My Dad used to force me to watch this when I was about 5 (I’m 37 now!). I’ve had that piece of music at 11:30 in my head for 32 years and heard it again for the first time today, since then!

I believe Roger Limb from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop composed both the title theme and all the incidental music. I've written to them, and unfortunately none of it is available separately.

I travelled on one of the trips behind the Duchess over the Settle-Carlisle on which we stopped at Appleby and she made a couple of runs through. An unforgettable sight and sound.
The references to the problems with the Ribblehead viaduct are interesting particularly as when a proper investigation was carried out the viaduct was found to be in far better condition than had been supposed. Had the line been closed there would have been major problems for the network on many occasions since.

I've only ever seen the Duchess of Hamilton at the National Rail Museum, in her streamline casing.
It's something else to see her up-close and not on a TV show.

Wow this takes me back, some of my earliest childhood memories. I had every episode of steam days recorded on VHS as a kid and watched them until the tape wore out. I was 5 years old when this series aired and I’m now 38! Seems like only yesterday.

Nice to hear a Norfolk accent (Kim, the driver). Makes me homesick. Lovely locomotive though

Many thanks for posting. I used to watch a television taping of this all the time as a kid. Although the music in a few places was slightly different. Is this taken from a VHS tape?
