I went to the movie "Cruising" as a junior in high school (1980) because of this song being part of the soundtrack without knowing anything other than the director had made "The Exorcist". It was a bewildering experience to put it mildly. "Not that there's anything wrong with that". 🎉
All he sees are death masked stars The lion's world is cold and sharp All he wants is much too far So he stalks the roads of token cars- He snarls at winds that mean no harm And takes the thorns in perfect form A broken ideal rides inside the torture Lion's denim hide I want the lion's share Gather up the broken chairs Feed my mind unholy tests Do me in I need to rest He sleeps when nothing's in the air Eats the scraps of some that care He strains the right to overbear Secrest hidden in the liar- Pauses long enough to dream Nightmares push the glowing scream His shadowed eyes show the toll Something only lions know

david moon hey man if I may ask how was Darby as a person? Just concerned about his drugs and shows or was he a deep thinker as his songs would suggest ?
Crazy this wasn't on G.I. I suppose it wasn't written yet, but It's sound is so consistent with all of the material on that album. R.I.P Darby Crash and Lorna Doom
Fantastic and I agree with the comment below Cruising has kept this song alive and the punk rock community has kept this band alive due to their influence on bands like Rancid and NOFX. You can hear the influence of the Sex Pistols in Germs and I can hear Germs in early Bad Religion songs such as We're only gonna die.
The genre isn't "ruined" just because there's this mainstream bullshit that people pretend is punk doesn't mean that real punk went away. There's still all kinds of DIY bands ranging from Powerviolence acts like Vivisick to folk punk bands like This Bike Is A Pipebomb that stay true to the original punk ethos of thinking for yourself and living your life for yourself. There's always going to be a clear distinction between true punk and poser bullshit.
Kimberly Munsey, your xxx ❤ is in the RIOT place(!), and she will be sorely missed, Lorna Doom co-wrote another 👍 GERMS track called "NOW I HEAR 👂 THE LAUGHTER"; not this one. Nevertheless THE 🔄GERMS🔄RULE,... & so do you.
There we go (in 2 parts) : All he sees are death masked stars The lion's world is cold and sharp All he wants is much too far So he stalks thw roads of token cars- He snarls at winds that mean no harm And takes the thorns in perfect form A broken ideal rides inside the torture lion's denim hide I want the lion's share Gather up the broken chairs Feed my mind unholy tests Do me in I need to rest He sleeps when nothing's in the air Eats the scraps of some that care
Even though Darby Crash was racist and somewhat of an egotistical kinda guy, he had an amaziong onstage presecne and he was of course an amazing writer who wasn't afraid to use "Big words" and be very intelligent.
@TV DiNn£rs R CrAp Hey, Hi. I wrote this comment when I was like 15 or 16, Some Punks would use slurs for the shock factor as it was en vogue at the time. Darby definitely said racial slurs to rile people up. you can find more evidence of this in some interviews. In "The Decline of Western Civilization" Documentary there are a few instances of him blatantly using slurs but to say there is hate behind them is dubious. Either way not a good look.
@annexphear That's okay dude, I know what you meant. Darby was a falling down trainwreck demonstration of why heroin (and speed and beer and cutting yourself and holocaust...) is bad for you. If he hadn't been though, everyone would be wearing blue circle Ts and desperate for a cigarette burn now. Sucks, doesn't it? Especially when people think you're hating on a band just because you prefer one that was every bit as influential, without any of their polish. Rock the vinyl!
uhm dunno wtf your on but pat has a wife and kids? if you dont believe me do some research or watch the end of the foo fighters documentary called "back and forth" it shows pat with his wife and child
If you don't like the Germs because Darby didn't try to sing well then you don't understand the music at all. It wasn't supposed to sound pretty and clean, it was supposed to be an aggressive, tipsy, and rough sound and they did just that. Whether you can listen to it and enjoy it something else, of course.
@annexphear don't talk shit about the Clash and The Ramones. The Germs were good. They were one of the first hardcore bands, but the Ramones and The Clash brought punk to the mainstream. If it wasn't for them, The Germs wouldn't be the Germs.
@stevemangler1 right .. thats the question.. you have these awsome bands with catchy tunes and who can whip up crowds of people and its something amazing to be apart of ... but then you have your anarcho-punk bands who all kind of believe that the labels and seperation between the classes of subcultures is a distraction from the system to take keep us being united. So kids who listened to devo in the 80s got beat up on by guys who drove cameros and listened to motorhead ..
I first heard this on the film Cruising. A brilliant film and a brilliant song.
I love that scary as hell movie.
Wow, I was 16 when I saw that movie and only because I was obsessed with punk as a suburban Midwest bar mitzvah boy.

Heard in "Cruising", in some infamous sequence ! Yeah ..... this one rocks !!!!
The gay Leather boy Crime movie?!
Was “Cruising” for this song!!!
xoxo The Clarences
that blue circle is sweet
All he sees are death masked stars
The lion's world is cold and sharp
All he wants is much too far
So he stalks the roads of token cars-
He snarls at winds that mean no harm
And takes the thorns in perfect form
A broken ideal rides inside the torture
Lion's denim hide
I want the lion's share
Gather up the broken chairs
Feed my mind unholy tests
Do me in I need to rest
He sleeps when nothing's in the air
Eats the scraps of some that care
He strains the right to overbear
Secrest hidden in the liar-
Pauses long enough to dream
Nightmares push the glowing scream
His shadowed eyes show the toll
Something only lions know
We know the lyrics...
@@jonasmellberg3559 😅😂😂
One of my top 3 Germs songs
My favourite germs song! Ty for the upload.
I love this song in Cruising....
I heard this song in the movie "Cruising"
This was played in the murder peepshow scene in 'Cruising.' I wasn't aware they performed other songs for that movie, but wasn't included.
(...)
He strains the right to overbear
Secrets hidden in the liar-
Pauses long enough to dream
Nightmares push the glowing scream
His shadowed eyes show the toll
Something only lions know
I KNEW THESE KIDS. DARBY LOVED MY ASTHMA MEDS, AND, ALWAYS LET ME INTO SHOWS...AS LONG AS I HAD MY BELLADONNA.
david moon hey man if I may ask how was Darby as a person? Just concerned about his drugs and shows or was he a deep thinker as his songs would suggest ?
If Darby Crash was still around, the Germs would rule the fucking world!
BRAVO HEROIN HENRY; GREETINGS FROM COCKTAIL JOE
Pure Poetry.
I'm about to get in my time machine and go to one of their shows , anyone wanna tag along? Who has beer money :)
I remeber this crazy tune from the movie Cruising.

That's impressive. He probably liked your asthma medicine cause he used to lay on his stomach and sing. Get it?
Thank god for the movie "Cruising" Or this song would have never existed. the last 6 songs the Germs did were Legendary and Amazing!
from the coolest soundtrack ever
Cruising
had two copies of those..great scores from the bins of those that were clueless.
For a bruisin!
Darby had such a beautiful mind, a shame that he felt the need to go solo... Truly sad that he had to end it
he was truly one of a kind
The Germs were /are great!
Are!!!
better than ABBA
That's not really fair dude
hahahaha;-)
That's not hard to do
Like them both.
Maybe a little...........
RIP DARBY RIP LORNA
All this movie needed was a Dictators poster on the wall.
peace and love people! among yourselves! keep yourselves real and respected
Crazy this wasn't on G.I. I suppose it wasn't written yet, but It's sound is so consistent with all of the material on that album. R.I.P Darby Crash and Lorna Doom

punk is not an attitude. it is not a look. it is not a smell. it is a brand of underpants which can only be procured at a small shop in southeast asia

Who gives a shit about "punk"? Have you actually read the lyrics to this song? They are fuckin awesome!
I breathe for boy

The Slave maybe? It starts with some odd Asian sounding riff, then explodes.
damn i feel like the biggest jackass since my comment is still at the top of this video..
@jahofwah The Engineer sucked on the Soundtrack but at least we got some killer Germs songs. completely Agree 100%
Second to none.

@TheBlackOnWhiteCrime "I've tried to make things racist but I can't, I happy just to watch them all and laugh"
-Greg Graffin
I just had to paraphrase it.
I got money for pot too if that your thing! ha
Anybody know the lyrics?
My Gay uncle had a wife and kids too. Whatever. Pats cool.
