As an expert on the game, the glitched landing you do is what happens when you bail before hitting the ground, which can be seen by the character flailing while falling, and hitting the roll button, which stands a bailed character up, as soon as you hit the ground. It doesn't count as a landing, which can be seen by the fact that the line score doesn't go up and will always reset to zero after.
