Corey shows us around his brand new his house - a building still in progress. The foundations were laid only last November but Corey pushed ahead and ensured that his fruit and vegetable garden was prepared and finished before the house, so he is already busy in the garden.Corey's wife Pim is harvesting unripe papayas to make Thai som tam salad.
Corey spent more than 20 years as a medic in the Australian military before relocating and starting his new profession as a schoolteacher at a local bi-lingual school in Chiang Rai.

Congratulations Corey, Hopefully the house is finished soon and you and your wife can relax a little and enjoy all the hard work mate
Best wishes from Tasmania
Great interview, very interesting story about the your building journey. Love seeing the updates on the building process. Can't wait to be the first visitor in your new home in April. You have done a great job in accomplishing these life goals and dreams.
Awesome
I enjoyed that and a nice guy Corey. We lived in CR and luckly still have a home there but move down south to one of the islands where we built a home. We moved because of education reasons because my son never settled in CR as he moved from Europe 3 years ago when he was 11 he loves the multi ethnic school here and has lots of friends. If I can give you a tip Corey put insulation on top of the suspended ceiling it will pay for it self in two years. We also put the foil in and the insulation and never use A/C. We love Phitsanulok always stay there on our trips North from Surat Thani and we will be back to live in CR soon....good luck with the rest of your build.
Thankyou..
Good luck Corey I am going through a similar stage my house in King Cobra village Khon Kaen will be finished in 4 weeks.😊
You've gotta have the outdoor kitchen for cooking the chillies. Interesting to see you used ACR blocks as most don't. They'll keep your house about 20% cooler than concrete blocks do. So much of that product used in Oz even commercial and industrial buildings. The Armstrong Family builders (USA) in Philippines are building magnificent homes with them. Good luck with it all Corey you deserve it mate. Bushyboy Oz.
After we've saved up a little more, the intention is to have an outdoor kitchen and entertainment area at the back..
Looks stunning mate! Love the bikes and the countryside
Thank you
Good chat....I love that part of Thailand too.
Good onya mate
Enjoy Thailand 👍
Thanks for your service 👍
Thankyou
Looks like a great location….and likely very cold during the winter months…living the dream!
It's a great location. and yes it does get cool in the cold season.... it's a nice change from the hot/ dry season!
Such an Interesting true blue Aussie and what a history he has! And sad history too...typical Aussie man loses it all from divorce againnnn..i wish him a peaceful happy life as he deserves! 60yrs old nahhhhh u look 48 to 52 max...😂23yrs of service bravo🎉❤
I need a hubby like him😂

@@coreyhill7124 i Heard 60 best clean out my ears...well pheeww the compliment still stands 🤣🤣best wishes to u thanks for sharing ur new life! And those papaya trees😋 amazinggggg
We will probably be planting more papaya trees a bit later towards the end of the hot season. I did learn though that Papaya trees really don't like to be watered every day, at this rate I think I might have to start my own channel.......😁@@lecannet
I am 38 :D
Nice chat, seems like a great bloke. The house will look fantastic when done
I think so too, and Corey has kindly agreed to do a follow up video after they move in
Thankyou, we're definitely looking forward to finally having a house called home...I'll follow up when the house is completed (around 3 weeks time)
A well questioned interview 👍
Very interesting when you sat down to talk with him at the end there. Seems like quite the character and hopefully he'll be living there come next month :)
Thanks. Yes, I'd like to go back in a couple of months after it's finished and they have moved in. A quick update.
Builder told us today that the house will be completely finished end of March...4 months ...
@@coreyhill7124That's great news Corey. Bet you're looking forward to the move. I's very much like to do a follow up video after you have settled in a little.
@@ancientbiker , I'm sure we can arrange that.
@@coreyhill7124Great, thanks Corey. And I'm sure the audience will be interested too.
Good on you mate if ever back in phitsanulok i would be good to meet you i live there we are just finishing new house in wang thong
We go through that way every now and then , possibly 23rd of April on our way to Hellfire Pass for ANZAC day
Wang thong is always amazing …love that location…
Land prices have risen quickly since the end of COVID-19. We purchased ten Rai of farmland NE of Chiang at 300,000 Baht (@ Rai) five years ago. The house with two ponds is built on a filled and walled section. When I lived (8 years) in Bangkok, I rode to Kanchanaburi for ANZAC Day every year!
I can imagine that the end of COVID also coincided with a wave of westerners looking to reorient their lives, and some of whom relocated to Thailand.
We bought the land at the beginning of covid and yes prices have shot up since!
Hi there, I think this is very interesting in the cost, could you please do the update once he finishes the project? Thanks in advance.
We'll have a better idea in a month or so when everything is wrapped up..
Will do!
Nice guy, giving a Thai lady a free house.
What do you mean by giving a Thai lady a free house?. We are married and both working and paying for the house, so as far as giving the "Thai Lady" a free house you couldn't be any further from the truth.
@@coreyhill7124 I meant it in the context of foreigners can't own land in Thailand, so the property is therefore owned by your wife. If the land is leased, that's different. Married or not, everybody's future is uncertain, been there, done it. But anyway, good luck and I hope things work out well for you.
I absolutely know and acknowledge what you are saying, however, I was once married to a woman in Australia and I thought I would be entitled to something, lost everything .......no difference where you go.. I don't like how people generalize Thai women like ..." oh watch out you have a Thai wife you can lose everything"...it happens everywhere.@@gorgeousthailand4748
Ok
dont be a dick....
How's a stinky tree used in "food"?
My wife uses it in, as she puts it, in "her food." I'm not sure of the actual names of the dishes but she boils the leaves down and adds them as an ingredient into the Thai dishes..
I guess that Thai people call cha- om has thorne. Eat fresh young tips dip with numprik or cook with eggs like omelette.
Leasehold or freehold?
That's a good question although I expect that the whole notion of leasehold and freehold is very much an Anglo Saxon / English law concept. I know that some foreigners in Thailand get around the restriction on foreigners owning land by leasing the rights to it for 30 or 60 years. But in this case the land was bought by Corey's Thai wife so I expect that she owns it outright (i.e. freehold).
I checked with Corey. As I thought it's 100% owned by his wife Pim. He had never heard of leasehold. I have a feeling that it's a leftover from feudal England.
@@ancientbiker Thanks for the reply.
@@ancientbiker Our house in Chiang Rai is also owned by my wife but there is a Usafruct on the Chanote that gives me the rights to live there till I die and can't be sold with out both our signatures . The land office in Mae Chan knew all about a Usafruct and no problem doing it.
@@ColinC33 this "Usafruct on the Chanote" thing seems like a really sensible idea. If I ever find myself in the same situation I am sure that is what I would want to do too. Minimises the downside to having only nominal and tenuous ownership of a house.
Oddly enough there is a window that transfers ownership of the land to the foreign spouse and that is upon death of the Thai partner, however even though you’ll own the land you cannot register it in name and as the law provides you’ll have one year as owner to sell or transfer the land to a Thai entity …
Yes, you are right, we have that in place already. Thanks
