Do give a thought to supporting such ventures, to cover operational and production costs that bring high-quality work to you. The minimum amount is set to Rs 100 by default. Anything more is your discretion.
MOPA presents Season 2 of Notes to Myself. Episode 1 of this Season features the famed Bharatanatyam duo Shanta and VP Dhananjayan, amongst the most accomplished performers and teachers of this art form. From their adolescent entry into Kalakshetra, years of intense training with renowned teachers, to setting up Bharata Kalanjali and decades of touring, performing and teaching, theirs has been an odyssey generously dotted with adventures, achievements and pitfalls.
They are as much a power house of knowledge and experience as they are spontaneous in their enthusiasm and energy for any new ideas. They have seen it all - from classical dance to ad films to movies, but what is remarkable is that they have retained their child-like zest and zeal for life. Theirs is a beautiful story of togetherness in art and life.
Notes to Myself is one of MOPA's flagship projects - a series of interactive, expository documentaries that deconstructs the lives and creative processes of some of the most impactful professionals associated with South India's performing arts. Done in a let-your-hair-down and from-the-heart way, these offer an honest, moving and at times funny and charmingly unguarded look at the lives of these artistes.

This couple was a hidden treasure now brought into the limelight. Their down to earth attitude is a reflection of their simplicity and humility despite reaching heights. The choice of words and tone just reflects their refined personality. Although they don't need recognition from our government, I hope they get the right one as it could be long due for this couple has been spreading Indian art across the globe since the '70s. Rare to find an apt couple like them in the art industry. Legend pair of this era!
I enjoyed thoroughly every bit of this video that was well captured with mild and apt music.

This is a beautiful look into the lives of two outstanding artists, outstanding people! I knew them from the time they were the stars on the Kalakshetra stage, moved on with them when they set up BHARATA KALANJALI in Shastrinagar, proudly becoming their first "Arangetrami"! Their families became mine, especially after I married Kunhiraman. What fun we had in those early years! Joining with so many great artists in performances. Those early years were truly the struggle they describe here. I love how photos and short film clips have been introduced, overlaying with the candid storytelling of their journey. They have had a blessed artistic life, survived surprising challenges, moved gracefully into old age. What a lesson for the rest of us! I look forward to watching more of these interviews. I now see to the side of my screen that my friend Leela Samson has been interviewed. Wishing the producers the very best in producing these films with artistry and honesty. Good job!

How beautiful and candid! Common man can relate and listen to their life journey. Last 10 mins he just says the truth crudely. Great artists and humans.

I cannot believe they're in their late 70s and 80s. Their art must give them the energy and youthfulness. Loved everything about this episode. Their graceful demeanor, vivid descriptions, wise words...I could listen to them for hours.

I think this is one of the best interviews I have seen on RUclips. Whenever I see Master and Akka perform or speak, it is a joy to the eyes and ears of the audience. Their meticulous way of speaking, the tone, the humor, the grace and more is what makes the dancing duo a remarkable and special one. I am fortunate to be a student of one of their first disciples, Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra and I feel so honored to have learnt the beautiful dance form of Bharata Natyam. The way Master and Akka described their journey from childhood to date is heartwarming. You just want to keep listening to them and never press the pause button! Due to my busy schedule, I had to watch this interview in bits and pieces, but this is one interview which could go on for hours and you would never feel disinterested. One will want to start learning Bharata Natyam after watching this interview. Once again, an extremely beautiful and detailed interview. It was a pleasure to watch it, Master and Akka. Thank you MOPA for conducting it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

This was such a deeply poignant and a heartwarming watch! The Dananjayans love for dance, life, their love for each other and how they shined through all of their struggles is what true life goals are about! I was deeply moved watching them both talk about their journey…so many valuables lessons- said and unsaid!
Mopa! You guys did it again! Thank you for this treasure indeed 🙏🏼♥️

I used to love their vodaphone commercial and used to watch each one with great interest. Then I didn't know who they were. Later I cane to know about their profession through some article in a magazine. Now, having watched this video, I love them even more. God bless them.🙏

absolutely spectacular documentary! the entire production presentation, editing, etc was in a class above most such documentaries. My fond feelings for them over the decades are reinforced with the additional context of their early years in Kalakshetra. How I wish you could have done this on Sanjukta & Raghunath Panigrahi if they had lived long enough.our guru, Kelucharan Mohapatra was well documented as he deserved, but not the Panigrahis.

A very interesting documentary. Shanta , seeing old pictures of yours reminds me of meeting you sometime mid 1960s in KL as you used to visit my parents who was then Editor in chief of Malayan Times. I was on then on visit to KL. I have been you taking classes in late Data Sambantan’s house.
We met briefly at Trivandrum with GIrija about six year back. Warm regards.

The woman in the front at 25:11 is my guru, Mythili Raghavan, she toured with Rukmini athai and the Dhananjayans extensively before she quit the troupe and I have heard so many stories of Shantha Akka from her. They have a mug full of Australian honey in that picture and we always chuckled, who drinks that much honey! But I suppose if you were in Rukmini Devi's troupe, she would ensure you burned at least 10 mugs worth of honey during a single rehearsal :) this is a lovely video!
