If you read the third stanza specially, the poet makes direct reference to Lord Krishna with this God, the Avyakta Brahman. This kind of song bears strong resembelence to the Brahma sangeet sung in the brahmo samaj((it became a wasted samaj ultimately)) to which the poet himself belonged. The netajis version has replaced the God with Indian Nation and is more nationalistic and lacks the beauty of the original poem in meaning but musical rythym is more execellent in netaji’s song. If Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was able to take the helm of affairs of this country after independence situation would have been different. He was secular in thoughts, far sighted in vision and way forward to lead the country to a bright future. It does not matter, weather the government honours him or not, it does not matter if his face is in our currency or not. It does not matter if he is taught in text books or not. even though both the songs claim same origins( the present one and the INA one), there is serious difference in meanings ,,, the original song in bengali, named “Bharoto Bhaggo Bhidhata”/(Bharata Bhagya Vidhata) , a 5 stanza poem written by Shri Tagore about God of Destinity of India or literally the God , the Creator who wrote it to taunt the then emperor of India George V during his 1905 visit, in this the poet makes “the God” as the eternal emperor of India in comparision to the human. If you read the third stanza specially, the poet makes direct reference to Lord Krishna with this God, the Avyakta Brahman. This kind of song bears strong resembelence to the Brahma sangeet sung in the brahmo samaj((it became a wasted samaj ultimately)) to which the poet himself belonged.
The netajis version has replaced the God with Indian Nation and is more nationalistic and lacks the beauty of the original poem in meaning but musical rythym is more execellent in netaji’s song. The first version(tagore) is a philosopher’s(rishi) song, the second one(netaji) is soldier’s song.

Actually our bengali 'janaganamana' is translated to Hindi keeping same tune of patriotism. But this cover is not good. If you want the actual felling search 'gumnami' movie.

I am well aware that in many Indian cities there are roads named after him, and he does have that honorific attached to his name (Netaji).

After japan surrendered, even the BNA (Burma national army) changed sides, Yet this ONE PERSON didn’t stop there, he again went to Russia to get independence to India. Germany or Japan or Russia or Britain were engaged in world wars to quench one’s Imperialistic desire. But Bose wanted India Independent. You said "Had either of them occupied India it would have made British rule look like a love cuddle" - HAHAHAHAAHHA ‘You should be kidding. From our country, INDIA, 13 lakh soldiers took part in WW1 with British, expecting atleast a Dominion status after WW1, but what we Indians got? “Jallianwala bagh - MASSACRE” 1919, PUNJAB - (the place which contributed the most no. soldiers in BRITISH INDIAN ARMY) Almost 1300 people were massacred. (And Boston massacre - where ‘05’ people died is termed an important event in American Revolution). Okay and in WW2, 25 lakh soldiers, without conscription participated in British Indian army. After war, where brave Indians fought courageously with Japanese, germans, Italians allover the world (example - You can see "Battle of Haifa") they were returning to India. And the reason for Indian Independence is the revolts in this British royal Navy, Air force and Army- And the reason - “The spark of revolt created in the British Indian Army by "INA and his supreme commander NETAJI" . Any country that tried to occupy India that time would have been destroyed by our Indian National Army INA.
