❓ Is ESET good enough for malware detection?
Looking at the latest AV-test results, although ESET got pretty solid scores, catching all of the older, wider-known threats, it seems like it struggled to catch some newer malware. The 98.3% rating isn’t bad at all, but hey, there’s room to improve. I did my own testing as well, and the results were actually pretty similar. I planted 10 malicious files onto my PC, turned off real-time protection, and ran a full scan. This time, ESET NOD32 caught 9 of 10 threats.

❓ Is ESET easy to use?
This antivirus is pretty easy to set up and use, with a clean and well-organized interface. When you open the ESET Nod32 antivirus for the first time, it begins scanning your device and raises any issues right away. This is especially great for beginners who just want to clean their device.
In my eyes, ESET is primarily for PC users. Sure, there’s also an Android app, which is equipped with an antivirus scanner and some pretty useful features, but there’s no app for iOS users.

❓ Which ESET plan is the best?
Since the Firewall feature is essential for an antivirus, I’d recommend going for the Advanced security plan, aka ESET Internet security, which will cover all the bases. The most advanced plan, ESET Smart Security Premium, besides the password manager I mentioned, also adds ESET LiveGuard to the mix, which is a layer of protection against newer malware threats.

The best features of ESET were not even mentioned; Host Protection and it's heuristics capability. ESET is very light on resources, has extensive customizable protections and has a long record of excellent detection. It is worth the money.

You didn't mention ESET on Mac os. I use M1 Mac book Pro 16 for work (I'm a Linux admin & it's what the office IT gave me to wah) i have to reinstall ESET every 6mo or so because after a few Mac OS updates it eventually breaks. No idea if this is an ESET problem or a Mac problem though I'm betting probably a Mac one which brings me to my question, can you recommend an alternative anti virus specifically for Mac os.

Do you know if Eset uploads personal files to their cloud if they are infected?
I haven't used it recently, but as a long term user of the product, I install it on Windows machines for clients, friends and family. It puts files in Quarantine; locally. From memory there were occasions when it requested to send suspicious files immediately to ESET. The hueristics on ESET was really well developed, even years ago. The password manager and other bullshit features, I never bothered with. The host protection, system inspection tools, capability and low use of resources is what impressed me. It is a solid piece of software and I haven't really used any of the products in recent times; ESET was absolutely superior to Norton, McAfee and other well known anti-virus or system security software companies. It is worth the extra money.
