  • Where do we find reincarnation in the Bible? How many times might a person reincarnate? And how does reincarnation fit into the greater picture of the afterlife, the world of resurrection, and what happens to a soul after death? Also: does Judaism subscribe to the notion of an eternal hell?
Find out in this class as we dive into Biblical reincarnation and answer the big questions about the transmigration of souls and the afterlife.

You’re next generation is your children and grandchildren and people usually live to see them and some don’t have children at all, that dairy of reincarnation doesn’t fit that
How is 2-3, generations you live again if you still living???
Reincarnation if exist it’s on absolutely no need to know basic
And scriptures have different explanation much simpler and actually make sense, but I won’t say it here

Thank you SO MUCH for this message. So comforting to me right now. My close companion of 4 years died very suddely yesterday from a massive stroke and brain bleed. He was taken from me "so suddenly." I believe I was put into his life to lead him to Torah. When we met, he didn't know anything about it, but he died KNOWING YHWH, and believing in the TORAH. I believe he "cleared some past sins" in this life, and has graduated. Perhaps he will reincarnate now at a "higher level." He had a VERY ROUGH LIFE in this incarnation. I PRAY HE DOES BETTER NEXT TIME AROUND. Baruch Hashem, and todah to you, Rabbi. Love your messages.

@@EfraimPalvanov Thank you. I have been reciting the Kaddish Mourner's prayer this week. One question. If everyone gets reincarnated....even the goyim.....how does that line up with Amalek and Esauv being destroyed in "end times?" Would that be the equivalent to the 4 strikes and you're out? Just assuming then that even someone from those tribes could "convert" before the "final battle," and avoid that final judgment? I was just wondering how you could be reincarnated if you were part of those groups? Any light on this matter would be helpful. Again, this message has really blessed me; I listened to it twice, and really look forward to Part 2. Shalom.

The soul’s sentence in Gehinnom is usually limited to a 12-month period of purgation before it takes its place in Olam Ha-Ba (see: Mishnah Eduyot 2:10 and Shabbat 33b). This 12-month limit is reflected in the yearlong mourning cycle and the recitation of the Kaddish (the memorial prayer for the dead).
Only the utterly wicked do not ascend to the Garden of Eden at the end of this year. Sources differ on what happens to these souls at the end of their initial time of purgation. Some say that the wicked are utterly destroyed and cease to exist, while others believe in eternal damnation (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Law of Repentance, 3:5-6).

@@TagMahirTzedek The Babylonian Geonim are our Mesorah for halakha, including the proper methodology to Biblical exegesis and interpretation of Midrash/Agadata. However, as Rambam himself wrote in Moreh Nevukhim, as far as he was aware, authentic Jewish mysticism was lost. A living esoteric mesorah was nowhere to be found besides Sefer Yesira (which Rav Sa'adya wrote a perush on but eventually admitted he didn't understand it), Sifre Hekhalot and shiur Qoma. Rambam rejected these sefarim but Ibn Ezra accepted and Rav Yehudah HaLevi did as well to my knowledge. At least Sefer Yesira. Chakhme Yisrael and Rome MIGHT have carried on an esoteric mesorah and transmitted to the German Rabbanim and eventually the Rabbanim of Provence and the Ra'avad's family, but it's difficult to say with full certainty.

In my opinion, it is far-fetched to claim that this text, Job 33:28, speaks of a two or three times reincarnation. Verse 28 indicates that God always gives us a chance in our foolishness. In this respect he brings the man's soul back "from the pit" two or three times. This does not seem to be meant literally in the form of reincarnation.
Job 33:28: "He REDEEMED MY SOUL BEFORE going down into the pit, and my life may see the light. 29 Behold, God does all this twice, three times with the man, 30 to bring back his soul from the pit, so that he is illuminated by the light of life."
Likewise, most people understand Exodus 34:6-7 in a figurative sense. God certainly doesn't punish the next generations, but gross mistakes in one generation still leave a lasting impact on the fourth generation. This can be seen, for example, in the generation of Germans whose great-grandfathers made themselves guilty in the Second World War and still suffer from a bad reputation today.
One also asks oneself: What is the point of three reincarnations? Why only three and not four, five, twelve! or even seventy-seven? Does this also apply to Adam and Eve? Why was it said that they would die "on the same day" if they were going to be reincarnated two or three times? What would be the point of that? Where are they today? Did they finally manage to pass through the gates into paradise? This thing hasn't been thought through at all.
Very importantly, according to the Thora/Tanach, there is no immortal soul, an important and original pagan concept made up by Satan. However, the doctrine of reincarnation is based on the immortal soul. There is no other way.
If we go to the meta level of faith: For me, this example shows how Judaism has also been diluted and changed over the centuries. Today, sadly, Jews believe things they never would have believed or accepted before. The cause is distorted thinking in scholarly circles, which obviously creeps into every religion. Unfortunately, Judaism is no exception. A pity.
The New Testament approach is much simpler, more logical and in the spirit of the Torah: "Whoever has died is absolved of his sin. The wages that sin pays is death."

Here is another ineresting point I found concerning time differences:
How Long is Punishment in Gehinom? Time There is Different.
If a person goes to the first six levels of Gehinom for whatever sins they've committed, there is a punishment and it's a very serious punishment. But it end at some point
It can be a month, it could be 5 thousand years, it could be five million years, but at some point it ends.
Remember, time over there is not like time over here. So even if mashiach comes, it doesn't mean that the person, let's say mashiach comes next year, it doesn't mean that a person that goes to gehinom tomorrow is only going to be in gehinom for one year. It doesn't mean that. There's no time over there.
Meaning, that moshiach could come next year, but that person went to Gehinom for 50,000 years. Why? Because there's no time there.
Here it's a year. Over there could be fifty thousand years.
One of the places we learn this in the torah is parashat shelach. What did Hakodesh Baruch Hu say to Am Yisrael? He says: you said something against the land and said lashon hara about the land after going there for forty days. For every one of your days I'm going to count a year. That's a forty year punishment. Forty days trip, one second actual sin, became a forty year punishment. No one from that generation entered Eretz Yisrael. Here we already see that Hakodesh Baruch Hu's time span and clock is very different than ours. A one second sin could be centuries of punishment.
I think that’s something to think about also before claiming there is not more then max 12 months of cleaning. If this would be the case people could think ,H‘shem yishmor , „I can do which ever sin I want and get only max 12 month of purgatory. I think that also makes absolutely no sense

I enjoy the applause, another great class. Thank you. When i think of fourth generation from exodus verse , i think of tikkun from Terah to Job. literally The fourth generation, Job was family with Abraham, he lived in the times of Isaac, even met him under a different name.. the verses of exodus/amos/ Job that Arizal takes to extract 3 strikes and you are out, is not personal to a SOUL being, but a portion of wickedness that dies off, hence the refined parts elevates; as per.Sha’ar HaGilgulim, Ch. 20 People in zohar communities, speak that a body is nothing, and you are a soul. nah, you are not even That. a soul, is lent to us, in different portions, and so we are the body in motion, we are Time itself burning up when We are Here. people speak that identity is only corporal, but each soul unit is identified in gd s no Time Zone..The idea that a soul has no identity is false, even if mention by jewish teachers. . and in these, souls, a mixture of good and evil. hence, why the verses Arizal chose also mean the same thing, specifically exodus verse; you might be impregnated by your parent s sin UNKNOWINGLY, UNAWARE, And to not know the law, does not excuse you from punishment, so toil is why you r here. You really did a great Job explaining the tikkun process. the idea that we are a soul is misunderstood, and ONLY very learned zohar teachers know that ultimately the body is essentially the epitome of gd s grace. We keep on coming back, to sin IN HOLLINESS IS where it s at.

There was a wise man. He was dearly beloved. He was an intellectual and poetic individual. One day he met an Assyrian Prince who recently arrived to Jerusalem from Nineveh. The young man was sitting against the wall on a side street because a lover of his became physically abusive. The wise man saw that he needed help and magically healed his broken nose and ankle. The Assyrian couldn't understand why this man helped him when others he encountered treated him as a heretic. The wise man said, "I knew that I loved you the moment I laid my eyes upon you. I saw that you were in need of help. So I extended my hand out to you."
The Assyrian questioned the man and accepted the hand that this man held out. The wise man invited the prince over for dinner but the prince refused to eat. The wise man saw that life was unkind and so he took it upon himself to do what needed to be done for his new friend and student. The wise man taught him the ways of being able to bring to balance the forces within themselves. He taught him the way to navigate the tree of life and at the same time, this wise man wanted to learn from the Assyrian, the mysteries of the Goddess. He was so intrigued by the man he met that he wondered why.
They became more than just friends. He saw within the Assyrian an enchanting soul linked to the goddess. The wise man worshipped the ground the goddess walked upon. He began to covet the power of her and one day, he woke up and realized there was something deeply wrong with the world. He made it his mission to teach people what he realized. But the so-called sages didn't want him spreading the truth. IT is because the truth would set a person free.
People haven't realized that they've been locked into cycles of reincarnation that has been causing them to get more and more lost in this matrix. The wise man approached the Assyrian and told him that he needed to see the truth, he said, "They will hate you because of me. Remember that you're loved. No matter how hard it gets. Follow the teachings I gave you." So the Assyrian indeed learned the truth about the old sages. This Assyrian man saw they were lying to the people and purposely holding them back from the truth. The Assyrian became an agent for King David.
The redemption is here, but who will listen to the truth?
When King Solomon heralds the arrival of King David, who will listen?

I have not yet listened to Part 2 of this topic, but here are a few concerns and comments I have:
    1) The graphic texts you (E.P.) project have both Hebrew and English, but the English translates the name of GD as YH-WH, without the hyphen. I've only seen this abbreviation used by non-Jews, including "Messianic Jews" (Jews for Jesus). Please explain why you are using that abbreviation rather than YKVK (substituting K for H) or Y-H-V-H (with hyphens or breaks between the letters), which are typically used by Torah Jews when referring to HaShem's 4-letter name.
    2) I thought that Iyov (Job) was not a Jew, and he was punished by hasatan for his part in not advising Paraoh to leave the Jews alone. (Iyov ran out of the room, rather than defend the Jews, as Yishai did. Later, Yishai was rewarded by becoming a righteous ger; having a Torah parsha named for him; becoming Moshe Rabbenu's honored father-in-law; and the being the progenitor of Torah scholars and Sanhedrin judges.)
    3) I thought that the sins of a generation can be passed to the successive generations because the newer souls are connected to the older souls, as they are part of the same branch of the tree of all neshamot (starting from Adam HaRishon). I suspect this in my own life.
    4) In each successive gilgul, does the person have an understanding of the tikkun they still need to do? If not, how does the tikkun progress? (My brain doesn't seem to know what I'm doing tikkun for, but I often ask my neshama to guide and advise me. Since my neshama has been on earth before ... )
    5) In the group of men who married at age 40: Rabbi Akiva, too, is said to have married Rachel and begun learning Hebrew and Torah at the same age.
    6) I have learned that righteous Jews can be reincarnated as kosher fish. When we eat according to Jewish law and practice, we elevate the souls of the food we eat.
Thank you, E.P., for recording and posting this shiur!
I'm an older B.T., and I love learning Torah PRDS. I know several FBB Jews who stay away from Kabbalah, and have advised me to do the same. (I don't heed their warnings. Rabbi Alon Anava teaches that the availability of Kabbalah is a sign that we need to learn it for Geulah times, Baruch HaShem! I tried to find English books about Kabbalah and RNOB 30 years ago, and they didn't exist yet.)

In some respects could reincarnation be thought of along similar lines to how a cell divides or how one candle lights many, essentially one is not strictly the same as before yet shares the same root. Also criticism of reincarnation within Judaism should be seen in the context of where critics mostly resided at the time, as reincarnation was largely associated with heterodox or ghulat sects. OTOH how does one reconcile reincarnation in Judaism with say the Ishbitzer's predeterministic perspective on free-will (where an individual can only at best control how they react to situations in life)?

  • @Josh-Leshem
    @Josh-Leshem 24 дня назад

What do you think about these sources?
It seems clear that the Sefer HaIkkarim (4:36) understood it literally. He writes that since God lasts infinitely, it is appropriate that one who sins against him be punished infinitely as well. And he notes that the passage in Rosh Hashana is consistent with this:
Given that his intent was to degrade the honour of the king, it is appropriate that he be punished according to his intent, and not according to the result of his deed alone, and therefore it is appropriate that the punishment coming to man be eternal just as God is eternal and without limit.
And this appears to be the opinion of our rabbis OBM; that there is eternal punishment for the wicked based on their temporally finite actions. They said in Tracteate Rosh Hashana (17a) regarding a portion of the wicked who descend to hell and are punished there for generation after generation, that it appears that there is eternal punishment.
This is also clearly the understanding of R. Meir Abulafia who writes (Iggerot Ramah #46) that one shouldn't think that those who will be resurected at the resurection of the dead, will die again, since then their reward wouldnt be eternal. Indeed, the punishment of the wicked is eternal, as we see in the passage in Rosh HaShana, so a fortiori the reward of the righteous must be as well.
Evidently, he understands that the punishment is literally eternal.
Similarly, a very similar passage in Genesis Rabba (ed. Albeck Parashat Vayechi: 97) is even more clearly talking about actual eternity than the passage in Rosh Hashana:
באותה שעה יפרע הקדוש ברוך הוא מאומות העולם פורענות גדולה שאין לה הפסק ואין לה קץ ומורידן לגיהינם ונידונין בה לדורי דורות שנ' ויצאו וראו בפגרי )האנשים (שם /ישעיהו/ סו כד

This would not be possible but for reincarnation and this when the Spirit of God places a person in one of those places
Jesus also spoke of many mansions which again alludes to a future life for believers in heavenly places or in the kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Heaven or any of the new earth and new heavens which could actually be another entire galaxy and planet

Thanks for this shiur! Rav Sa'adya Gaon argued gilgul ha'neshamot was a foreign concept the Jews of his time were adopting or already adopted to some degree. However, we have cases of children who reported things they couldn't have known (one case before internet become commonplace) so i personally believe in reincarnation. Im thankful to HaShem we have some evidence because i do feel reincarnation hells us better understand a whole lot of problems in life than without the concept.
Shemot 24 i must be honest isnt clear proof of anything. Its perush as well is if one continues the sins of their parents they get punished for theirs and their own. BUT Iyov 33 is a pretty explicit proof for gilgul ha'neshamot. Previously i thought there wasnt any explicit proof, so thank you Rabbi!
