At the end part, instead of saying เรียนจากหนังสือ (learning from the books), i might add เอง ‘aeng’ emphasizing the action that im learning myself.. like เรียนเองจากหนังสือและอินเตอร์เน็ต .. Ali definitely sounds like a native. I think that's what language learners cannot quite get it easily by learning in their own countries, it's how to speak naturally. She do benefited from staying in Thailand. Paddy also did a good job on commenter role. You can point some flaws out from the speaker which is not easy for someone who's not native speakers.
I wish Thai people who study English (or other languages) feel as comfortable and confident as all of you. I have helped countless foreigners learning Thai. They can easily understand and communicate within a few months because they are not scared of making mistakes. They learn from them! P.S. Now, I’m suffering with French. Too many mistakes to learn! Hahahaha
There's a real "hump" to get over when starting learning French. I found people in France to be very patient helpful and friendly when I tried my terrible French there, totally the opposite of the stereotype. So if you have the chance to try talking with French people go for it!
I have heard that French was one of the most difficult languages to learn when you're Thai because the structure and grammar is so different, also even us French people suffer with our grammar sometimes so don't worry ! It's so great that you are learning many languages !!
Sawasdee khraap khum Pim I'm a French teacher living in CM. Don't hesitate to ask me for help and recommendations.. I'm kinda struggling learning Thai myself 555
Wow! What amazing language specimens. Fascinating to hear the influence of different provinces on some of the clips in there too - it's a really good cross section of language. As for to learn by oneself, one of the most common ways to say it would be เรียนด้วยตัวเอง / เรียนด้วยตนเอง or just เรียนเอง Great job Paddy.

Well done everyone, this video makes me feel so happy to listen to foreigners speak Thai, I know how hard to learn another language, I'm still learning English as much as I can every single day, I always nervous and make mistakes, especially, when I have to speak with a native language but mistakes make perfect!
Wowww! They all speak good Thai 💚 Impressive. You also did an amazing job, Paddy! It's amazing how familiar and adept you are in Thai language 💚 Really inspiring! Waiting for part 2 🙏
I never thought speaking thai could be so much fun. Listening to everyone makes me adore thailand even more. The thais are always so friendly and easy going and I pick that up in the language. Another great video
Ok, after seeing this video I really need to up my game on learning Thai. I am totally blown away by all these folks and feel somewhat embarrassed about not putting more effort in learning Thai. I have lived in Thailand for almost three years, I understand more then I can speak. My Thai wife speaks english which is my excuse for not learning Thai, but now I feel really inspired. Paddy, thanks for your time and effort, love your videos!
Well done Paddy for widening the range of topics on your RUclips videos, this was really interesting. My wife and young daughter are Thai so I understand when they are gossiping about me but would love to learn how to gossip back at them one day in Thai.

I'm blown away by Ali's speaking! It sounds natural and I can't notice she's not thai by her pronunciation. Good job 👏🏼 By the way, all of those learners are good at pronunciation too. The tones is really challenging for foreigners but you all nailed it. I can easily understand what you all are saying. Keep going!
Absolutely love this idea which is why I am back here watching this video for about the ninth time. Such a great way to stay motivated and learn from you all. Thanks Paddy.
This was amazing to see all these people speaking thai. I woukd love to speak it but I really really struggle with the sounds and tones. As a scot living in ireland most people would say that I should learn to speak English properly before moving on to anything else. Really looking forward to part 2 and well done to all of you for being brave enough to go on camera to shame the rest of us
this is really cool.....I am so impressed with each and every one of these folks.......I have been learning (trying to at least) Thai since the 80's and many here put me to shame. kudo's all, well done....and thx Paddy, always great content
This is so cool. So much positivity and great feedback. So awesome to see so many different countries represented. I'm especially impressed by those who have learned Thai outside of Thailand. I saw the post but forgot to submit my entry in time. So if you do another one. I would totally do it.

Great work! I think what Paddy is doing in this video is exceptional. His ability to be able to pinpoint the sticking points for foreigners learning to speak Thai is outstanding. I'm looking forward to the second episode of this video series.
For everybody in clip, You are the best for me because I understand when they talk Thai. Sorry for my english , I must practice more, nice to meet you paddy . I hope I go to Australia. I interesting your hometown paddy, It my destination. See you paddy.
That was awesome and so encouraging for someone like me who has taken some Thai language classes but is still struggling. Special shout out to Felipe who at one point was in the same Thai class with me online. Great job!
This is awesome. Some clear takeaways for myself to incorporate into my speaking. #1 Slow down! There is a feeling that speaking Thai quickly is better and slowly is weakness. Often times, at least for myself, long vowel songs become short vowels and certain tones can be lost. This is very useful. Great idea Paddy!
Miss Ali!!! Too good!! Crisp Thai indeed! [Just my personal feel and hence the compliment - But they all sounded so good given they picked it in such a short while! WOW! I never could..... ]
Awesome work, everyone! That was really enjoyable to watch. My key takeaway is fast doesn't equal good/smart, and try to speak slower. This is something I struggle with in my Persian, so appreciate the reminder! And high five on taking a punt and diversifying your material, Paddy. Good stuff!
It's especially true in the Thai language, native speakers take their time speaking, which makes Thai quite melodic, whereas many Latin languages such as Spanish for example, they speak super fast and it doesn't affect comprehension (but probably makes it hard for non-natives to understand them lol)
Thank you to love and learn our language ❤️🙏🏼 I can imagine its must be hard for western and foreign people but you all are so good to be able to talk in Thai like this, its amazing Im so happy to see this 😍 keep going 💪🏼 thank you 🙏🏼
I truly enjoyed watching this video, the participants are an inspiration! It also makes me realize how much of a slacker I was during the 6 years I lived in a village outside of Chiang Rai. I'm one of those older guys who managed to get by without learning Thai, and although I still want too, I just can't discipline myself enough, especially now that we live in the US. What makes it worse is that I am married to a Thai for 7 years now, and to see how hard she has struggled to learn English just makes me feel guilty. If I would have put in half the effort my wife has, I'd be fluent by now. Keep up the good videos though, it is inspiring and one day soon, I hope to start my journey again.
A big round of applause to everyone, you're doing such a good job. Thank you for your interest in learning Thai. I hope you guys will, if you haven't already, have a chance to visit Thailand soon, especially Felipe. Wishing you all the best in your Thai learning journey! 11:40 You got it Paddy. I'd also say "เรียนเอง จากหนังสือและอินเตอร์เน็ท". I'd put หนังสือ first as it sounded more natural in Thai. OMG, Pete. Your wife is so lucky to have such a lovely husband like you. At the same time, you're lucky to have her as well.
You are very encouraging Paddy! You've got a lovely vibe with people. Really enjoying your videos from someone who has been learning thai for 8 years Isince I've lived here) I"m definitely getting there but it's slow progress - if I'd put this much effort into learning a european language I'd be at a high professional level by now! But I will never give up. I love learning Thai - opens up so many more doors and enables us to integrate so much more with the beautiful Thailand xx
Great video, Paddy! So motivating to see so many people learning Thai as a foreign language and how some achieved such high levels of proficiency without having ever been in Thailand!! Most errors are pronunciation and tone-based, and these are things that can be worked on easily with a little bit of practice. Also, thumbs up to Luana for representing us southerners! Luana's tones aren't all wrong, per se, as it has strong hints of ภาษาใต้ (southern dialect). I'm wondering if perhaps her teacher is just a southerner? :)
I think this Vdo is so great. All of you put a lot of effort into learning Thai, I appreciate that and I think Thais can understand what you speak for sure. If you don't mind, I would like to do a little bit of comment for them here. For Luana, I might have a different opinion from you cuz I love her accent. I don't know how did you pick that Thai accent from but it is so cute. It sounds very Thai from uptown (which I found it's cute). If she keep practicing Thai, I'm sure she can speak very good Thai. For Peter, he said "So I taught myself from the internet and books" in the Thai natural way, we would say ผมก็เลยเรียนภาษาไทยด้วยตัวเองจากอินเตอร์เน็ตและหนังสือ apart from that I think it's just a little mistake, he is excellent.
I feel so far behind the learning curve. I have been studying thai off and on for the past year, and the combination of laziness and priorities have set me back on my learning process. I started with focusing on the thai script and tones, and then now I have been trying to learn more basic phrases, but I am having trouble remembering everything, and I will forget previous phrases. Maybe it's because I don't get enough time to go back and remember some of the beginning nuances and beginning phrases. I'm happy for all the braves ones that made a video, and hopefully, next time you decide to make one of these videos, I will have the courage to send one in. Everytime I see one of your videos, it reminds me that I should be studying. Lol
Dont give up! You can do it! It will take some time, but it will all be worth it in the end! Its not a race! Your efforts will be cherished and loved in the future! I just know it! :)
As a Thai trying to learn Chinese for 4 months and I have to say all clips are awesome. I remember trying to speak in front of the camera and I found it totally difficult to speak as fluently as these people.
Fantastic video. So cool to see fellow Thai learners sharing their experiences no matter how long or how short a time they've been learning. I follow your channel and meant to submit a clip of myself for this video but somehow didn't get round to it! Would love to join in if you're making another one. I've been living in Bangkok and studying Thai for around 6 years. Keep making these great videos please!

Wonderful Paddy, i struggle with the inflection in Thai and am embarrassed so refuse to speak because i fu** it up most times. I am 64 and love the Thai language. I have never been to either Australia or Thailand but one day would love to visit both countries. From the pommy bas**rd!
don't worry to speak Thai so cleary, Thai people feel happy when we hear many nations speak in Thai, that's so nice a lot for us. 🇹🇭👍👍👍 In Thailand, you've always been praised even you speak Thai a little or unclearly from Thai people.✌️✌️
Maybe I'll sent you a video of me speaking Thai. I would love to know what you think about a half French/Thai woman who used to hate Thai speaking and learnt it very late (I was about 9 years old). When I go to Thailand, some people say I speak very well, others say it's not very good. Anyways, these people in your video are so amazing. Bravo !
For me, I think there is a sense of direction for สอน (teach) and เรียน (learn) สอน (teach) is when to PROVIDE information, knowledge or skills and anything else from YOU to OTHERS in contrary, เรียน (learn) is the action when you RECEIVE to YOURSELF. So it is a more natural way to say เรียนจากอินเตอร์เน็ท :) PS it is so touching to know that there are so many people all over the world learning Thai. Being a minor language, those who are learning it must have a firm passion and interest. Wish you all guys the best and successful learning! Can't wait to see Part 2, 3 and many more :)
I am Thai and I love this video and so impressed for everyone ! I know it's difficult to pronounce Thai words fluently because this is not your own language but you guys all doing great ! Keep on going everyone. don't afraid about the accent pronunciation is more important like an English for me. And I still keep on practice my English speech ❤️🫰 เป็นกำลังใจให้ทุกคนนะครับ คนไทยยินดีเสมอในการช่วยเหลือเพื่อนต่างชาติ ที่ฝึกพูดภาษาไทย และขอบคุณมากที่สนใจภาษาของเราครับ 🙏
Note: Another thing Aurora is missing is how she pronounces the "ng" sound which I understand hard for foreigners, especially those from the west, but I saw dozens of people nailed it. So, keep it up!
Cheer up for everyone who learning the Thai language is a little bit hard but for the foreigner don't worry Thai people try to understand what you say. Thank you for Learning the Thai language and the Thai culture.
They've only been learning Thai a short time and they're amazing! (No wonder I didn't make the cut) 555 So inspiring! It just makes me want to get better
I study Thai from Internet and book by myself --> ผมเรียนภาษาไทยทางอินเตอรเน็ตและหนังสือ"ด้วยตัวเอง" "By myself" --> "ด้วยตัวเอง" or start sentense with "ตัวผมเอง" เช่น "ตัวผมเอง"เรียนภาษาไทยทางอินเตอร์เน็ตและหนังสือ This word focus on "By Myself"
It’s so fun. Pls do more programs of such kind. I m a Malaysian. I hv been travelling for business to Thailand for the past 18 years only the monthly basis. I can understand everything the participants said and I can pick up their mistakes in pronunciation. But I am not as strong in making long sentences.

The word self-taught, native Thai speakers would say something like “เรียนด้วยตัวเอง” (which directly translate to something like “study by myself”).
Thank you
It's commonly said "self-study" or just "study".
Yes, but "เรียนเอง" is what I would use, less literal translation.

Awesome video man!
The Italian girl hits different tho. Keep up the great content sir.
สู้ ๆ นะครับ เพื่อน ๆ ชาวต่างชาติทุกคนที่หัดเรียนภาษาไทย
Everyone is sound good. Keep pushing. Love from Thai. ^_^
How sad. I wasn't able to send my video before! Looking forward to be part of your vlog too! Ill send it soon!
I like the way your explanation and how to pronounce each word beautifully. Cheers!
Thanks a lot Laurence! Maybe some more to come down the track!
Damn! These people put my Thai to shame :) I must work harder!
I'm so impressed these folks got so far in such short periods of time.

I love to see you talk in Thai.
My god they are all so good!!!! My video needs to go in a bloopers video!!! :)
In Thailand, you've always been praised even you speak Thai a little or unclearly from Thai people.✌️✌️

Great video Paddy! Hope you and your friends and family are doing okay in Sydney, stay safe!
5:39 คุณ Ali จัดอยู่ในระดับ native speaker แล้วนะครับ พูดชัดมาก
Wow that was great Paddy and everyone who submitted videos. It was inspiring and fun to watch.
That was great to see everyone doing so well, I am so jealous 555
Well done to all of you who contributed and more good fortune to you all
Maybe I'll sent you a video of me speaking Thai. I would love to know what you think about a half French/Thai woman who used to hate Thai speaking and learnt it very late (I was about 9 years old). When I go to Thailand, some people say I speak very well, others say it's not very good. Anyways, these people in your video are so amazing. Bravo !
I‘m so glad and grateful that i see this. ขอบคุณมากครับ ที่สนใจที่ชอบและเรียนภาษาไทย ขอบคุณแพดดี้มากๆ
Been living in Thailand for more than 4 years w/ no speaking Thai at all. Your video is giving me some motivation :)
Great to hear! Never too late to start 👌
For me, I think there is a sense of direction for สอน (teach) and เรียน (learn)
สอน (teach) is when to PROVIDE information, knowledge or skills and anything else from YOU to OTHERS
in contrary, เรียน (learn) is the action when you RECEIVE to YOURSELF.
So it is a more natural way to say เรียนจากอินเตอร์เน็ท :)
PS it is so touching to know that there are so many people all over the world learning Thai.
Keep on going everyone.
don't afraid about the accent
pronunciation is more important like an English for me. And I still keep on practice my English speech ❤️🫰
I unfortunately just could not include everyone! Would have loved to
@@ThaiTalkwithPaddy No problem... :) I still love what you put together here. Keep up the good work!
Aurora was amazing.....loved this!
Wow! They’re all awesome! Just so amazed how many people would want to learn Thai language. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
All of these people with only 3,5 months of studying but can speak soo confidently omg.
ทุกคนเก่งมากครับ u guys rock !!
I don’t even know some of foreigners are really good in Thai. Great content Paddy !
I study Thai from Internet and book by myself --> ผมเรียนภาษาไทยทางอินเตอรเน็ตและหนังสือ"ด้วยตัวเอง"
"By myself" --> "ด้วยตัวเอง"
or start sentense with "ตัวผมเอง" เช่น "ตัวผมเอง"เรียนภาษาไทยทางอินเตอร์เน็ตและหนังสือ This word focus on "By Myself"
It’s so fun. Pls do more programs of such kind. I m a Malaysian. I hv been travelling for business to Thailand for the past 18 years only the monthly basis. I can understand everything the participants said and I can pick up their mistakes in pronunciation. But I am not as strong in making long sentences.
