    To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.

      @@philorgneopolotin8762 there's a large chasm between your ridiculous statement that I claimed the headphones were unusable vs observing the lack of very basic desirable features at a high price point. These Apple headphones are perfectly usable, but for $550 there's far superior products in all respects except noise cancelation. Try some real headphones, you'll thank me. Maybe the Hifiman Deva Pro BT planars unless you really need closed back with noise cancelation; $330 of wireless bliss. It's mind blowing but they support USB-C, aptx, and LDAC! 😂

    soundqualitiy wise it is probably fair to say, that this thing should be on par - or at least in the same ball park - with anything between 200-400 bucks (as in HD600, Sundaras, m1060c, 6xx, HD560s,Zeus, Phoenix &c).

    Btw Josh... there is an interesting, but kind of hidden feature on the AirPods Pro that you might want to look for on the Max
    The Pro has a certain degree of EQ that is located under Accommodations-headphones. It is under accommodation because it is designed for hearing impairment. As such, it is not a general purpose EQ. But it does allow boosting the high end and adjusting the degree of boost. Interestingly... it is also possible to adjust the volume of the outside sounds in transparency mode in this setting section
    Voices- the voice issue that you mention might also possibly be addressed in the accommodation section by turning in the “voiceEQ”... and setting it to the lowest impact ... worth a try

I have the Bowers & Wilkins PX7, Bose NC700 and B&O H9i and it’s easy to tell that the AirPods Max are in another league as such they sit at the higher price point.
    From my personal experiences owning all mentioned, I can say the AirPods Max are the best I’ve heard. And I completely agree, pass through / transparency mode is outstanding, it’s like hearing everything around without headphones on, you have to hear it to believe it. Great video. 👍

    • @sephondranzer

      Right? I felt like that was the most relevant point of comparison.

    • @raypinparty7052

      Comparison with the massdrop panda is invalid. It lacks one key feature: ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION. Making the panda next to USELESS for on- the-go listening on a plane, subway, crowded malls or other noisy places. On the go listening is the primary use case for the Airpods Pro. For home lostening, you are better off with an open back wired headphone.

    • @grsamael
      @grsamael 3 года назад +27

      @@raypinparty7052 LoL! USELESS? Seriously? Get a grip buddy, passive isolation can work wonders in medium volumes in any kind of commute situation.
      The comparison should be made, 100%.

    • @raypinparty7052
      @raypinparty7052 3 года назад +5

      @@grsamael yup. Seriously. Passive does not work. At medium volume, you are liable to damaging your hearing and there is a good chance someone will punch you for sound leakage. The only passive noise cancellation that works reasonably well are those offered by custom in ear monitors or CIEMs. I speak from experience. So stop insisting on comparing apples and oranges.
      Besides, nobody should invest four hundred bucks on a headphone made by nobodies in the industry, with no customer service and no track record on building hugh quality headphones that would last a long time. Yup. Your Panda belongs to that category. It is a gdamn mass drop. Can you even rely on complete nobodies in the industry to replace a defective Panda, no questions asked? Where do you even send them back? I trust Apple, Sony, Sennheiser and Bose, all of them ESTABLISHED companies.

      @@raypinparty7052 lmfao imagine thinking massdrop isnt an established company in the audio world. Furthermore, yeah the pandas wont work as well as the airpods for isolation, but you must be fucking stupid if you think that that means they cant be used in a fucking subway. People use on-ears on subways lmao.

    Hi josh. Great video. Been watching you for a while because I’m looking for the most spacious and open closed back wireless headphones. I’m between the max, the pandas, and the mobius. Could you recommend one for me? I’m streaming atmos and dts x content from my pc to my iPad using moonlight. The affects I get with my are great but looking for a wider depth in the sound. Thanks man.

    Good review Josh! Although I take issue at 9:50 when you said a main goal of audiophile headphones is to sound like a pair of speakers in front of you, I do not think that is the goal of audiophile headphones, but I suppose its a matter of opinion. Also, on the topic, have you heard of the Smyth A16 Realiser? Oratory said on a post that he could not distinguish if a sound was coming from a speaker or his headphone using the A16. It definitely seems like the kind of tech you would be interested in. Cheers!

    I understand why you picked the Xm4s (still quite the price discrepancy) as a comparison for this one, but i do feel like you could've at least mentioned the Pandas (admittedly, quite the feature discrepancy)

  • @benanderson89
    @benanderson89 2 года назад +1

    I don't think it's good to compare these to the Sony XM4s.The XM4 sound signature is an ugly bass cannon and they sound like first generation beats that were manufactured by Monster; with that in mind you realise why the Max are more expensive. Wouldn't it be better to compare it to something from B&O or Bose?
    Also, the digital crown *does* have feedback; it's audible click. If you can't hear it then restart the headphones; there's a bug in the firmware IIRC that may mute it.

    Thanks for providing the comparisons to audiophile headphones, especially the 6XX. I feel like the Airpods Max is audiophile pricing without audiophile quality in exchange for features I've had available for years on other devices and I never use. The passthrough, for example, sounds like a great technical achievement but it's so easy to just pull of your headset. Most of them seem like technologies built around edge cases.

    I think now that this review is out, you need to do some reviews on wireless earbuds. in terms of market space, most people in 2020 are listening through wireless earbuds and headphones, and wireless earbuds are what we sell the most of by a LONG shot. we sell anywhere from 100-1000+ sets a day. with your back catalog of reviews and your expertise in this type of review I think your subscriber base would also skyrocket.

    This review is looking very professional, good job ! Also great description of the headphones itself. Thanks for it. I would like to ask for advice. I have been using Samsung Galaxy phone with Sony XM4 through LDAC which was great experience, however recently I had to change android for iOS with AAC codec.. which unfortunately decreased sound experience of my XM4 drastically with iOS connection. Then my question is, does it make sense to replace XM4s with Air Pods MAX ? Will ecosystem of apple utilize AAC connection in better way ? similar as Samsung scalable codec ? or is better to buy a player like SONY NW-A105 and keep XM4s for now and in future use potential of the player with some good wired headphones ?

    Transparancy mode is *the* reason why I bought my Airpod Pros. I'm not sure why it's not more popular; it's the difference between being able to use them walking down the street or not.
