  • www.vladtv.com - Inspectah Deck went through an uphill battle to put out his first album, which was delayed after the entire project was lost in a flood at Raekwon's house. He added, "My whole album wasn't what y'all heard as 'Uncontrolled Substance,'" as the Wu-Tang emcee had to start all over again.
During the sit-down Inspectah Deck also detailed his legal issues with Loud Records, which also played a part in his album's delay after the label went "defunct." After realizing that the label wasn't a great fit, Inspectah Deck went through a legal battle to get out of his contract.
Check out his full story in the above clip.

Till this day I think about all those Rza beats we never got to hear because of that flood. I know they had to be insane because Rza was much hungrier then, that original Wu sound.

Uncontrolled Substance is dope, but it's definitely not as good as who Inspectah Deck truly is; he truly is himself on Da Mystery of Chessboxin, Protect Ya Neck, Above the Clouds, Guillotine (Swordz), Triumph, etc. Him saying that the album had a completely different sound than the Uncontrolled Substance we know of today means that the album would have been up there with Liquid Swords and OB4CL. RZA probably produced the majority of the beats on it. Plus, it was supposed to be released at the time the other clan members' solo albums came out. Fuckin depressed.

That's really too bad. But for one, his first album was solid dope and some of my favorite cuts are from that album. Secondly, regardless of anything, Inspectah Deck will always be considered as one of the best rappers lyrically and style wise not just to me but many other people as well. Peace and much respect to Inspectah

Humble, level headed and speaking truth. Arguably dropped the best verse ever on a Wu joint and clowns talking that he ain't all that, please! The production, I feel, has always not been quite up to par on his solo joints BUT the lyrics are top notch....but as MK says "the dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum"....imagine Deck spitting on tracks like The City and CREAM for a full album....that is what he, and we, NEED !!!

How did I not know about this flood and lost album after all these Years? This is so painful to know it will never be heard. RZA should've remade the beats and deck the rhymes, you think they would have been able to somewhat piece it back together.

No classic album, but I say he had the most memorable Wu verses. "life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough" from C.R.E.A.M. and the iconic verse in Triumph.

He had best verse on - protect ya neck, triumph and cream - arguably their three most famous songs. And his verse on careful (click click) is one of my favourite across the whole back catalogue. To me he is one of their best. he’s level with the 5 who had the hit albums, just doesn’t have the album

such a tragedy. Why didnt they just try to recreate some of the lost songs? You could tell Deck still has those songs in his memory. Wu Tang owes the world an entirely RZA produced Deck album.

Deck and baby U deserve so much more then what they got. They are savages on the mic 🎙 they got some of the kraziest bars. If they would’ve got pushed in that 93-97 spot. Platinum no doubt. I’ll bet my soul on that

I always wondered why he didn't drop until 99 instead of 96,or 97 after the Wu Tang Forever album. I thought je had some of the best features on that album. I was waiting for hia album more than the 2nd Meth that was getting promoted after the Clan album.

Decks debut album in 95 would've been fuckin dope. I still think that if both u-god/masta killa released their debut albums in 96' after gfk's ironman, they would be classics as well. Same goes for rza. Bobby digital in stereo woulda been way doper if he recorded/released it in 97' before wutang forever album. The thing is that he was also making music with the gravediggaz as well, which they released 2 albums w/rza in 94' & 97'.

We lost a GEM, we lost a Return 36, Tical, Liquid Swordz, Ironman, Linx etc., imagine Deck over 95 Rza beats... I can't imagine how dope that album was, just bad luck for Deck all alone on releasing that first album.

I think it would've been a more complete album than that though. You listen to him on tracks like "A Better Tomorrow", "C.R.E.A.M.", "Cold World" etc. and he was clearly a thinker and a story-teller. By the time "Uncontrolled Substance" came out Deck had kinda fallen off and RZA didn't do his beats and RZA had fallen off...I think honestly Deck's album could've been amazing. The world wil never know...

Has he or RZA ever talked about what the lost album sounded like? In the early days Deck was the best lyricist IMO. It’s such a shame what happened but he deserves respect for how he handed things and still got a gold record.
