My favourite Summerslam opening match was Seth Rollins vs Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship from Summerslam 2018. It was an amazing match, especially that jumping DDT on the ring apron Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio from Summerslam 2002 came a close second in my opinion.
I'd like to preface this by saying that this is obviously just my opinion on the match, I am not attacking either guy or saying that the match was bad. I just want to give my thoughts on the match since it was mentioned in the video. Once again, just my opinion. Personally, I didn't really enjoy Ziggler vs Rollins. It wasn't bad, just disappointing. You can wrestle at a slower pacing without making it boring. Styles vs Joe was a great example of that. The beginning was obviously slow but it compensated for it by being stiff, then the match slowly built, with each move being more impactful than the last one and conveying the hatred AJ had for Joe while the latter was just showing his ruthlessness. Rollins vs Ziggler was missing something. It started slow, obviously, but it never really sped up. There were spots where it got hotter (e.g. Inverted Superplex into Lifting Inverted DDT) but then we would get a near fall and it would go right back to the same slower pacing. There was never a sense of progression, it was just rest spots, big spot, near fall, rest spot. I wouldn't want them to get up right after a big move, but your match needs to feel like it builds gradually, not just keeping the same pace until you reach the finish and feel like speeding up. Nothing built to another spot, they were just getting pulled out for the sake of popping the crowd. It only really reached a higher gear during Rollins' trademark finish where the last 2 or 3 minutes are really fast paced to make everything feel chaotic. That was cool and especially surprising for me because I expected Ziggler to win to set up McIntyre's run with the IC title. But that's the thing, those last minutes didn't feel like they were going faster because the pacing had build to that point throughout the match, it just felt like at one point they said "ok, this is the point where we step it up".
Im noticing a trend... theres one big major difference before you even delve into whos on the channels and how charismatic and quality the staff are... the biggest difference between cultaholic and whatculture is cultaholic is all about the positives and having fun then whatculture is all about negativity and mistakes and anger and frustration (bar simon and sometimes adam clery). Doesnt make for nice watching whereas cultaholic is always enjoyable, always entertaining, positive as well. Light heartedness is key in this i think
If Cultaholic could go ahead and NOT spoil the finishes of most matches in their lists, that would be great. I've found matches to be way more exciting and enjoyable when I don't know what's going to happen.
What are you talking about ? Piper was nowhere near the commentary desk at Summerslam 1989 heck you didn't even see him until the Intercontinental title match . On commentary were Jesse Ventura and Tony Schiavone , this was also the first pay per view to not feature Gorilla Monsoon .
When will Cultahloic (and all UK fans for that matter) accept that Bulldog was kind've shite, and the only reason he had any good matches was by being carried by much superior wrestlers like Bret, Owen, and Dynamite.
You know what’s the best opening act? That great intro music followed by “JOIN US” I love it!
Ross's intros are the best opening act.
"Stiff walls of Jericho" wasn't that the lion tamer
I appreciate that cultaholic makes lists snd vids current with time not pre recorded 4 months ago and not updated
XeroWon *And.
Ripply Creature, you poor soul, why did you post this comment?
Unlike *NAME REDACTED*
So Dolph and Rey are the Kings of Summerslam openers .... Is anyone honestly surprised lol I wouldn't be and clearly agree
So basically if you want to open Summer Slam, let Ziggler do it.
That's the lesson I took from this :D
or rey, or if possible, ziggler vs rey ;)
Its crazy how talented of a dude Dolph really is....
also, it should involve ic title
And Seth
"Went home happy"
In the opening match of the night
FilipJPhry lol
That a heel won....
Cultalogic
I’ll see myself out
Kid vs hakushi was an awesome match...years ahead of its time
Absolutely that match would fit well with today's wrestling, my earliest memory of wrestling
That Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle had me marking out of my freaking mind.
You know that feeling when the opening match is better then the main event?
So Summerslam 2018?
And Wrestlemania 2018
@@liammcevoy3212 And Majority of WCW PPVs in It's dying years.
And almost every TNA ppv
Angle vs Mysterio is probably the match you should show to get someone into wrestling
Both can mate.
*before the video* I swear to God if Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio isn't number 1 or 2, I'm outta here.
Go Blue
This year has taught me, if you want a good opener, have Ziggler or Rollins involved
Lion Tamer, Adam. Not a stiff Walls of Jericho. Lion Tamer.
Mick Foley really helped get hhh and Orton big time back then
Before I watch, Kurt Angle VS Rey Mysterio will be number 1
My favourite opener is rey mysterio vs kurt angle
2 best dream matches Guerrero vs Michaels and pacciti vs lesnar with pacciti going over by the finger poke of doom
My favourite Summerslam opening match was Seth Rollins vs Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship from Summerslam 2018.

Dean Freakin Ambrose I know. It’s just a bad habit of mine with RUclips comments lol
why this spooky music in the introduction tho???
When ever i have to wipe the taste of a crap whatculture video (except when miller is doing the vid) cultaholic SAVES THE DAY!!! Keep up the work lads
Sam driver does not get enough credit for how great of an editor he is
Mankind vs HHH cage match in 97 is my fave.
Mankind became Dude Love (not Mick Foley) at the end of his cage match with Triple H, which was signified by the big heart "tattoo" on his chest.
I think Seth called it Paroxysm while he was on the indies
Roppongi 3K, always good openers
I really want to see you guys run out of things to make top 10 list about😂
Bulldogs vs Rougeaus from 1988 and Hart Foundation vs. Brain Busters from 1989 two of the best opening tags of all time let alone summerslam.
These lists are getting really granular.
Fraser needs a list!!!
imo
Damn good vid...as usual.
Ziggler & Mysterio really are all that good.
imo

Rey Mysterio and Dolph Ziggler: Kings of The SummerSlam Opening Match.
Ziggler literally had so many amazing 5 star opening matches that should've been the main event or co main event
Why i love list of which i already know who or what is no 1 and watch just to confirm

Bro! I swear to god I thought the thumbnail was AJ styles and Jinder
What
Dolph Ziggler is truly a workhorse and this tells it
If Cultaholic could go ahead and NOT spoil the finishes of most matches in their lists, that would be great. I've found matches to be way more exciting and enjoyable when I don't know what's going to happen.
Lifthil then don’t watch a post about best matches? I mean if your expecting them not to talk about the finish then that’s on you
Dolph Ziggler is king of the curtain jerkers
Having started the video yet but Rey vs Kurt Summerslam 02 has to be in the top 3

6:50 I'm pretty sure that's a Lion Tamer, not a Walls of Jericho. Otherwise that's the sharpest pulled Walls ever.

Do best kick off matches
I say Owen v Bret is the best opener by far. Atleast it is if you watch from that match onwards
Ziggler vs Miz from 2014 should be on here
Good video
Chavo wasn't wrong.
For me opening PPV matches are guilty plesures
Should there be an episode of straight to hell out today?

Fuck you
Seth vs Dolph was okay not great.
Ziggler, Rollins was a nothing match until the go home sequence. Has no business on this list, especially at #3.

That candy cane singlet is horrible

So Seth Rollins is on this list but Jeff Hardy vs. M.V.P in SummerSlam 2008 isn't...SMDH
Why wouldn't Seth Rollins be on the list?
@@dylanogg347 he's shit
Nah man, he rocks.
@@dylanogg347 he's dog shit
Come on man, what's your beef?
Ziggler is basically good bout machine where as Kenny omega is the best bout machine.
Haven't watched it but if Rey Mysterio vs Kurt angle SummerSlam 2002 isn't on here I'm unsubbing
adam you are awesome man. good work.
dolph should not be opening summerslams at this point in his career, especially against Rollins but here we are

When everyone remembers that in the late 90s, the British Bulldog wore jeans when wrestling.
Which is never!
Nope he could wrestle his AJPW stuff is awesome
What a hipster list once again. I bet Pacitti is pretty unbearable in real life.
