Nice video! Here's my personal list: 1. Black Rose 2. Bad Reputation 3. Jailbreak 4. Fighting 5. Johny the Fox 6. Renegade 7. Vegabonds 8. Thunder and Lightning 9. Nightlife 10. Chinatown 11. Thin Lizzy 12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Very cool! The best Lizzy slab o’ wax would of course be the mighty Live and Dangerous but as far as studio albums go this would be my list; 1. Bad Reputation 2. Black Rose 3. Johnny The Fox 4. Renegade 5. Jailbreak 6. Fighting 7. Vagabonds 8. Thin Lizzy 9. Thunder And Lightning 10. Chinatown 11. Nightlife 12. Shades Of A Blue Orphanage
1. Thunder and Lightning (1983) 2. Johnny The Fox (1976) 3. Jailbreak (1976) 4. Bad Reputation (1977) 5. Black Rose (1979) 6. Renegade (1981) 7. Fighting (1975) 8. Chinatown (1980) 9. Vagabonds of The Western World (1973) 10. Nightlife (1974) 11. Thin Lizzy (1971) 12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972)
Glad to hear Brian Downey get a shoutout. Next to Philthy Animal Taylor from Motörhead, he's my favourite rock drummer. I prefer him even to guys like Bonham and Moon.
1.Fighting. 2.Jailbreak. 3.Chinatown. 4. Bad reputation 5. Renegade. 6. Black Rose. 7. Johnny the fox. 8.Nightlife. 9 Vagabond 10. Thunder and lightning. 11. Shade of the blue orphanage. 12 Thin Lizzy
Fighting is probably my number 1. However, I think the chorus could have been better. Not sure about "FIGHTIN'! Can sound a bit cheesy. Especially to non-fans. What do you think Bob?
Nicely put together! You can guarantee that there won’t be two rankings the same but Jailbreak will be #1 in many lists. There were more songs from it on Live & Dangerous than the two albums which followed and it’s hard to argue against it being Lizzy’s best. Personally, I’m a big fan of Nightlife and the later albums, which others often rank lower.
Probably one of my more favorite hard rock bands, really good ranking! 1. Black Rose: A Rock Legend (1979) 2. Jailbreak (1976) 3. Thin Lizzy (1971) 4. Johnny the Fox (1976) 5. Thunder and Lightning (1983) 6. Fighting (1975) 7. Vagabonds of the Western World (1973) 8. Bad Reputation (1977) 9. Renegade (1981) 10. Chinatown (1980) 11. Night Life (1974) 12. Shades of Blue Orphanage (1972)
Great list! Clearly you’ve spun each of these albums more than once. Indeed there is such a rich tapestry of material from this most unique and exotic rock n roll band! ♥️♠️♦️♣️
12. THIN LIZZY 11. SHADES 10. VAGABOND 9. NIGHTLIFE 8. FIGHTING 7. CHINATOWN 6. RENEGADE 5. THUNDER AND LIGHTING 4.JOHNNY THE FOX 3. BLACK ROSE 2 JAILBREAK 1. BAD REPUTATION
I mostly agreed with the list, especially the top 6. I think that's the easy part. After that is where it gets tricky! The bottom 2 are correct but in contrast I would rank for #10 Renegade #9 Chinatown #8 Nightlife #7 Vagabonds. For me, Renegade has too many tracks which are not good enough to be credited to the Thin Lizzy name (Fats, Nobody Told Him, Mexican Blood and It's Getting Dangerous), probably should've been held back for solo LP's or B-sides. But obviously at that moment in time, the band was in very bad shape and didn't care enough. This was reflected in the poor album sales and reduced concert attendances, which then forced them into calling it a day following the next LP/tour. That being said, I'm not a big fan of Chinatown either, so no real issue with that and Renegade being interchangeable. But Nightlife has far greater songs than either LP (Still In Love With You, Sha La La, It's Only Money, Philomena, Showdown). Same with Vagabonds.
I tend to listen to them in clumps of 71-73, 74-77, 79-83 and don't rank them because they are three very different periods with three dinstcly different vibes and line ups. That said I copped a NM OG copy of Shades (I personally love that lp) recently while in Japan, that album in its first pressing is much better than the CD I have listened to for 30 yrs...Also a nice OG copy of Johnny The Fox.
Thank you for watching and commenting! Yeah, you make a very good point regarding the different periods of the band. That's amazing regarding your finds, congrats! I love finding hidden gems like that!
I guess my personal top 10 would be 1. Black Rose 2. Bad Reputation 3. Jailbreak 4. Chinatown 5. Renegade 6. Johnny The Fox 7. Thunder And Lightning 8. Fighting 9. Nightlife 10. Vagabonds of the western world
I agree with most of these rankings! But it’s not easy to rank these since so little sets them apart (all are good). I would put “Renegade” higher than this and higher than many people do. Renegade has a few tracks that hit me on a personal level with some lyrics that mirrored where my head was when it came out.
Thank you for watching and couldn't agree more! They're all good! I can totally understand about Renegade, I know personally there are albums that most people agree aren't good, however, hit me harder for whatever reason.
All a matter of personal opinion...which we all are entitled to of course...I'm a die hard Lizzy lynott nutter and I love em all.🎶🎸🍀♥️ RIP PHILO AND GARY.🎸🍀
What blows my mind still is that after having two firebrands in Robbo and Gary Moore, Lizzy go down the route of not have a hot guitar player in Snowy White, a glorified session / blues player with very little in the way of rock guitar player charisma. It's no wonder the fan base fragmented circa 1980. Chinatown sounds like a bunch of demos with no direction, while Renegade is utterly sedate sounding and radically unfocused. Sykes re-energised the band, but it was a bit too late. If only he was on the scene say early 1980, or if Phil was not star struck by the fact that White had played with Pink Floyd and focused on what the band needed which was a real good guitarist because at the time, Rhodes, Lynch, Jake E Lee, Viv Campbell and Sykes etc were making huge waves
Thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, I agree with everything you say. I love Snowy White, however, his style doesn't quite fit in with Thin Lizzy.
I love both the Chinatown and Renegade albums and listen to them all the time. When I first heard them I thought they were a major step back. However after repeated listenings they have grown on me and I consider them essential classics. They are better than Presence and In Through The Out Door IMO
The top five are interchangeable - joint #1’s really. Had ‘Rosalie’ or another track gone as big as ‘Boys,’ I think ‘Fighting’ would be much better known than it is. But if I had to rank them: 1. Bad Reputation 2. Black Rose 3. Fighting 4. Jailbreak 5. Thunder and Lightning 6. Renegade 7. Johnny The Fox 8. Chinatown 9. Vagabonds of The Western World 10. Nightlife 11. Thin Lizzy 12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Totally in agreement with your listing Dissappointed that this American reviewer rightfully states that there were tracks as great as jailbreak and the boys are back ....but then ranks jailbreak no1. Jailbreak was the money album but bad reputation and black rose was lizzy at their best. Fighting is very underrated and hints at later albums such as China town and thunder and lightning. Bad reputation I place at no1 but got to give it up and the title track from black rose are in my opinion their best tracks
Nice video!

@@Starman-zi9tl Renegade is amazing!
All brilliant in there own right🎶🎸
Glad to hear Brian Downey get a shoutout. Next to Philthy Animal Taylor from Motörhead, he's my favourite rock drummer. I prefer him even to guys like Bonham and Moon.
Thank you for commenting, I couldn't agree more!!
'Bad Reputation' is a great Downey showcase. 'Here the drummer get wicked'! Buddy Rich...eat your heart out!
What do you like about his sound and playing?
Downey always swing. I think is one the best rock drummer of the 70's and 80's. Top 5 for sure.
'Jailbreak' had the best track list but, production wise, 'Bad Reputation' , 'Black Rose' & even 'Renegade' sound better.
Great point and totally agree

Jailbreak and Fighting are my two favourites but I actually like all of their albums 😃 Vagabonds of the Western World is a fantastic album !
Right!? I wouldn't say I disliked any of their albums. Vagabonds is a great album! Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thank you for watching and commenting! Nightlife is a good album. They really didn't make any truly bad albums imo.

Thank you for watching and commenting! The track Chinatown is one of my all time favorites of theirs.

It ‘never’ ceases to amaze me.

You have the right 5 albums in the top five... I would have put "renagde" bottom and "vagabonds" higher

i love em all
Amen to that!!
not suprised at no. 1
lol yup, no surprise there!
Johnny the Fox and bad reputation over Thunder and Lightning??!
LOL yes... just my stupid opinion, not fact. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Of course Jailbreak had to be #1.
