    This is the best video I've ever seen. I never even thought of it as using your whole body when speaking, it's so simple and clear when explained but it's never explained usually! It's actually fun to speak now, I feel as if I'm spreading energy with people when speaking to them as I'm practicing. I can't believe you made this in 2013, it will forever help people into the future, can't believe I only found it now! Best of luck and health to you, handsome guy too!

    This video is very eye opening I always thought I was cursed with a very low voice so I avoid jobs that involve public speaking.

    Thanks so much for your encouraging feedback. You don't know how much that means to me. Making the videos does take a lot of work, but comments like yours make it all worthwhile. Let me know if you think of any other topics that could be addressed.

      Do you have any exercises on how to have a smooth speaking voice?

  • @voiceandspeech
    @voiceandspeech  11 лет назад +7

    Thanks! Generally, you're going to breathe through your mouth whenever you speak, since you need quantities of air fairly quickly, and your nostrils aren't large enough to accommodate that amount of air. Most people are already breathing through their mouth when they speak--they just don't think about it. In my entire career, I've only had 2 clients who did breathe through their nose. That's how rare it is, though sometimes I do catch myself taking a short breath through my nose. I'd rather not.

    I got it. Waay was a great example. Without this were only part of our voice and resonance makes me sound more full, my whole body vibrates when I talk. Life changing...Thank you

    Thank you! The video focuses on chest resonance. That would keep my voice consistently low. What is the best way to move from chest to oral resonance and back for more dynamic and melody in my speech?

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  Год назад +1

      Time and consistent practice will develop your ease and familiarity with both of those options so you can employ either or both in a way that's appropriate for the situation.

    so, relaxation + breathing = speaking with the whole body?

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  6 лет назад

      Hmm... I'd feel more comfortable saying relaxation + breathing + resonance = speaking with the whole body.

    • @koonyak
      @koonyak 6 лет назад

      But what is resonance?in the video u mentioned resonance = speaking with the whole body

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  6 лет назад

      You're right, I did say that at 03:10. It was probably an oversimplification. I should have said that relaxation + breathing + vibration = resonance (speaking with the whole body).

    What would be a good exercise to help make my speaking voice smooth and flowing? Can you please let me know of any ideas that come to mind?!

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  5 лет назад

      There's no one exercise that will accomplish that on its own, maybe lip flutters, ruclips.net/video/AR-ow2e7lzE/видео.html, but some people really struggle with those. Contact me by email and I can hook you up with a free mini course that would be a better approach.

    The question is just how can we apply those principles in real world..

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  6 лет назад

      Just through time and practice. Eventually, you'll be able to feel/sense sound vibrations throughout your body without using your hands to monitor it. By then you'll be speaking with a more resonant voice.

    Does this help make your speaking voice smooth?

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  5 лет назад

      Perhaps to some extent. I'd say it does more to add fullness and richness to your tone. To my mind, smoothness comes from having little to no background noise in the sound (roughness, breathiness, scratchiness and so forth) and that's probably more related to relaxation and breath support rather than resonance. Of course all three of those components interact so closely that it's hard to isolate one from the other.

    I was told at work today I had amazing resonance while speaking. I don't even understand what that means 😂

    • @voiceandspeech
      @voiceandspeech  11 месяцев назад

      Think of it as richness and fullness, a pleasing and engaging tone of voice.
