Finally!!! Someone talks about the damn Z button. I spent weeks trying to search and nothing. Thank you so much for the info. My all black controller can finally have a black Z button
Nice. Yea I got into Smash ultimate (hadn't played Smash since 64 lol) got me the Burnt Orange GC controller and got some Clear Purple, Glow in the Dark and Clear blue buttons and sticks. I don't know Which ones I will put where, but I can't wait!
I'd keep the original Z-button, the omnipresent purple color doesn't bother me in a custom controller. I'd believe painting it would be another alternative but for the time being I'll stick to the OG Z-button
Good video to cover all of the issues with the 3rd party sets. Finding where the issue lies with the z button from your video, I found a quick fix that does not render your shell only useable with them. If you shave off the bottom of the shafts, it should have a looser fit!
If I have to settle with Z button issue or c stick upside down issue, I’m fine. The analog stick was what I feared, that solution seems effective and cost less gameplay wise. Cheers!
There is another problem, if you have a short button pad it is imperative to fill the shaft in the button that actuates the face buttons with hot glue. this gives the buttons a better feel and makes them feel less loose.
I wish I had found this video last night. I got some buttons in yesterday and had a hell of a time with a file and the z buttons. I ended up doing what you did. For the analog stick I use a but of solder (just solder wire not melted or anything) balled it up and dropped it in the the channel and it works fine now. I had to do the same with my c stick too. Otherwise they work great and look great.
If you shave off where the z button makes contact with the shell so make that bezel thinner it’ll also make it fit as in my case. I also added the slope that he mentions on the video.
I had some issues with one of these Z buttons too, but instead of clipping off the pegs, I filed down the whole of that end piece and shortened it down to about halfway into the pegs, so they're still there and slot into the holes, but aren't long enough to push against the case. I'm not sure how it would feel if I trimmed off the pegs, but with the pegs still partly there it feels good. I also found I had to file down the opposite end of the button slightly as it was too long to pivot in the shell
Vitoamiibo, I may have said in the video that you **need** the metal bracket. however, you don’t really need it, it’s just without it the button sits low and may feel off
it's hard to see the "slight slope" and unsure of how to apply it to my z-button to make it fit and feel as good as you say it does. Can you give more detail and better lighting+focusing please
Thaaaaank youuuuu i was losing my mind trying to compare the alibaba cheapies i got to oem ones. I just couldnt sus it out. It makes complete sense now, bout to go jigsaw on that bitch
Shit. I just ordered some from a Canadian dude off Etsy for $7. Gonna favorite this video just incase. I got a crappy refurbished wavebird from gamestop that has WiiU Pro controller analog sticks and they stick in every corner on the gamecube shell. I also have my original Gamecube controllers that need some refurbishing after years of melee, mario party and tons of game time. Some don't even have grips.
Great video, have you had any issues with the c stick being too high up and getting stuck in the shell? Also, how often am I suppose to change the tin foil ball. Thanks for making this guide you're the best.
Yeah, I've had a few C-sticks a little too high, from my experience, you can either shave down a little bit inside the hole for the stickbox or just clean up the inside of that slot. It can also be caused by the tinfoil ball being too large. And for the tinfoil ball, I remove it with something like this: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/VAwAAOSw8RZaU-VQ/s-l300.jpg. You can also remove it with a pair of small tweezers. On that note, I switched from a tinfoil ball to small pieces of crumbled up paper since it is much easier to remove and works just the same. Also, a small piece of yarn will work just as well. Let me know if you have any questions.
Has anyone found a good knockoff controller to get replacement shells yet? I know the some of the shells are not compatible with the official board but I am curious if there is one out there that works with little to no modifications needed.
There's a brand named ttg that produces 3rd party gc controllers that do have compatible shells with oem (1st party). However only one side of the shell will work with the oem shell (could be an oem front shell with a knockoff back plate, or vice versa I believe. Though I'm not exactly sure if the entire shell will work on oem). The third party back plate needs a bit of modification unfortunately, but it's super easy. Multishine made a short video on it.
I've had this happen a few times, try shaving down the front part of the triggers, that being the part that rubs against the front of the shell. Next, try changing out the trigger braces or add if you do not have any. And finally, change the springs. If you do not have any extra springs/ don't want to change them out, you can flip over the spring or try spinning it so it sits differently. Let me know how this goes for you. ~Cheers
The C-stick sits a little to high on the stick box. Kinda has the opposite issue then the thump stick. What you can do is try to shave out a tiny bit of plastic from the hole and widen it ever so slightly. You want the C-stick to make as little contact to the shell as possible. Good luck!
Help plz - Cut off pegs, sanded, created slope, z button won’t press down when controller is reassembled unless I press stupidly hard. Have been trying to sand more, hasn’t helped EDIT: sanded the rounded very bottom part where the pegs are and got it to click a little better. I think if I sanded it more it would be great, but I can live with where it’s at now ✌🏻
Sand down the outside of the Z button. This happens if the z button is too "wide". So, the actual button is on a raft which should be shaved down a little. The raft is scraping to the inside of the shells. Also, try loosening the screw near the z a little. Hope it helps, cheers!
what would be causing the stick to get stuck in place when moving it around? my C-Stick is doing that and I was wondering it’s similar to the C being upside down and I just need to file it down.
I would try to shave down the edges of the z button a tiny bit. It won't ever be the same feeling as the OEM. I've been using mine for about 2 months now and I've gotten used to it.
Are there any 3rd party shells that support trigger guards and 1st party boards? I wanna mod my controller more man! If there are, can you link me the page?
Just purchased these buttons a day ago, and I can say there are no issues with the sticks. My sticks were perfect height without the aluminum. The only issue I had was with the z button, cutting off the pegs and sanding down the sides helped it a lot and it's nearly as good as the regular z button. No issues while playing, was definitely worth the cost.
Awesome! The quality between batches varies dramatically since they are made so cheap, you got a good set. Out of my 30~ sets I bought, it was around a 30% chance to be near perfect quality
Nile so you would have no issues assuming the spray paint does not add too much material on the outside of the buttons. If you have a thick coat on the outside of the buttons they may end up scratching against the shell and removing the paint off the buttons. Unless you are looking for a very specific color, it would be cheaper to buy online the buttons.
Assuming you are referring to the taller black joysticks, those come from a Wii Nunchuk. You can also get the stick in white, gold, and a few other colors.
@@kyrelpolifrone4438 i bought another set of buttons and the triggers on those work properly. Another question about the aluminum ball, will i ever have to replace it with another ball, or will it be just fine?
The shell mod is the better way imo I tried your way with one of my z buttons I ordered and the z button felt extremely bad, getting used to it isn't the problem because it would still be a "bad feeling" now or in months... but then i said fuck it and the did shell mod (which apparently does not effect the OEM z button, don't feel like trying lol) and the ebay buttons feel like an actual button now. just my 2 cents

Solution to Z buttons don't fuck up the original Z button.

i did this, i didnt bother with the slope. it took a really long time to shave off that bezel with my knife but it worked out and feels really good.

I want quality third party type 3 analog stickboxes.
The eternal struggle :(
Thank you for talking about to fix the Analog. I was thinking either that or glue but Glue would be harder to get off
Amazing video, just wished there was more ways to fix the z button without needing that metal piece from a OEM z button

My ABXY buttons are very stiff for no reason. They fit inside and don’t rub but it takes a lot of pressure to push them down
Tatoes0404 perhaps you mixed tall buttons and tall membranes. Try swapping rubber pads from other controllers

what would be causing the stick to get stuck in place when moving it around? my C-Stick is doing that and I was wondering it’s similar to the C being upside down and I just need to file it down.
The c stick might be too high, that's my guess
I had the same issue. Just try to « dig » a deeper hole with a screwdriver to make the C stick lower and you should be fine
I got a filing set and plenty of small screw drivers. I’ll figure it out. Thanks though.
Any advice for when the Z Button fits, but doesn't click easily? Like, I have to push way harder compared to a regular Z button.

SaucySquash make silicone molds and use any colored resin to make new shells! Theyre actually great

have you had any issues with triggers not registering analog inputs? mine do that.
Make sure the white pegs located on the back of the motherboard are fully up when you reassemble.

I've run one [aluminum ball] for nearly 10 months on my main melee controller I've never needed to change it out.
what happened to smash proof ?
Not affiliated with him, not sure if anything happened to him.
I want someone to make a gamecube controller with a transparent shell, and buttons.
I can help you, DM me on discord, @saokyy#5444
Are these joysticks as good quality as just ripping some out of wii num-chuks?

d Never paint the buttons.
Just make your own with silicon and resin
