. Godox flashes (V860ii, V1, V1 Pro and AD200 Pro) work perfectly in TTL or HSS, but not both together. So indoor/studio shooting is fine with TTL, but outdoors using TTL + HSS tends to overexpose everything (fires at full power every shot). There are 2 exceptions, the RP and the R5 (presumably R5ii as well). There were special Godox firmware updates they and work perfectly, even with TTL + HSS together and even multiple lights. There were 2 special Godox firmware updates to work with the EOS R and it still doesn't work! Here's a tip for you. Get familiar with TCM. In the X3 settings you turn it on. Now this is what haopens: Use a grey card, if you have one... Take a shot with TTL filling the frame with your grey card or model's face, so the flash is metered off her. If you get a good exposure (you definitely will shooting a grey card) then simply switch to manual mode. Enjoy your shoot! TCM (TTL Convert to Manual) sets the flash to Manuel mode with exposure set at the power output it just used in TTL. In other words, at correct power output. Repeat steps 1 & 2 every time you move the lights or change location. Edit: I forgot to mention, Godox TTL + HSS works fine on Canon M-series cameras and DSLRs.
Thank you. I personally shoot in manual 90% of the time but these videos are for those looking for a flash that works in TTL. But these videos TCM feature is a great tip for those who need it. Much appreciate your input, information and tip. Please continue to share your thoughts.
@cooloox , I struggle with exact the same problem for my outdoor portraits. HSS combined with TTL on Canon Mirrorless just don't work. I tried it with all the Godox transmitters (not the latest X3) , with flash on camera, with an extension cable and nothing worked with the entire Godox speedlight series. Indoor, the TTL works fine (as long as you don't need HSS)
Amazing Photos!!! When I shoot with the beige paper the skin tone changes a lot.. But I have a small space. Do you think the vflats would help with this problem? The background cloths? what system are you using? More cheap than to have several seamless rolls? Thanks
Nice! Thanks for this video, actually, I wanted to buy the Godox AD100pro, and now that the V100 is around here, your content made me think if the AD100 would be the option I should choose, what do you think? I own a V1 for Sony and a V1 for Canon and would like to obtain the AD100 pro to complement the V1. But then the V100 was released and I am on hold. Wait for your opinion. Thanks!
Assuming that the TTL Sony issue is a software problem, like I said... assuming, why not a firmware update the rest of the TTL line flashs? Ad200, AD100, etc etc
When you drop the iso your shutter speed went from 1/200 to 1/250, depending on your camera that makes the flash go into HSS mode which requires a lot more power and TTL will struggle, are you sure it wasn’t in HSS? Great video btw.
The point of the video was to see if TTL works on this particular flash / remote combo. Shooting in manual would not show if it worked. All flashes work just fine in manual mode.
Wow...I can never get my Godox flashes to play nice with my SL3 or SL2-S with the X3 Nano or X-Pro II. Whenever I shoot with the Godox flashes, it is as if I am doing a flash bracketing. It is over, over, under, OK, over, Ok, under, etc. Sigh! Tried it on the Q3 43 and it is the same thing. The TTL is not consistent as compared to the Profoto flashes. Noticed the TTL doesn't work well with your Q2 either. Maybe Leica needs to update their firmware.
Great work! Please do a test with Just the “updated x3 Trigger” and 100pro. Just to be sure the TTL fix was applied to the trigger as well and not just the new v100 Flash. Thank you.
@dmitryp939 Can you explain? Are you saying the X3 only works with 3rd party lenses, or the TTL? I currently have the X3 and the V1 Pro....not at all thrilled with the TTL metering and was hoping this new V1 might fix it.
@@occipitalexposure5059 just try Tamron or Viltrox or etc. I've just tested it with 6 lenses and 5 different godox TTL flashes (and 3 triggers). V100 doesn't change anything, the problem is in trigger-camera protocol
Good review I was looking into upgrade my Flashpoint version of the V1. I'm wondering since the V100 is a 100 watts will the AD100 will be discontinued or get a pump in power along with updating the interfaces on their strobes.
I highly doubt that. They share the same power output but the V1 is still meant for on camera. The AD100 is still their smallest most powerful off camera monolight. If anything they will probably refresh the 100 like the 200 and 600.
I think there is definitely room for both of these flashes. Depends on the form factor that you like. But I will be keeping both the AD100 and the V 100.
John - what's the V100? I have the V1 and it's great on TTL for my Nikons, but any improvement would be great. I jumped online, but seems at my camera store here in Australia, all I could find is the new V1 Pro. Couldn't find anything on the V100? Is it a new light out in Canada. Is it similar to the V1 Pro?
I do not, I haven’t had the chance to use the X3 or any GodoxFlash on a Lumix camera. I am thinking it may be somewhat decent because Leica and Panasonic are so closely tied
@@kaskoPhotoVery unlikely. They fixed 2 Canon cameras (years ago!) and were never able to fix the rest (they told me this in emails). Really odd. They've moved on since then and don't seem interested in fixing older models.
Is the V100 already released? I thought it was releasing end of January. It shows the latest X3 trigger firmware as v1.15 that's dated Sept. 2024 so the TTL improvement must be from the flash (shrugs)
Yes, that was done around 10 years ago and it was just a scare tactic. Had to weight then and definitely has no weight now. And just to be clear, it was presented to the distributors not to the court in an effort to scare them from distributing the flash.
why does everything need a touch screen these days? the way I see it, the power can go up or it can go down, just put up and down buttons on it and be done with it lol
Hi John, best wishes for you and family 2025. Big Thank you for taking the time to share your views on the speed lights, I really learn new things.
I absolutely dont think this was a long video and it actually went in depth with real world experience with the product. 💪🏿
Thank you. I appreciate your feedback.
Beautiful images of a beautiful model.
Many thanks!

Thank you so much. Hope I can keep you here. Much appreciated
Thanks for being so fast on reviewing it. I think that manual settings would do better for you anyway.
I almost always shoot manual but having a flash TTL that works is handy in some situations.
Another good one John! I have a couple of godox flashes. Unfortunately, my older 685 does not work on camera (z6ii). When I need on camera, I use a Nikon flash. Stunning model once again! 🇨🇦

It's not too bad, I can try to film one at some point.
Great to see TTL improved. I recently switched to profoto on my sony because of the poor godox ttl - Would you say the profoto is still superior?

You're costing me money again, John. I've never had any success with Godox TTL on my Sony cameras. This really is great news. Time to upgrade the V1 for sure. Thanks, John.
It does work so much better than it did before, it is definitely not perfect but usable.
The godox V1 is different from this flash (Godox V100) the V100 is a 100w flash per/1 sec the V1 is a 76w per/1sec flash.
Great images. I have the X3 for my canon R7 and never had an issue with my godox lights in TTL or HHS, maybe a Sony thing not sure
Nikon folks also say that they don’t have an issue (most of them) with the X3
Sticking with Sony flashes, but this was a good flash lesson. You can change the light by moving it in addition to changing the intensity. Thank you for another great video
Very welcome!
Patiently waiting for the Panasonic version to release! But excited to pair this up with my 200’s. Great kit on the go!
That will be a great kit. I like having a regular Speedlight form factor for when I just need an on camera flash
@n8-creates what trigger are you using with your panasonics and 200s? Are you having the shutter delay issues in TTL?
Great video, as usual. Now have you done a studio tour? May be before and after or just record the process of getting it built as you go. If that make sense.
Honestly, the videos that I’m showing you can be considered the studio tour. 😂 it really is a small space.
good to know. maybe they can fix that Lock Screen issue in a firmware update. Timeless model for sure
I hope they can, it would be really convenient having it right on the screen

It depends on your environment but I swear by them. Being able to control the light this much, even with a single strobe really helps.
Good review well done. 👍 I have a question how does this flash works with the Leica SL & S3? Cheers! 🥃

I agree. I’m not sure why this performance can’t be pushed through to the rest of the line.
Nice job man
Did you put the flash to +1 when you put the soft box ?
I did not. Left it at! O compensation
Nikon z9 shooter her .My godox 860 iii always shoots over exposed by one and third shops when 8 ft or closer to subject.
That was my issue - different distances gave different results. This seems to fix these issues
Another great video John! Just one question: when you lock it on the V100, can you still change the settings on the remote X3?
Yes. For me it’s just so convenient to make changes right on the flash when I’m shooting handheld. I mean, my hand is there anyway…
When you drop the iso your shutter speed went from 1/200 to 1/250, depending on your camera that makes the flash go into HSS mode which requires a lot more power and TTL will struggle, are you sure it wasn’t in HSS? Great video btw.
Yes. I have HSS off
@ on my camera it can’t go to 1/250s without enabling it so that’s why I wondered 😄
The lock should be a switch
I like that idea even better
Why to use ttl in a first place? Isn't it predictable enough in a studio environment to keep it manual?
The point of the video was to see if TTL works on this particular flash / remote combo. Shooting in manual would not show if it worked. All flashes work just fine in manual mode.
