Crystal guardians is a rogue-like tower defense game where you need to defend your base crystal on an expanding procedural generated battlefield. Gain a strategic advantage using the many towers + crystal combinations and unique item combinations stored in those towers. Make use of the expanding battlefield by placing towers on strategic position for maximal damage to the enemies.

As a critique... if anyone can get the attn of the dev, I cannot see the path. I am colorblind. the path being orange? and environment green is bad choice. Please make the path concrete grey or something. Also, the colors are very bad for me personally. I cannot really tell heights from them either. The vertical sides and the top are not different enough. 1 in 12 men are colorblind. Good idea to build your games with that in mind. :)
Hey developer here, I've put this on my to-do list for one of the upcoming updates!
@@TimGDev That's great!! :) cant wait to play
even as a person without colourblindness, the shaded path has a similar colour to the grass, so yeah I bet it's kinda difficult to see for you :/
@@TimGDevHmm maybe put crystal selection in the tower menu since sometimes people might forget to put the crystal in after placing the tower. Also something abt these games is that there isn't much incentive to build towers outside of the starting area .... Maybe a small change which can be unlocked/increased from meta progression where a special pedestal which allows maybe cost free building of towers or half or a third of the cost or maybe some other buffs
@@TimGDeveasy fix would probably be to implement a colour blind mode in the settings. Maybe even for different colour blindness. Might be less work than re-designing the entire colour pallet.
Props to you for engaging with the community, game looks great, gonna give the demo a go later tonight! 🤘
You should know there are already actually "crazy" builds that can really change towers into something crazy. But you will unlock them once you beat normal mode. On some rare items when you hover you see an "Item recipe" if you complete that recipe on a single tower (which can be difficult) you can get a very unique tower!
Great game. Looks amazing.
Also, I'm completely speechless. Whenever I see something odd in a game, I always try to interact with it.
How it took Wander 20+ minutes to interact with the big glowing cubes is completely beyond me.
A pretty common Wander thing to miss on stuff like that. Probably comes with focusing on talking and providing entertainment rather than fully focusing on the game.
Thank you for this, good to know it wasnt just me. I was yelling since the first cube popped up. It kept grabbing my attention 😅😅
A very Wander thing from my relatively short time following. Other streamers too though. I think when you play a bunch of different games all day every day you stop sweating like half of the tryhard details, especially if you seem to be winning/progressing already anyway...
I Agree people naturally good at games can afford to miss things. I on the other hand stress about every detail and still suck. I buy these games thinking ill have a similar outcome/playthrough only to find myself getting rekt. Lol
I just read the handbook, took 10 sec. lol.
Discovered this game recently and hold fastest completion time in both gamemodes! Who can beat me?!
Game seems like a good Rogue Tower successor but I find it visually less appealing. Might be a combination of more bloom/glow/shadows/etc everywhere as opposed to Rogue Tower's very simple clean design, and also the towers themselves (and to some degree the enemies) don't seem to vary much visually aside from minor things, whereas in Rogue Tower every tower looked extremely visually distinct, and even the enemies felt very easy to discern.
Gameplay wise this definitely looks great, but I find myself having more trouble differentiating things and knowing what's happening at a glance
Man, the amount of times your mouse was right over the blue item/white item that sat around for like 15 waves was making me scream at the screen. Lol. Not trying to troll, it's easy to miss things when you are staring at a tower placement/upgrades, still infuriates me :P
Any successor to rogue tower is a better game, rogue tower dev sucks
True
I mean, the fact that it stores the save data in registry data, rather than actual local files, says enough about the game(rogue tower)
Watching you treat the glowing item cubes like ambient lighting hurt.
The soul towers seemed to give items when they had gathered enough souls, probably a good strategy to place the towers around those to get even more items?
I think those cubes are item pickups. Edit: Just tried game my self yes they are item pick ups!
I kept waiting for him to try to pick them up, lol. I was thinking that myself the entire time. Maybe a pop up when you discover the first one telling you to click it.
@@Firsona Yeah me 2 oddly the game never tells you not even in the tutorial, I just quickly downloaded it to try it out myself on steam. When u click a cube it gives you a prerolled item of the same color rarity otherwise you earn random items from creeps that you can roll on click or roll all of them at once by clicking the chest icon.
Loving the look of this. Rogue tower started out so well, and the Dev just drove it to the ground. Really excited if we can have something decent, with a modicum of balance, and maybe some actual content! Excited to check out a Great video!
Can you move the tower menu's? I think it would drive me insane to have to move my cursor over the screen 5 times every time i want to put some items in a tower...
The micro management of the items in general seems kind of much honestly.
Other than that, seems like a fun game :)
Edit: This comment was written before he finds out he can just shift+click the items.
I don't even need to shift click, just having a tower selected and choosing each item moves it instantly. You can also stack all the same items in your inventory which i am very happy about lol.
Can we just acknowledge the absolute bop of an soundtrack?
I'm so glad it is (and hopefully will remain) RUclips safe. They're some seriously good songs.
40 seconds in and I'm already sold. Thanks for showing me such cool new games I would never know about otherwise!
I saw there was an indicator for Tower Level Upgrade available but it went away quickly. I think this is needed for many other things like picking up those spawned crystals, if you still need to place a crystal in a tower etc and instead of disappearing completely it should change to just a bouncing arrow indicating that something is still pending/outstanding.
the equipment slots on the towers seems like a really fun way to customize the towers.
22:21 Not a fan of the constant screen-shake from the earthquake perk, and especially not a fan of it keeping it up even when there are no enemies around.
Are the graphics on this game supposed to look fuzzy or out of focus? Looks like a good game and all, but that hurts my eyes. I couldn't even get past 6 min of this video because its giving me a headache.
Need to utilize more towers that slow enemies around places where they are being hit by your best towers. Best towers need to have maximum coverage of roads.
Stacked items: When you stack the same item in your inventory you CAN put the stack in ONE item-slot.
PLEEEASE PLAY THIS MORE
Pseudo-Gemcraft plus Rogue Tower is a potent combination.
Looks pretty good so far. If I had to nitpick, it's a lot harder to tell what's happening on the field compared to Rogue Tower. In RT you could tell at a glance which tower was which; here they all look a bit the same. Same is true for enemies.
Also it might be a bit too easy at the moment. You almost got to the end despite having almost no upgrades unlocked, doing a lot of experimenting AND with 20K gold sitting in the bank. Putting down half a dozen more towers would probably have been enough to beat the game - or more likely unlock the next difficulty.
Is there a range limit for placing towers? If the DOTs never come off enemies, it may be worth having one tower that strictly does dots way at the end where the enemies are first spawning in. Soften them up a shitton
I noticed in the Intro Video that plays while your idle in the menu it shows you can drag stacks of items instead of them taking up multiple slots... is that old footage and not a thing or is the shift clicking to add items not coded properly or is Wander just doing something incorrectly ?
Yes that is old footage indeed, I will change it soon to more up to date footage!
I've been trying to 100% Rogue Tower, and it's a chore sometimes. I have mods, but something a little more... elegant would be nice. It almost feels like the RT developer left the game like 90% done.
oh wow, this looks completely different than it does on my PC. On my machine none of the shooting effects are there, the enemies just slowly die. I thought it was the worst game ever, until I saw what it's supposed to look like 😀
try the EmberWard demo. I just grabbed it yesterday, now I can't wait for the full game to release! It's a really fun tower game.
The game looks interesting. So it is a tower defense game with an ever expanding terrain that shifts around where enemies spawn? Sounds fun!
From my observation one of your problems can be that too much gold is being hoarded and not enough tower's on ground.
didnt start realy winning till i got the slow from the progression tree then again it was the 2nd part of the tree, I kinda did what you did and did crit first which i feel was a mistake.
its crazy to me that people like tower defense games, why do you want to watch a game play?
A great find. After loosing my mind achievement hunting in Rogue Tower, this is a breath of fresh air. The loot system to customize the simpler towers feels better than the card draw system of RT, and it feels really satisfying getting a couple solid towers supported by basic towers without gear. My main complaint with the game so far when it comes to replayability is that it feels like the rain and lightning towers are so OP it makes the other three tower bases feel obsolete once you have them. Still, getting the right item synergies on the right towers (once you've unlocked all the basic tower/crystal types) can feel really satisfying.
The progression page could do with a search function for keywords, nice quality of life spot.
Your minimalist style of play gives me high anxiety…. Thanks for showing off the game. And I agree rogue tower and this are alike not the same. Things were fixed in this version.
finally someone made a TD with this this kind of modular design!
i had a very similar idea for TD game for years and finally someone else turned it into a game.
well, my idea was to have a flat ground and have towers have a pattern of totems or something around them, that block building tiles depending on the tower type and give slots for the modifying items.
and i also had a similar idea where the towers grow with each modifier you slot into, with every five or so slots filled an extra gun slot is added. that idea would require a more 3D environment though, to really make good use of the tower growth.
Hello
Seems very Rogue Tower -esque, and that game slapped so I'm all for this.
This looks awesome.
the placing crystals on tower bases sounds exactly like you do in the GemCraft games
i struggle to find more videos for this game, I hope to see more of it on your channel
thanks Wander!
Are you playing some different version of the game not available to others? I've tried the game and its completely different, had 0 fun with it, nothing at all like shown. Items don't really drop and I had to buy every item for insane prices, with each item being basically 1/5th of an item you got, so to get an equivalent of an item that you had, I had to spend ~1k gold for an item (stacking it 5 times, ~200g per item - with 6 item slots that's ~6k gold for just one tower). And with towers costing ~500 per piece even in early game, its just not good.
Hey you might have played the demo that I released a while back, after having read this comment I disabled the demo so you can no longer download it. Sorry for the confusion but you should download the Crystal Guardians prologue for the latest version! Sorry again!
@@TimGDev Aaah I see. I did choose to download from the main steam page rather than the prologue page, figured it would DL the prologue either way. Thanks for letting us know!
I hate hipocrysy of people: It's AI art it's stealing, unmoral and harmful to creators. VERSUS It's and Indie clone, meh it's fine, don't mind ripping of hundred hours of thinking, tinkering and polishing the mechanics to came up with the original idea.
