You made no mention or showed how you registered the new battery to the car, so the charging system would be calibrated correctly to the new battery? Why?
Great video, thank you!! PSA: If you replace the battery without leaving voltage on (e.g. with the tender), you will need to have it coded. Otherwise your new battery may not last long. It happened to my 991 after only four months or so :-(
Excellent video and perfect timing as our 991 battery died after 9 years (OEM), great tip to plug in the charger first. Note that the Porsche replacement battery is a 992 part number and is now a AGM.
Bosch has some good powerful batteries. That is what I have on mine. There might be a software reset to do using the obd testers or other device and I found that has to be done on Audi batteries and the computer adjusts the charging rates based on the condition of the battery. 911 unit is easy to do and even your auto club will put in a new one for no labour charge and just charge for the battery. Did that with an earlier model 997 many years ago.
Really nice video. Would have been good to show which dc plug you used to plug in the CTEK. I use the one by the passenger well where I normally plug in the CTEK to maintain the battery.
Very helpful video. Gave me the confidence to do it myself. Your dealer is cheap BTW. My dealer wanted to change me $850 to replace the original battery.
Great DIY video. Great camerawork and instruction. I have a 2013 991.1 C2S, and my battery is also cycling low and electrical “gremlins” are starting to appear as well. My Porsche dealer wants to charge me $900+ to replace. I’m definitely going DIY
Interesting I have a 2014 991 bought new same original battery. I do have the same exact tender as well. So in other words following your instructions re-coding the new battery is not required. I also have an 09 BMW (BRING MY WALLET) LOL and even if you hookup a tender to that car, you still have to have a shop re-code the new battery to the car, even though all the memory functions remained in tact.
Im about to change my original 10 year old battery on a'14 c2s. I think the factory oem battery lasted this long, maybe due to using the ctek battery tender 3 yrs ago, but lately after a overnight full charge, the voltage only read 12.3V so i decided to replace it, but my main concern was how to keep the electrical system alive during the exchange and i was surprised that can be done by just plugging in the battery tender to the cigarette lighter without using an aftermarket unit just for that purpose.
My CTEK has eyelets how can I use it so I don't loose memory when I am changing the battery? The CTEK eyelet cables are hard wired to the cables so it is easy to connect and disconnect when I am away during the winter.
Just a quick tip for everyone doing this solo, step into the frunk when lifting the battery. It's much easier to do this when standing in the trunk space, rather than reaching over the front of the car.
I still think the ecu has to be programmed. That is the major work at the dealership that takes about an hour to code. It will still work, but I was surprised how much stuff is programmed ie: stop/start etc. When Porsche hooks up the OBD11 they can see it has not been programed. I agree it is crazy expensive. Had a 14 Boxster that was $550 at Porsche North in Houston. Now I have a 17 991.2 and hope here in Arizona I may have to h=go to an independent dealer. Penske is only good if your car is under warranty.
I never saw the visual of you plug in the charger into the cigarette lighter you said it but your video would probably be better if it was shown or maybe I missed it…
I am facing this battery replacement issue with my '15 Boxster, everything looks the same, under the hood, I have a Porsche battery maintainer, so my question is...Are you absolutely sure that plugging in the battery maintainer during the battery exchange will keep all the 'codes' in tack? TY
I just wanted to grab the positive and wrap it in plastic since I had a tender on the car and it would be hot even if I removed the negative. You can do it either way as the car will still have power back fed through the tender
Can I use my CTEK MX5 5.0 as a tender (is the newest). Which one is the one used there? Another question: I need to take the battery out just for cleaning its lodging and than I need to put it in again. Can I use my tender? Thx
@@vitomecca82 Yes, your tender will hold memory while the battery is out. Make sure you cover the positive terminal with something non conductive like a plastic bad.
@@Fulloctanegarage Thank you! I tried just today for few minutes and the relees start to clicking. I need to have the battery away from its place for 24 hours in order to clean its lodging. Will it be ok?

If I am not correct, I think you have to have the system coded. The ECM has to know about battery and auto/stop function etc.

Had no idea about that air pump box, that alone was priceless...

This video was fantastic. Just replaced my 991.1 battery. The advice here was priceless!!!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback
I have just changed my battery following these instructions, thank you very much for the tips.
Glad it helped
1:25 AGM batteries are vented for safety reasons. That is why AGM or GEL batteries fall under VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) batteries.

Did you have to reset computer parameters for the new battery?
Great video. I’m a welder and I take my ring off all day every day. She still loves me. Cars hate rings and watches lol!
Thanks for this. Just swapped in an Antigravity using these instructions in my GT3 and it was cake thanks to your example.
Fantastic!

They really made the batteries so easy to change on these cars

Great job, good info, thanks very much.
sir what is the good ampere for thia car
It’s pretty crazy after a few decades the car industry isn’t shipping cars with light weight lithium 12v yet.
Just a quick tip for everyone doing this solo, step into the frunk when lifting the battery. It's much easier to do this when standing in the trunk space, rather than reaching over the front of the car.
Thanks guys, very helpful!
Doesn't the new battery need coding on piwis?
It did not for my situation.

It has been a few months and everything is still working fine after the swap, just make sure you keep aux power on and all will work fine.
Is it the same procedure for a 911 966 porsche
This is helpful. What is that clicking sound before you put in the new battery ? The sound seems stop after new battery is connected.
I accidentally hit the remote and the lights combined with the low output form the charger caused the clicking but we did not loose any memory.
You guys are awesome!!! Thank you !!
You rock!
tip.. negative and right after the positive.
good video.
very very useful ! Thank you

Awesome video. Thanks so much.
You didn’t program to register the new battery.
no need on my year and model.
The battery in the 991 is in an open area and is vented as a result.
Great video Sir! Was there any vent hose on the original battery?
Not that I recall

In BMWs there is a computer reset that needs to be done when a new battery is put in. Does this 991 need anything like that?
No reset needed as long as you keep a small amount of power on the car while changing out
just checking at 9:00 - positive first?

The Amazon linked battery is no longer available. Should the type of battery be non vented?
No they are lithium now in 2021
Programming required and error code.
We did not have to reprogram anything because we left voltage on the system using the battery tender.
Since you installed a new battery with a higher Ah rating, did you end up registering the battery using a diagnostic tester?
I installed a similar rating battery and did not have to register it.

no gloves?
Na, we still need to do a final buff.
The AGM batteries are sealed and do not leak.
