Paul is learning how to be a dog, and clearly is happier than he's ever been thanks to this couple.
Yes it's such a relief when these babies get rescued.
❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
@Kim Walter
Such a Good boy
Never seeing racing poor dogs again
I worked with a group of people in Post Falls Idaho when that horrible track was closed.
These dogs are so wonderful.
My first greyhound was from Idaho! She was lovely!
@@youreaeejit511 next you gonna be sad for extinction of factory farmed animals or?
@eileensimpson, Greyhound racing in Idaho has been illegal for many, many years, so what you're talking about happened many, many years ago. How about living now and not in the past. Tracks are not horrible at all. If they were, greyhounds couldn't race on them. The tracks are groomed before each race to make them the safest place for the greyhounds to run.
@@momtoty have owned 2 separate greyhounds who were both rescues and lived long lives. Over the years my feelings on tracks and kennels have slowly changed. I have softened my feelings on them and in fact have seen how well some tracks have treated their dogs. I am now of the belief that most tracks try and do well for the dogs. I mean really they have to. I have seen some kennels even set up extremely nice living spaces for each of their dogs. My only concern now is the overbreeding of dogs because I believe that’s where some kennels get into trouble.
@@Tackleqb There is no overbreeding now since the tracks in FL closed. There are only 2 tracks left open in WV. There is a shortage of available greyhounds to adopt now because breeders aren't breeding like they used to and some breeders have stopped all together. Some adoption groups are getting greyhounds from IR, UK and AU to bring here so people can adopt them. My adoption group had to disband because we can't get any greyhounds now. It was a sad day when FL voted to close the tracks. A lot of people lost their jobs and their livelihoods. Many kennel owners went back generations and now it's all gone. Th love they had for their greyhounds was enormous. There were many tears shed when the last greyhounds walked out of the kennels for the last time.
If you've ever seen what these greyhounds go thru to be "trained to race" you'd cry tears of joy for Paul so glad he's able to experience love 👏🏿
I was looking for this comment, not sure exactly what greyhounds go thru & can’t watch it if it’s gets the best of me😢. I can only imagine it’s as similar to how dog fights & circus animals are treated.
@Eerie Sheena not like dog fighting but similar to circus animals. You could probably find out if you researched it but I wouldn't unless you live in an area where dog racing still happens. The more knowledge you have the better you can get it on your local voting ballot to get rid of it. It takes perseverance because these gambling companies have a lot of money to fight it. But never ever give up.
@@debbiescott6732
Funny how everything comes down to Money with some people,
@@susanfrancis5471 definitely
@itz1av3 What do greyhounds go through to learn how to race? What have you seen yourself? Greyhounds aren't forced to learn how to race. It's impossible. They just learn to chase after a toy and if they have no desire to chase, they get an early retirement and go home with their owner or go to an adoption group to get adopted. Nothing cruel ever happens to greyhounds. Cruelty won't produce a good racer. Quite the opposite. They get the best care and plenty of love. That's why they make such wonderful pets.
It's awesome to see him run because he wants to, not because he has to. This breed is quiet by nature, so to hear him howl, was amazing, and to see him relax and enjoy just being a dog, was great. Thank you for sharing his journey with us.❤❤❤
@melissamartin8266 He never had to race. He raced because he loved it. Greyhounds are never forced to race. It's impossible.
@BeepBoopBaap "...as long as they aren't abused", there's the rub.
@@Samsona75 Greyhounds aren't abused. Abused greyhounds can't race and isn't that what it's all about? That's like beating up a football player and the expecting him to play the game.
@@momtoty ...well, as a person who has a greyhound who was abused. I beg to differ. She was a terrible runner and was treated horribly. That's my reality.
@@Samsona75 How do you know she was treated horribly? Who told you? Her handler? Did you see how she was treated yourself? Or are you just ASSumng she was? Do you 100% proof from her handler? That is the ONLY person you should believe because her handler is the one that was with her 14 hours a day, 7 days a week until she was retired. You aren't stupid enough to believe abused greyhounds can race are you? It's not only impossible but it's against regulations. Did you ever reach out to talk to her handler? Greyhounds get the best care, better than a lot of adopted greyhounds do. I don't believe she was abused at all whether she was a bad racer or not. If she wasn't a good racer, the owner would retire her to an adoption group where you adopted her. The main purpose of racing greyhounds is to have them race their best so abusing them defeats the purpose. That's like beating up a football player and expecting him to play the game. Stupid isn't it? Well it's stupid to even think greyhounds are abused and expected to race their best.
We need more people to be like this in the world❤

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING PAUL! A WONDERFUL STORY!!
you cant save a dog from a good situation!
@@youreaeejit511 How do you know it was a good situation, we don't know either way. I had a greyhound who was in a great situation and was super well adjusted. My current greyhound was horribly abused - this is obvious to anyone who'se met her.
@@bettynorton6791 He wasn't saved, he was retired and adopted.
Thank you for saving Paul and giving him the home he always deserves.
cant save him from a good previous life!
he loved his race career!
@lunkis3233 Paul wasn't saved, he was retired and adopted. He was never in any danger to be saved from.
@momtoty so the rescue who took in him didn't save him? I would say that is wrong who knows what would have happened to him?! So..
@@lunkis3233 the dog was willingly brought to the center. If there was no adoption center then the dog would go to a friend. Its illegal to kill greyhounds now after retirement. The industry and kennels want to know what your plans are with the dog when theyre finished. Theres transportation options to go to different countries for adoption as well.
This story was our story. Our Sterling is now long gone, but lived to the happy age of 13. Thanks for sparking my memories and a few tears.
When my mom lived in Florida, when I went to visit her, her roommate adopted a greyhound and he was the best dog, he didn't leave my side the whole time I was there, he would wait outside the bathroom and cry.
We had a rescue Greyhound years ago when she was just fantastic. She got along with our dalmatian, and she was as sweet as can be.
They are all so sweet it is their human masters that are the problem. 🤬
@@marieslabbert6009 Hello, how are you doing today hope you're having a wonderful day 👋👋
My folks adopted a retired racer back in the 80's..... and we went through similar introductions to new things..... he really came out of his shell when they retired to the beach and he could run all he wanted...... and watch out for that tail.... it's like a whip when they are happy
It's always nice to see greyhounds featured on The Dodo. I've had greyhounds since adopting my first one in 2004, and they are absolutely wonderful, gentle, sensitive, and loving pets. They do require some extra patience in the beginning because literally everything is new to them: other breeds of dogs, stairs, windows, couches, etc. Paul's behavior was very normal. But, their real personality starts to emerge. We always like to say that you'll have a whole different dog a year later!
They learn very quickly and become precious family members. I have three greyhounds waiting at the bridge and one wonderful dog, Flashy, with me today. He's my whole world!
My wife and I adopted a retired racer in 2020 and it definitely took a lot of patience on our end and almost a year for her to get comfortable and really start showing her goofy personality. She's so smart and gentle. Everyone in my extended family that has met her loves her, even my grandma who hated most dogs but loved our grey.
As a former racer mom Ican attest to the patience required. These babies aren't socialized and have never used stairs. Once you are accepted and overcome their fears they are the best and most loving fur babies in the world.
What a sweet soul. It was awesome to see his zoomies and how much he came out of his shell. He is gorgeous.
I must admit I've ignorant to this. I thought that these dogs liked to race but I should have know that there were some awful people involved. I always liked at it like horse racing because I thought it was regulated. I guess I'm gonna have to do some research on both.
They do like to run, but they like to have families too.
@@Xfactor444-x4n They ARE treated well, prob better than the family dog. A mistreated dog will not race well and hence no owner worth their salt will render mistreatment/cruel punishment
What a beautiful thing helping this Greyhound discover more to life than running in a circle. It's humans like the two of you that make the world a better place for Paul and the rest of us. Thank you!
it really isnt, its people like these who milk their dogs "sob story" that are going to contribute to the extinction to the greyhounds breed as we know it.
What a sweetheart he is. Thanks for giving him everything that he deserves.
So happy for Paul. I wish him the best life!
The sweetest, smartest, most loving dog I ever had was a "recycled racer." Her name was Grace. I had her for 10 beautiful years and she never barked once. While racing, they live in crates stacked high atop each other with ramps, so they have never used stairs. They have never had a toy. They are let out of their crates to pee on the "caretakers'" time schedule, so are not housebroken when you adopt, but they are wicked smart and learn very fast! They eat from huge community troughs so have never had their own food or water dish. It broke my heart. Her only goal in the last years of her life was to make me happy. I hope I made her just as happy. I miss her every day.

My rescue greyhound passed away at the beginning of fall last year. This makes me smile through the tears. Thank you!
We've had 11 of these wonderful dogs. Some took a little while to come out of their shells. These good people did it the right way. Patience, encouragement, consistent schedule in the home and a TON of love. My heart was truly warmed by this video. Run free and happy, Paul! ❤
When a dog has never lived in a house, they do not know how to react. My rescue had never lived in a home, walked on the grass, rode in a car etc. Teo years in now and its been a great turn around. Thank you for being such an angel!!
Sometimes when I get a little down, I watch something like this. You folks are doing the Lords work. Thanks for posting.
Honestly, I’m happy you gave him your lives. He is giving you his!
This is so cute! Seeing that the dog was happy, makes me happy! We need more people to help these animals by giving them patience and love. ❤
Yes 💯.
"help"? help from what? racing isnt abuse the dogs are treated better than any pet dog.
This is a similar experience to most greyhound carers. Our first was like this, our second, older was totally cool with everyting. DO youyrself a favour and rescue one of these absolutely beautiful dogs. You will not regret it. Better yet, get two!
Yes, take the time to be patient. Adventures and hikes, woof 🐾🤣
Yep, patience is a virtue.
Our greyhound, Archer (his racing name was Jitterbug but, we thought it was-blehh) came from the same track. Luckily for him, he wasn't particularly good at his job so his owner surrendered him to Greyhound Pets of America. At first, we were just fostering him but we were really total failures as foster parents since we almost immediately decided to adopt him. When he first came off the track he wasn't especially fearful of really anything-he'd never really suffered any trauma from people, but he was not really well socialized, much like Paul. He also had incredible difficulty with stairs. Up, he could do. Down....next to impossible. We were lucky to live in the Charleston, SC area since there was a huge GPA presence there and we'd often have meet-ups at a local (fenced in) dog park. The most incredible thing to see is a dozen or so greyhounds doing 40 mph together, not confined to a track. Best of luck with Paul. Working with these dogs has been one of the most incredible and rewarding experiences I've ever had. It's wonderful to see him in such a kind and caring home.
My Mom rescued a Greyhound too, Brindle, like Paul. Her name was Sadie!🙏💜🙏🥰🥰🥰❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Paul knows he has the Best Mommy and Daddy!
His whole face just changes😁
It's beautiful to see a Greyhound running because he wants to, rather then because he has to
@doodles3075 He never had to race. You can't force greyhounds to race. He raced because he loved it.
@tommorrison1960 Comparing slaves to greyhounds is so stupid. The slaves were forced to work, or they got punished or killed. Greyhounds are never forced to race. It's impossible to force them to chase if they have no interest. They do it because it's a fun game to them. Try using common sense instead of being so stupid.
2:53 my heart skipped a beat when I saw this! Paul so relaxed and living his best life! 💖
Hey, how's it going so far today hope you're having a wonderful day 👋👋 wish I could be like Paul
the horrible things humans do to animals. I'm glad this sweet dog was saved.
@patsyrock-li8wz What horrible things? What have you seen with your own eyes? Did you report it? What kennel? When? This greyhound wasn't saved from anything. he was retired and adopted.
@Olgabceot I know all about greyhounds, their careers and their care. I've been involved for 24 years with greyhounds. I don't have to look for altered videos. I go right to the source, the people that work with greyhounds every single day, 7 days a week, 14 hours a day. Greyhounds are the best kept breed anywhere. They are Vet checked every week at the kennels, they are checked by a track Vet before and after each race. They get checked more than any other breed on earth. They are exercised every day, walked every day, get whirlpool soaks after each race, get rub downs every day. You can't mistreat a greyhound and then expect him to race his best. It's impossible and against regulations. It's time you do the right research, not propaganda crap from lying activists.
I actually cried seeing him change.....bless his heart ❤️ and people like his new family to teach him how to be an actual dog and not entertainment for people to bet on.
@Officer Dibble i figured, thanks for looking out
Families that have adopted these dogs are angles on earth.

Thank you for rescuing a retired racing greyhound! The whole world is new to them. They spend their entire life in a cage except when they race and maybe get outside to potty. They don't know how to be a dog. So glad you took your time and went at his pace. I'm glad he's so happy now. They are just big couch potatoes. I'm so happy he's a happy dog now. *THERE MUST BE A SPECIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR THOSE WHO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED. GOD BLESS YOU !!!*
I have an Italian greyhound, her name is cornflake and loves to hug
He's got the cutest big nose 😭😭 lol 🤣
Look into the dark side of greyhound racing to better understand their lack of social skills, over-
whelming fears of the "outside world", and why tracks are being shut down around the country.
Thanks to people like these folks for rescuing these gentle souls today, but thanks must also go
out to PETA for getting the wheels turning in the right direction several years ago.
Him standing around his friends with that dog jacket was so cute
He’s really beautiful and blessed.
Paul is so beautiful! I am happy to see that Paul has a harness instead of a collar at a point in the video! Harnesses are more humane than collars and harnesses don't put pressure on the neck like collars do. I recently found out from a reputable holistic veterinarian that dog ear infection could be due to neck injuries and as a matter of fact, sometimes health problems in the head and ears are related to neck injuries so I hope all dog parents can use harnesses instead of dog collars. 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have a bicycle path/trail behind my home. It hurts my heart when I see people walking their dogs and jerking back on the leash. And so many do.
I always wish I could do the same to them 😠.
If you don't take the time to train a dog to listen to you, then at least have some compassion and put a harness on them instead of a just a collar.
@@sbffsbrarbrr Yes yes I fully agree! People do not need to read medical articles to know collars are bad and inhumane. Just the visual is enough to understand how inhumane it is to use a collar. Dogs are not slaves, they needed to be treated humanely. We do not “own” our dogs, we are their parents. If people do not use collars on their babies, why would they use collars on dogs?
This was wonderful ... we are on our 5th adoption of retired racing Greyhounds and they are magical. Beautiful, strong, loving and affectionate canines ... we have a fenced half acre and they have a doggie door so they can go out whenever they want. They are loving life and we are loving them.
That's beautiful. These babies deserve so much happiness in retirement. You're good people. God bless you 🙏 ❤️ 🙌
My first greyhound came right off the track. We used to joke about how we had to teach her how to be a dog. Give her "dog lessons" They really are the sweetest dogs. I've never known a breed like them. LAZY!!
Living the life, enjoying the life and be alive. He's gorgeous.
Those poor greyhounds! They are so sweet. I am from Florida and we voted to stop the greyhound racing. I'm so glad it passed! Those poor dogs were exploited horribly. No wonder this poor baby had so much fear instilled in him..😑 Thank you for giving this precious baby a home where he no longer has to work for the sick, sadistic pleasure of cruel people. May precious Paul live the rest of his life happily.
Paul's zoomies are precious! His tail swinging around is too cute!
I’ve always smiled to see retired greyhounds enjoying their new homes.
Good that Paul has found a loving family. Don't abandon Paul when he gets older or fall sick. Love him truly.
It's called a "roo" and all the greyhounds at the annual GPA Wisconsin Greyhound Gala get to do it together. Lots of fun!
Hi Cindy, how are you doing. I’m so sorry for intruding but if I must say you got such an adorable smile
My friend rescued a greyhound and she has gone through a similar journey. It's so lovely to see them run, just like they should, as a dog! Not as a driven animal for human sport. Paul is gorgeous 💛💛
@tmm5115 Greyhounds aren't driven to race. Paul raced because he loved to chase. You can't force a greyhound to race around track. Just how would you force them to chase a lure? If they have no prey drive to chase, they aren't forced to. That's impossible. Greyhounds race because they love it, they love the chase.
He is just one big goofball now with a caring family 👍👍🤣🤣
From terrified to filled with love and joy. You folks are heroes.
Rescued Greyhounds are wonderful pets. Ours arrived in California over 15 years ago and we had her for 5 wonderful years before she died of bone cancer. No one had sent her the memo that Greys are aloof so she went around acting like a Lab, charming everyone in sight and sticking her long snout where it didn't belong, lol! My husband used to take her to work and his co-workers used to take turns walking her because she was such a sweetheart. I cried so hard when I took her to the vet that last day and still miss her. She's chasing squirrels in sky now.
Paul is an absolute legend in his winter wear, keep on learning how to dog my friend 😍

Hi dear, adorable smile you got there and I love it. What’s your name if i may ask?
Greyhounds really are the best companions. So gentle and calm, don’t need lots of exercise, always wanting to be snuggled on the sofa. Anyone reading this, please advocate for the breed and shout about adopting a Greyhound!
Years ago our family adopted a greyhound that had raced in Florida but no longer was winning any money for his owners. So owners would either turn over the dogs to a rescue or they would euthanize them. The dog we adopted didn’t know what a dog bed was or what a toy was. He didn’t know how to swim in pool or lake. He had spent his life in a cage only out to race. It took time but he became the biggest lap dog and such a sweet boy.
So wonderful to see him realize he is safe and loved ❤️
I've had many dogs, but few as rewarding as my retired racer. Greyhounds are quirky clowns, they love people, sleep in the most ridiculous positions, & there is no joy like the joy of a happy grey. Watching them run & explore their new world is inspirational.
So great to see all those greyhounds get adopted and loved. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
It's such an amazing experience watching these little dudes turn from strangers to family. Dogs and humans were meant for each other.

theres no right way to be a dog. He was a sport and working dog before this ofc he needs an ajustmant period he wasnt "abused"
@BeepBoopBaap Exactly, dogs need a job or a sport to do to have a good life. I have 4 of my own dogs all of different sizes and each one has a purpose.
Im a firm believer that all dogs regardless of breed or size should have something to do.
