cologne is like music. you can love a certain youthful song but when u get older it may loose its appeal. same thing happens when you hear a more mature song when you’re younger and don’t understand it fully because you have experienced much yet or whatever the song is about, it hasnt reached you yet. at first i didnt care for this one but as i kept smelling it as time passes, it generates this unique gasoline type of fueling energy behind it. it has the sophisticated ability and power to it. you have to give it some time before you understand why it’s truly one of the most important masterpieces ever developed.

Hey! Just today I've worn Lagerfeld Classic! I love it so much... in the spring of 1978 I was just a few months old... I always wear it as you said in your review = 5-6 sprays on the chest and then dressing up. Even now,12 hrs later I can still smell it underneath my shirt,it's such a beautyful scent, let's hope it will never be discontinued! Thank you for your appreciation for this classic!
This is a wonderful guide Chris, You opened me up to the idea of spraying the chest and letting the body heat and chemistry work the magic. I tried it today with Givenchy Xeryus( les parfums mythique version) and it added a warmth to the fragrance that wasnt there before, If I spray my neck its a woody dry scent , when i do the chest method it becomes warm, almost ambery and even a little resinous, its like a totally different fragrance, I cant wait to try this with my Kouros, Alain Delon Samourai Katana, Azzaro and once I have it , my Lagerfeld classic. Bravo for making different videos to the rest of fragcomm
I did 4 sprays on the chest and it was perfect! I got whiffs throughout the day! A perfect prescription for Covid days. Yes, a German expressionism scent indeed. Bravo Chris!
I am glad you touched on this master piece once again. I did the 1st thing you said no to which sprayed on my hand and sniffed, however i felt in love none the less, it kept on projecting and developing wonderfully. I would be interested in seeing a video on perfume storage and aging from you clarifying some of the myths about shelf life and which perfume gets better with age vs ones that goes bad. Thank you again for sharing your time and opinion, it is greatly appreciated. Kindest regards Al janabi
Thank you for imparting upon us your deep understanding of this time-tested pinnacle of perfumery! Your passion to the art is inspiring and heartfelt and will surely rub off on those who have yet to view your content.
Absolutely right...it may be very off putting in the first place to some, but it enfolds one of the most beguiling smells after half an hour, when applied like you describe...absolutely love it. I have the latest interparfums edition and a unilever bottle...love both. The actual version lasts the whole day and smells perfect to me. The bottle design in combination with the juice color is as good as it gets, despite the plastic cap.
On your advice, just bought my first bottle. Elegance and power Beautiful Update: The weather has cooled a bit, and I got to wear to work today for first time. Followed your application advice and … oh boy, beautiful wafts of scent all day❤❤❤ Thanks Chris!
Remember your heartful winter market video about this beauty. Did not know the smell of it back then. Well now I know and must say, that setting and review captured its spirit perfectly.
Great Job Chris, Lagerfeld Classic will always be a Masterpiece in my opinion. I'm 53 and i grew up with all the late 70s and 80s powerful fragrances and when i compare fragrances from each decade til now to me i find that from 2000 and above fragrances lost character now it's more mass appeal and less substance. I wore Lagerfeld in my teens and it made me feel like a real man even though i was just a kid wearing a man's fragrance. My signature scent at 15 was the most underrated juice in my opinion The Baron to this day nothing smells like The Baron so unique and Manly. Take care friend!!!!!
Hi Chris. Thank you for the video!! I appreciate and value your opinion on fragrances. I have Classic, and I like it a lot. I have the Interparfums version, which I believe is the latest, since Coty’s contract was not renewed. I get an upfront strong tobacco that I love and a musky drydown with the tobacco remaining present. I have read that the Coty version has much more Vanilla from start to finish. I’m curious what version you prefer, and if you notice these differences between the 2 versions. I’m thinking of trying to get a Coty version as well.
I received it today. Love at first sniff :) reminds me a bit of Givenchy III which my late mom used to wear. I've been looking for a classic scent DNA like this and Lagerfeld Classic absolutely delivers. 10/10 masterpiece! Thanks for your review.
You just read my mind about this one. I have it in my collection and my first approach was exactly as you described...the same reaction🤣 but I think I'll give it a second try after your video... Thanks👍
I agree with fragrances mellowing in the bottle. My Chanel pour monsieur bottles always smell best when they are almost empty. They oxygenate or macerate. Such a wonderful thing on a high quality fragrance.
My first fragrance - my late father brought a bottle back from a trip to Sydney in 1989. It wasn't really the scent that my teenage self longed for, but it became one that I loved, and still love. I very much appreciate your continued passion for it, Chris, and have enjoyed your multiple reviews over the years, as well as its cameos in your other fragrance videos! Wonderful stuff.
I love the word "bouquet" when describing a scent. Very much in line with the lingo when tasting wine and certainly uses the same receptors. Lagerfeld still inexpensive too! Excellent vid Chris.
Hey Chris! Daumen hoch!
@@scentland4753 Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is what I remember the most from clubs in the late 1970's and early 1980's. It was as if they were pumping it out of the air conditioning vents. Every guy was wearing Paco. I saw Chubby Checker at a club in NYC in the mid 1980's. He performed half the show standing on our front row center table. By the time he got to "The Twist", he was sweating profusely and Paco Rabanne drenched perspiration was dripping all over our table. It smelled like he put on a quite a bit but in those days a splash or two was enough to light up a room! All men's fragrances were sold in splash or atomizer bottles back then. Azzaro Pour Homme, Chanel Pour Monsieur and Grey Flannel were the fragrances I wore to work back then. I bought Lagerfeld Photo when it first came out in 1990 and that became my date scent along with Obsession. The later Unilever version of Photo didn't have the strength of the original. I bought the Coty and Interparfums versions of Lagerfeld Classic in the last 5 years.
Interesting review. I started off with this about 40 years ago, but soon moved on to Lagerfeld's K.L. Homme, which became my signature scent for some years until they discontinued it (the bastards). Lagerfeld Classic at this point is one of the best buys in the fragrance world. I now have so many others in my collection that I like more, that I doubt I would continue to reach for this. But make no mistake: this is both classy and a winner. Don't downplay it simply because it wasn't released last month.
Just picked up a bottle. I’m enjoying it a lot!! There is one negative you overlooked… after a couple days of Karl… everything else in my collection feels boring and fleeting. Cheers!
I was gonna say, when i first bought Fahrenheit about 6 years ago, i was like wt* is this but about a month later, i was like, maaaan this is good...now it's one of my favorite fragrances of all time
Lagerfeld is best used for Formal and Special occasions not for everyday or casual, for me give a nice Italian suit and this ad boy and i will feel like Alain Delon!!!!!!
I wrote a pretty long comment a few years ago to one of your other two videos regarding the Unilever, Coty, and Interparfums versions. I didn't buy the Coty and Interparfums version until 2016 and I really don't know why considering I've been buying fragrances since the mid 1970's! I was a fan of Lagerfeld Photo and I bought it when it came out in 1990. For some reason, I never even took a sniff of Lagerfeld and I should have back when it came out as I really like anything with sandalwood. The dry down of Shalimar reminds me a bit of Lagerfeld. What do you think is going to happen with the line once the Interparfums licensing deal ends in 2024?
I feel KL Homme is definitely inspired by this but more complex and imo better. They should bring KL back and discontinue this one if they only can have one on the market.
i have different vintage versions of Lagerfeld cologne, Bethco, Parfums international/Lagerfeld, Made in England, made in france....all incredible all pure ART....before it was called lagerfeld classic wich imo is too harsh and too sharp, the cologne version is very ambery and soft and powerfull at the same time...the end of an era imo....

This is hands down the best users manual I've watched on a fragrance. I wish every manual had me this entranced.
This was very thoughtful and articulate. I learned something, and intend to pick up this. Thanks for doing it for us.
