🤔 AirTags & Find My Privacy Deep Dive: ruclips.net/video/jGgkYXa5YWc/видео.html
How is your comment 6 hours old on a 5 minute old video?
I just tried to sign up to Curiosity Stream, but it failed when I was entering my card details. The final button to press did not become active. Tried clicking the chat button, but only got the AI. I was advised that support was only open during 9am - 5pm. I am in the UK and it’s 4.30pm and I would have thought all of the US is during 9-5.
Not a good first impression of Curiosity Stream
Can I opt out of the AirTag network, while still using the FindMy iPhone feature?
If not, will signing out of FindMy app stop all my participation in the network?
How hard is it to disable the hardware speaker on the airtag?
A nefarious actor can dremel out the speaker, and use the AirTag to track an android user - with him getting zero notifications.
The potential for abuse with these things are plenty, and apple is even now going to be opening up the FindMy network to 3rd parties.
Why are no real questions being asked?
Now we’re going to be happy to promote this ecosystem?
Won’t this just spur a cottage industry of small personal Bluetooth jammers?
A thief can grab your property or kids or pets, then mark his current location as home or work and they will then get a notification that your airtag is covertly tracking them in your stolen property. They would cause it to ‘sound off’ then they find it and toss the tag, voila. That will teach you for trying to be a stalker. Basically, Apple has decided to lump all their customers into the creeper category when actually they just want to secure their own property or keep their kids or pets safe. In other words it’s worthless as a theft deterrent. Sorry but true. If someone honest finds it, a sticker printed with your name and number would work, the same.
@@sciencescripture True, that's how the service is SUPPOSED to work. But If the 'target' is an android user, or if the audio notifications are disabled physically, it's still usefull for criminals for specific attack vectors.
We'll know more in a couple weeks. Security researchers - and not us 'joe shmoes' on the internet, and youtubers - have just gotten access to them, hopefully they don't find any security concerns.
Thanks for bringing us some different and unique content on Airtags.
Thanks so much Danny!
Seeing Rene Ritchie smiling that bright - almost as he is hella proud to talk to Apple employees - puts a smile in my face too
Does the fact that you can put an airtag on an android user and stalk them without them know make you smile, like me?
@@lytrell1326 uh - not exactly
I'm impressed by Ron that he knows a lot about Rene's prior works, including his podcasts.
I had to work hard not to show my surprise at that!
😃 Hey us Fruit Company employees can be fans too.
@@ReneRitchie How do we secure AirTags so they can’t be removed, like on a bicycle?
Definitely. Aside from being actual viewers/listeners, I’d consider it negligent if product marketing did not include this type of information when preparing product development for interviews. (The specificity here definitely implies Ron is a traditional listener.)
@@ReneRitchie I notice a very split second second surprise, shocked, delighted and being validated emotion but overall you kept that poker face.
"Track husbands" 😆
Great interview!
Ha! Thank you!
if husband had iPhone NO NEED to airtags !
If he has an android he’ll never know he’s getting tracked
Great video!!! So pumped for AirTags!
Appreciate you Jenna!
@@leandre260 Justine did it gaha
It's strange how rare it is for tech tubers to interview the people who are part of the team who designed and engineered the device. This is awesome!
Can we just talk about how good kaiann got in Interviews. There was an interview about the iPhone 12 and she just talked about what we already knew but this is actually pretty good and her talking skills got a glow-up I guess haha
"Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Airtags but Were Afraid to Ask." Well done Rene! Thank you. 👏👍
Ehhh, she didn’t say that unwanted tracking of android users wouldn’t happen.
0:42 I want a 1 hour version of Rene doing that to a beat.
Like the cat vibing meme
Can we take a moment to just appreciate the quality of this video? I’ve noticed with video calls, varying audio quality and multiple faces can be really distracting. I love how cohesive the editing is. Great content!
Thanks so much!
iDropNews has the right definition for this device: "AirTags are not intended to be anti-theft devices. An AirTag is designed to be attached to an item you’ve misplaced, not one that’s been taken by somebody else."
I loved the Craig Federighi cameo in the beginning. Missed him at the event.
Smart questions! Congrats on getting such a high profile interview. Very informational as well!
Man, your channel is taking off!!! Outstanding interview with apple's big wigs! I've been a long time subscriber and really appreciate all of your thoughtful videos. Thanks and congrats!
Well done Rene, so beautifully presented and integrated - we knew most of this before but still watching the human interaction and Q&A made it great 😊
Rene, your videos are always entertaining and packed full of insight, but this one in particular... I have to complement you on the production quality. Kudos, keep up the great work!
This might be your best video yet - very thorough, informative and two great interviewees who didn’t just spew compare talk. Great work Renee.
Nice work Rene. Lots of great stuff in here 💪🏽
Always the best tech coverage. Thank you!
Absolutely great video. Thanks Rene (+Kaiann and Ron)!
This is one of the coolest product videos I’ve seen in the Apple universe. The questions are relevant and interesting, and the communication is crystal clear. I love there’s enough content for the geek in me but also the bottom line application for my end-user mind as well. I’m ordering the four pack. Kudos!
Really enjoyed this video and also getting an interview with apple was amazing! Thank you for the great content :D
This is so nice! Great video! and kudos to apple for stretching out their interviews to youtube 👏🏽
Loved this. Cheers Rene. Good job 👍🏾
This 👏is👏 what 👏I’m👏here👏for👏. Renee this was a SLAM DUNK for information. It literally answered all my questions.
You remain the very best in covering all things Apple. This interview is next level.
Great video, as always!
Super Interview. Thanks!
Awesome video! Just got my 4 engravings!
👀 Great interviews. Blessings on your day 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Rene!
OK -- this level of access to Apple is amazing. Great interview.
i love kaiann so much 😿❣️
I bought a tile 4 pack a few years back. Only got one to work. Look forward to this.
Ren Ritchie, deine Videos, der Inhalt, die Präsentation und Sprache sind wunderbar. Zu wenige folgen dir 🤷♂️
Love this
Great interview Rene!
If I want to find my iPhone with the precision of air tag, do I have to attach an air tag to it, or will the U1 chip allow that in a software update?
Great video!
the quality of this zoom meeting is much higher than my daily status meetings
Great interview
Is it worth having these if I don’t have an iPhone 11 or 12? I realize that the Airtag will still work with Find My on my Xr, but is the tracking capability a go/no-go feature?
My AirTags were just delivered and these are awesome! I purchased the 4 and setup one inside my car, wallet, keys and kayak!. Super easy setup and I really like the hide n' seek search feature.
Thank you for this video!! Privacy is apples number 1 priority and as always: “your my number one customer!” Rene after the interview: yeah baby!!!! Tim cruise here we come!
Great seing this awesome video 🔥🔥🔥
Good interview, one question: in case of losing the iPhone will I be able to pair the tag with a new iPhone?
QUEEN KAIANN
Rene, question. Will these tags work if one is placed inside an RFID case. Would be super useful if I can have one inside my hard credit card case, but its RFID protected.
Fantastic, Rene
I’ve always wonder what happens when I slip an airtag into my check-in luggage. What happens when it goes around the airport luggage roller coaster, airplane cargo, etc...
I’ve done that with my Tile trackers. They disappear for a while but then show back up while I’m in the plane and they are in the luggage compartment. Gives me some peace of mind that my luggage made it on board.
It would start to chirp after a while if you didn't suppress that?
@@ReneRitchie Not with Tile. Tile doesn’t make a sound unless you instruct it to. But I can see that it is within Bluetooth range after it’s loaded on the plane.
@@ReneRitchie only after 3 days, no?
@@ReneRitchie I'm also concerned about what happens when I'm not on plane yet with my luggage. Like what happens when my suitcase is being lugged around by a ground crew that happens to have an iPhone and he suppresses the AirTag because its 'following' him around. But I guess from 6:30 someone's iPhone won't notify them that they're being unwanted-ly tracked by my AirTags just because it happens to be riding along with them. My motivation of putting AirTags in my suitcase is more for what happens before/after the airport experience, but I just don't feel like taking it out and putting back in before/after I check in my luggage.
I guess the tldr question becomes how does AirTags/your iPhone/Apple differentiate between unwanted tracking and the thing just happens to be riding along with you.
Anyways, I'm still excited in getting them and slipping them in my suitcases when I travel
Love you got to interview them. I'm sure there are limits on what you could ask but a joke about duct taping one to the new apple remote then pausing to see how they react would have been super subtle :P
How well are these for helping against theft???? Like if it goes into lost mode, will it still do the three day beeping thing?? Or offer the iPhone/nfc message???
Great interview though Rene!!!!
Nice interview
I’m ordering this day 1. I’m thinking great for Christmas presents as well as personal use.
Are you going to put an air tag on your Christmas present, return it somehow, all in order to find Santa Claus?
If I ever go back to the office I’m putting a tag on my yogurt. I know Melissa was taking my yogurt every damn day! IM WATCHING YOU MELLISSA.
Do you happen to know if they were using a new iMac webcam for this shoot!? Haha! Amazing video Rene and congrats on landing this great interview. I am so stoked about the future of Find My.
If it was like MKBHD’s interviews in the past they use iPhones for their web calls like this. Definitely has an iPhone look.
@@impatrickt Ya it's got that iPhone 12 Pro Max look
Awesome videos sorry I’m sooo late
I totally plan to buy a pack of these. Excellent idea, and a lot more attractive than Tile (that I’ve seen). Any time I drop a car off for service for example, leave one somewhere unobtrusive in the car to make sure they don’t go on joyrides. Other than that, find my keys, find my backpack, and find my other crap.
Great video! But does anyone know the range?
You didn't ask about the lack of an air tag in the Apple TV remote! ;-)
Are you able to share an AirTag, ie if I put one on the dog could it show up in both mine and the wife’s find my?
I need the precision tracking in the apple tv remote and my airports case lol
Thanks for showing us so much details about the Airtag. Can anyone answer this: What if the airtag is laying around for a couple days without being connected to the owners device - would it make a beeping-noise just when it gets moved, or does the Airtag beep without being moved?
I signed up CuriosityStream using your code. Thank you.
CanAir Tags still be used properly with older iPhones (ie. iPhone X and lower). I keep hearing I need the U1 chip (ie. iPhone 11 and higher), but do I really?
just wanna know wither an iPhone user without a u1 chip and an iwatch 6 can use precision tracking through the watch???? as the only watch which has a u1 chip is Iwatch 6
If it can be read by NFC does that mean it can also trigger Shortcuts?
I hope all this software ends up working well, it seems like some of these privacy features may be obnoxious. The tracker beeping when its unattended seems too extensive, but I think i may be mistaken.
Will there be a airtag app for Apple Watch?
So if I lose an item with an Airtag on it and other iphones are around, do those iPhones automatically pick up the Airtag's signal and send the location to the FindMy network without the owners even knowing it's happening? Or does someone have to pick up the Airtag, bring it close to their phone and voluntarily choose to send its location to the FindMy network?
I still don't understand how you get notified when your AirTag is out of reach? Do you have to check manually in the app?
So when someone steals your stuff with an airtag... they will get a notification how they can disable it and activate a sound to find it. Good job👍🏻
Great to get more info on the Air Tags.
You couldn't have cut Georgia into this conversation though? She's been excited about these things for so long she'd have loads to ask.
#❤️ the video.., Just out of curiosity do Apple employees use office 365 (what percentage ? ) if at all 🤷🏻♂️
You really asked Apple about tracking husbands with Airtags 😂
Does air tags work with iPhone 7 Plus
How soon before we can get FindMy support for our Apple Pencils or remotes? :-)
I have 2 iphones (work and private) with different icloud accounts. Is my work phone will be keep showing message ?
I’d like to have one for car, not that i loose it often in a car park sometimes, but if it gets stolen etc
How do you even get these awesome interviews!? :)
Hard work for many years.
Hmm, I think you misnamed this. It should be “Apple answers THEIR questions about the new AirTags.” There are so many interesting questions I would like answered like “It appears that a great deal of thought went into privacy, but at the expense of using these to keep someone from stealing your stuff, unlike with your iPhone, have you thought about that?” Or - can you remove your iPhone or device from the FindMy network or how close to other devices does this need to be in order for it to work, etc. etc.
- Does AirTag measure voltage of CR2032 battery to give battery indicator that IS NOT BASED ON TIME like on Tiles?
- When a lost AirTag is discovered by someone’s iPhone does it try to employ UWB to pinpoint its’ location exactly?
- What’s the max BT distance at a line of sightr for AirTag?
- Can Apple Watch directly connect to AirTag?
Etc
I'm DEFINITELY getting one for my keys!😂
Im actually worried about one thing, if you put your AirTag on your luggage, and you go to an airport, didnt airports banned to have or use BT devices, since AirTag is constantly active, plus there is CR battery inside witch is also not allowed into a airplanes?
So i want airtags on both sets of car keys as we both drive both cars will this create a problem, can they be on family sharing so that one of us doesn’t get alerted when the other is driving a car? Can’t seem to get this answered on the net yet. Same with the sets of house keys.
Kaiann is so awesome I love that woman.
There was a nfc button in the control centre when i installed ios 14. Yes that looked cool. But I accidentally removed that button from the control centre settings and now I’ve no options to add that again. Please get me that back.
I’m using it for a few things: my stethoscope. My blood pressure cuff that i keep in my bag so I will keep track of bag, too. My wallet. My keys.
All things that can be easily misplaced.
This is a great idea! I’m a med student and I’d hate to lose my brand new littman 😅
hopefully they up the limit from 16 if that includes 3rd party devices too
The awkward head nodding in between questions made me laugh
His interviews always look edited. As in what we are seeing isn’t the actual interview. At least his part. If your interviewing someone you don’t look to the side and down look at the people working for apple and him it looks botched and the clips seem to be there to try and trick our mind that he’s there doing the interview in that room with those short questions that some how get a well rounded response from the apple workers.
I honestly think he should do what others do which is place all screens so we can see all of them at the same time but aesthetics I guess lmao 😂
Really not trying to hate but every interview I’ve seen it’s done like this and the edits to him nodding is what makes it look so bleh and staged notice how it’s 12 min this could have been aimed up in less time
most concern question, will the airtag alert my neighbour if i leave home for over 8 hours? do i have to bring all airtags traveling with me all the time?
Do you know if the airtags will be available in Belgium (Europe), because the HomePod mini isn’t available jet here.
The launches are completely separate, and the HomePod isn’t launched in most European countries due to the lower sophistication of Siri in our local languages. Airtag drop dates should be easily found on your local apple website.
I think this will be great for people with low vision and Blind.
I just need to ask about theft, if a person steals your “jacket” or whatever and it has an airtag , will the thief be able to disarm the airtag if they have an iPhone also ?
What if it’s in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone signal, will an iPhone remember the gps location and then send it when it gets back online?
Aren't you the iMore guy? Amazing guests!
I'm gonna put an AirTag on my cat. He doesn't leave the house, but he's a door runner. I'm glad the AirTags are water and dust resistant. Can't wait for more products on the Find My network.
Considering these are fairly large and designed to be with keys and other things, I wish the tag was also a button so that you can use it to control one or more homekit devices when with the linked phone. Ie. Garage door, lights, etc
if you want to track students on a field trip, for instance, 16 tags per phone is limiting. Hope that limit increases, prolly lots of use cases for >16 tags
Great video! It’s very cool to see the executives in this type of content. Do you think Kaiann and Ron were both using M1 iMacs for this call? If so the video looked really nice
iPhone 12 would be my guess, what do you think?
@@ReneRitchie I was thinking the whole time that they were using an M1 iMac and the new camera and mics are just that good
I just want to know what happens if either A.) my airtag is in my backpack etc & I leave it somewhere & somebody picks up my backpack & the airtag alerts the person that has my bag that they’re ‘ being followed’ & they just deactivate my airtag does that not defeat the purpose of the airtag ? Or B.) I lose my keys & somebody sees the airtag & just simply removes it does that not also defeat the purpose ? Generally curious about both scenarios
