You became one of my favorite hunting channel, always good info and I couldnt be more excited for this upcoming season here in BC! keep the good content coming!
@@CliffGray right on Cliff! For me the 2 eyes open shooting started when I started dove hunting with a shotgun (iron sites). I was having trouble hitting them 1 eye open. With 2 eyes open my dominant eye took over on the target as my left eye kept track of the birds flight. Kinda hard to explain but what a transformation that was. An “eye opening” experience.
In my opinion, I think that the longer you squint, the more likely you are to develop headaches. It may sound stupid, but I bring a patch to cover my left eye while glassing.
@@CliffGray Appreciate that brother! The hunt was successful... now just gearing back up to head out and help my nieces fill their tags. Can't beat this time of year man. Hope your hunts are going great!
GREAT VIDEO! Very informative. Starting from the vehicle to the highest mountain top viewing with spotting scopes, you can tell what's what from a h*ll of a long way off. It saves a ton of hiking just to check an area out. Great tips on long term viewing saving your eyesight for shooting. I especially like the eye patch.
Keep ‘em coming Cliff! I became a great shot when I was a rifle hunter when I became a 2 eyes open shooter. It was a natural transition to archery with both eyes open
Just found your channel and you have a new subscriber. I had to laugh when you pulled out the eye patch because I actually wear one due to a childhood accident, where I lost my right eye. I shoot pistols right handed, but rifle and bows left handed. On the bright side it saves me money since I don't buy binoculars and monocular is cheaper.
@@BoManton Yeah, that was the reason I had always heard. I’ve been using one with a spotting scope since seeing this video, and it makes a big difference. There could have been multiple reasons for using them. Who knows?
Great video Cliff, I prefer to use binoculars. I get motion sickness when looking thru a spotting scope for a long time. Not sure if that is a thing other people experience or if I’m just a panzie or with a weak stomach. With hunting season right around the corner what is on your hunting itinerary this year?
I personally don’t. I don’t have the fatigue issue while looking through a rifle scope… just don’t spend hours using it like I do a spotter. Many folks do shoot with both eyes open, including when using a scope. 👍
The only time I pack a spotter anymore is if I’m day hunting from the truck in an area where there’s timber I’m trying to look through for deer or elk. Or if I was ever lucky enough to draw a sheep tag to see growth rings and such. If I’m backpacking in for deer or elk a spotter isn’t worth it, I can tell if it’s a nice buck and needs a closer look from beyond a mile in good conditions. And likewise a good bull from 3 miles or better with a pair of 15’s. It’s not like I need to be able to tell the difference between a 175 buck and a 180 buck after hiking 4-7 miles from the trailhead I’m going to shoot it anyway.
I like 30x wide angle fixed eyepieces. Makes it so much easier with a much bigger fov. The only ones that compete with a fixed 30x are the meopta 30-60 wide angle and that new zeiss wide angle eyepiece have best of both worlds.
Hell I shoot a bow and rifle both eyes open. When u squint you are fatiguing the eye muscles. I got a leg up though cause my right eye is lazy and legally blind so I have a built in eye patch
Also learn to shoot a rifle with both eyes open…it’ll help with accuracy. If you have a bikini cover for your rifle scope you can use that to cover one eye.
Some of the best hunting content on YT.

Awesome man! Thanks for the support. I’m jealous of you guys up in BC, beautiful areas and awesome hunts. Good luck 👍

That works well
I change left and rigth eye for spotting and the other eye stays open.Try ❤
Excellent tip Cliff! I'll definitely be trying this out on my upcoming extended Mulie hunt! Thanks brother!
For sure man! Good luck on the hunt

I’m working on it while rifle shooting 👍I’ve heard from a few folks that said it improved their shooting as well
Clint, another great video! You have great analytical skills to back up your real world experience.
Nice. Sun glasses are a good one.

👍 that’s interesting the diff between rifle/bow and pistols… but makes sense!
Cool tip! I never thought about this being the reason pirates might wear eye patches.
Mythbusters did a test on the eye patch. It’s great for switching between low light and bright environments

So simple but man this was helpful!! Thank you again!
Thank you I learned a few things.
Glad to hear it! Thanks
Cliff would you please do a video on clothing you like and why? I love all your videos
Same practice done bro 👍👍
So much knowledge where do I fill out an application to come work for u
👍thanks!
Not hiring at the moment, haha
I've pulled my beanie over my eye before. Worked pretty good once my eye started straining too much.
Good tip. Thanks
Having good glass helps one day I gotta get some great glass 👍🏻
👍👍👍

Do you do the same when looking through your rifle scope

The bennie could be an option…
Or.. you can just buy the amazing BTX and use both eys 😎
I have it and it makes for extremely comfortable viewing
i use a large enough beanie to pull over one of my eyes

Ha! I like it. I have actually started shooting both eyes open also… works!
Nice trick, train your brain 😊😊
🍻
Best thing I ever did was train myself to shoot with both eyes open

👍good tip. Thanks
Glasses are great but go one step better, paint the lens or use tape to black it out.
Saw another video, someone using a cheap eyepatch
More corollary than caveat
Thanks… that’s the vocab I was looking for!
