I really enjoyed the game. Thank you for living up to the Metroidvania promise! I was so excited when I got the 'purple' update (no spoilers) and finally got to open those doors.
Big big improvement over the first game and your team should be very proud.

This series is a classic in my book. Both games are fantastic.

This game is a 8.5 in my book. I'm having genuine fun. That's what this game brings to the table. Unalturared fun! Also the pace, is perfect. The station is superb, and it I. Proves in every way possible to the already great first game. Kudos to the developers and please make it a trilogy!

I enjoyed it and thought it was good. Just not GREAT, ya know? Still a clear recommend for any looking for a good single player game.

Thanks for the review! The first of these games is one that I've long intended to play and never did, and this one looks like more of the same! I loved the swinging action in Swarm more than I can say, so if combat in this is anything like that, then I'm down for it. Especially with the 'platforming' elements of dodging things in hallways and the like. That fast section gave me a bit of the feeling of Super Metroid, where you're escaping at the end!

The pace isn't as intense as Swarm, admittedly. That game is more arcade shooter than this one. If anything, I wish there was more combat in this, akin to running into enemies in every room like in a Metroid game. For this game, you would sporadically see turrets and drones in the odd hallway, but most of it was confined to special rooms you would get locked in until you cleared them out.
      Thanks for watching!

looks good I have only played the sneekie perkie (demo) version so far and it was fun
I do like this type of honest spoiler free reviews so keep it up, I will rarely watch too much of playthroughs maybe first few min to get an idea of the gameplay then fast forward to end for final thoughts, i like this format

Thank you. I’m going to see how this video performs when the game releases on Thursday and make a call from there.
Counting the playtime, this video took 11 hrs to make, so it needs to have some decent spread to make that worth it.
      Thanks for watching!

Cheers for the review. How are your arms the day after?

    • @liveopenmike
      @liveopenmike  Год назад

I'm fine the day after. There's a lot of sections with no ground where you have to grapple across and contorting my body to look around corners while "hanging" in mid air was super immersive. It's a good time and way more expansive than the the first game. I'd like to see you give it a run after seeing you play Windlands.

The first game was a letdown for me, which is why I almost passed on this one. 'Metroidvania' got me in and I'm glad I played it.

Thing is you REALLY don't need the first game to enjoy this one. They didn't connect the stories and the first hour or so of this one basically is a refresher course on the game mechanics. There is a fair bit of patience needed here as you traverse to opposite corners of the map multiple times and there is no fast travel, only shorter routes as you are able to open more doors.

gosh, I hate the VR games about gimmicky ways of locomotion, like the spy game where you're in a kayak, or the games where you swing arms to run, or the stupid run like a monkey minigames and this... the grappling gun games to swing around like Tarzan. Can't we just walk around? Or perhaps float in low gravity? I just don't see grappling hooks working as primary means, though Super Metroid itself had them. And enemies, they're essential to Metroidvanias, as well as extensive exploration. Any of that here? I bet not, probably yet another 4 hour romp in mostly linear fashion with a bit backtracking to get a new skin for your grappling hook. Yay... sorry I'm to cynical to enjoy this, experience comes in the way of mindless fun

Respectfully disagree on the movement systems in VR. While I don’t want every game to have a unique style, the physical nature of it is part of the fun for me over flat gaming. This game would’ve been INTENSELY boring just walking around like normal. And I loved Phantom Covert Ops (the kayak game). Agree to disagree.
There are enemies in the game, just not enough as I said in the review. I never had trouble with Metroid combat either post Metroid 2. Maybe I’m just good? 😂
I clearly stated that you had to acquire different weapons for your hooks to open specific doors all over the map, so it’s not just cosmetic as you implied. I also clearly stated my playthru was 6hrs and that was not a complete run. I’ve been more than half of the Metroid series in less time than that and I have played them all. Only the the Prime games were long.
Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@liveopenmike 6 hours in VR games don't mean much. Aside from too good players with classics on emulators with save anywhere, most were short in total play time, but would still take you weeks to finish. 6 hours in VR games are often just tedious and mostly linear...

I disagree, the grappling works amazing in the medium.
