  • RTÉ News announces the death of one of Ireland's greatest-ever female writers, Edna O'Brien. From Tuamgraney in County Clare, O'Brien was described by the former President of Ireland Mary Robinson as "one of the great creative writers of her generation".

    Incredible writer. Now, if Ireland would only have given a fraction of this kind of praise and acknowledgment to Eevan Boland.

    She will join her mother in the. beautiful historic holy island surrounded by the water of Lough Derg where the Shannon waters flows .RIP.
