There's actually one other notable role in SMT history that you didn't mention. Oyamatsumi in II needs to be rescued from one of the 5 temples to retrieve a piece of Masakado's body. It's a small role sure, but given that the Kunitsukami and Amatsukami are given a spotlight in II I think it warrants a mention at least.
I'd say they probably didn't wanna change the design of someone who was already in the original game, but Vengeance kinda already threw that idea out the window when they made Lilith one of the biggest new figures. It's like in SMTIV:A when we got the shiny new Ultraman Odin design but Thor in that game is still the old Conan the Barbarian design.
@@strain42 In Odin's case that was mainly because he was plot important. Also side note on his Design I just love how Doi Just decided to fuse Huginn and Muninn into one Giant four eyed raven I think it's Smart.

Arahabaki is gonna be a hilarious episode because SMT Arahabaki is basically: What if we took some bullshit article from the 70s, gave it an iconic Shakouki Dogu design and called it Arahabaki? Like, IIRC, irl Arahabaki is old enough to where we're not sure what he(if that's the right pronoun, mf is THAT old) really is about. Though I won't deny, I think of Arahabaki every time I see that type of Dogu(such as Shakkoumon), I keep calling them "Dolls with dubious relationships with physical attacks" after Arahabaki's rather comedic "MF that reflects physical" nickname
Thats true; digging into the background of Arahabaki's inspiration, things are very dubious. Arahabaki has more of a legacy in the series than its inspiration has in general in many respects, and that seems really fun to see discussed; certainly its storied relationship with the notion of being punched in the face

I feel like if I ever do Lucifer I'm just gonna have to be like "This episode of the Demonic Compendium contains spoilers for the following games: ALL OF THEM!!!" Like obviously that's hyperbole, but dang, better safe than sorry XD
I doubt I'll do an actual REVIEW of Vengeance. I dunno. I just feel like my writing style doesn't lend itself to reviews (which may be why Atlus doesn't give me game codes...) but I'll still probably take a look at it. Do a Ranking all New Demons video or something.
I know this is a out there request but Sedna from strange journey and smt IV games. I love that she looks like a mermaid cylcops version of Bernadette of fire emblem three houses. Her personality gives me the same vibes Bernadette has. Head cannon time: Sedna's personality is just a shy,quiet, tsudere that is a the most worried,cute little demon. Sorry for rambling always had a soft spot for her
Assuming that you're talking about SMTV, I think you might need to complete the sidequest associated with him before you can unlock him for fusion, but I'm not entirely positive.

Honestly considering his daughter Sakuya is in this game I was expecting her dad would at least get a more mythology faithful redesign.

I like to imagine there's a more human looking Oyamatsumi inside the rock body, like he's controlling a mech suit made of stone
But he does have a magutsuhi combo with her. So that must've count for something.
