Series Description: Welcome to the Complete Beginner Whittling Lessons Series! This series is intended for people who are completely new to whittling and looking for advice on how to get started. It starts with a series of four videos about what equipment and materials are needed for whittling and then there will be a series of projects that will teach the basics of whittling while completing specific projects.
Note that this series focuses on what I would call hobby whittling using dedicated whittling knives and wood that are specifically designed for whittling as a hobby. We will not focus on found wood carving, knives that are not specifically dedicated to whittling, spoon carving, bushcraft or other forms of whittling and woodcarving in this series.

Came across this as I bought a cheap whittling set from Amazon. I kindof enjoyed the hobby, but the knives were kinda dull, then dulled further even quicker so lopping of bigger chunks was nigh impossible - I could only reasonably get shavings. The gloves that came with it, were like the 1st set in the video - I think he understates how annoying the slipperyness is, especially when learning, plus the small shavings were getting caught on the fibres of the glove. By my second 'spoon' it had gotten out of hand (pun unintended), and is really tricky to clean off. So yeah - I should've spent a bit extra on knives with a better reputation, and bought gloves separately.

I really like the DEX FIT Level 5 Cut Resistant Gloves Cru553. I found that woven gloves filled with wood shavings that would poke my hands and give me splinters.

Surprised knives are not made with oversized handles and encourage carvers to trim for their own hands and all carvers should be deleted to be able to fit their own knives. I'm building my own become of the fitting issue. I got a beaver and they are as you saying 💯 percent to thick and hold a fairly good blade that i hope I've find something better. Flex Cut will be my second choice and I'm hearing much as you saying but that handle looks short for sometimes we hold knives for specific cuts and expect to have problems for a few cuts..
That Drake handle looking great and can be trimmed to my fit.But that owner passed so about the qualities of the company is questionable at this time.
    This has helped thanks

Does that Blue Dot glove leave blue residue on the carving? I have one with black dots that leaves an annoying black on everything....

No. I use this glove regularly and I have never had any problem with it leaving marks on the wood.
