Nikolay Silvansky
nato nel 1915 a Lyubotin, vicino a Kharkov: morto nel 1985. Pianista, insegnante e compositore. Si è diplomato nel 1944 al Conservatorio di Mosca dove è stato allievo di Flier in studi di pianoforte. Ha anche studiato composizione a Kharkov. Successivamente entrò a far parte della facoltà del Conservatorio di Kharkov nel 1947 e poi del Conservatorio di Kiev dal 1954.
Le opere per pianoforte includono tre sonate, ventiquattro preludi, schizzi musicali su "Dead Souls" di Gogol, Fantasia su Polovetsian Dances di Borodin.
Born 1915 Lyubotin, near Kharkov: died 1985. Pianist, teacher and composer. Graduated 1944 from the Moscow Conservatoire where he was a pupil of Flier in piano studies. Also studied composition in Kharkov. Later joined the faculty of the Kharkov Conservatoire in 1947 and then the Kiev Conservatoire from 1954.
Piano works include three sonatas, twenty-four preludes, musical sketches on Gogol’s”Dead Souls”, Fantasia on Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances.
Il Conservatorio di Kiev è stato fondato il 27 ottobre 1863 presso il campus di Kiev del Collegio di musica della Società musicale russa. L'iniziativa di creare il Conservatorio appartiene a Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij. L'organizzazione del conservatorio fu guidata da Sergej Rachmaninov e Aleksandr Glazunov. Nel 1925 le classi junior furono separate dal conservatorio per formare un Music College, mentre le classi senior furono fuse nell'ex privato Istituto musicale e teatrale Mykola Lysenko (oggi Università nazionale teatrale, cinematografica e televisiva di Kiev I. K. Karpenko-Kary).
Il conservatorio fu rianimato quando Kiev diventò nuovamente la capitale dell'Ucraina nel 1934. L'Istituto di musica e teatro di Mykola Lysenko fu sciolto e il suo dipartimento di musica fuso di nuovo con il Music College, mentre il dipartimento di teatro è servito come base per la creazione dell'Istituto Statale del Teatro di Kiev di Les Kurbas. Nel 1938 il conservatorio ricevette il premio dell'Ordine di Lenin. Nel 1940 il conservatorio prese il nome da Čajkovskij. Nel 1995 il presidente dell'Ucraina elevò lo status del conservatorio e lo ribattezzò Accademia Nazionale di Musica Pëtr Čajkovskij dell'Ucraina.
Il conservatorio occupa un edificio costruito nel 1890 come Hotel Continental (architetti Eduard Bradtman e Georg Schleifer). L'edificio fu distrutto durante la seconda guerra mondiale, ma fu ricostruito nel 1955, a quel punto fu aggiunta una sala da concerto (architetti L. Katok e Ja. Krasny).
Antonio Castagna si è diplomato presso l’ISTITUTO MUSICALE PAREGGIATO “G. Braga” di Teramo e, successivamente, si è perfezionato con il M° Franco Medori e con il M° Carlo Zecchi.
Con il pittore NINO DI SIMONE, nel 1986, ha ideato la performance di “MUSICA E PITTURA” sui “Quadri di una esposizione“ di M. Mussorgsky; ha quindi tenuto numerosi concerti e recitals in Italia e all’estero (GERMANIA, SVEZIA, BELGIO, OLANDA, EMIRATI ARABI UNITI) per prestigiose Istituzioni culturali. Ha partecipato più volte a programmi radio-televisivi RAI.
Nel 1999 suona in ARGENTINA e in COREA del SUD per l’Università di Taejon .
Nel 2000, oltre che essere nel cartellone ufficiale della XXI Stagione dei Concerti “Primo Riccitelli” di Teramo come solista, ha effettuato una tournée in GERMANIA, SVIZZERA e AUSTRIA suonando a Salisburgo nell’ambito dei Salzburger Schlosskonzerte. Nel mese di ottobre ha suonato a Boston (USA) per la Dante Alighieri.
Nel 2001 é stato nuovamente invitato a Salisburgo e nel mese di giugno ha suonato a Parigi, presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura, nell’ambito della manifestazione “Hommage à LA FIGLIA DI JORIO” organizzata dalla Provincia di Pescara.
Ha suonato a Lanciano per la XXX Estate Musicale Frentana nell’ambito della “1a Rassegna Pianistica Errico D’Amico” e quindi quindi a Basilea per il Consolato Generale d’Italia.
Su invito dell'Istituto Italiano di Cultura, ha suonato in BRASILE, a Rio de Janeiro, nel prestigioso Museo Nazionale delle Belle Arti.
Nel mese di novembre 2010 ha suonato, con il Trio di Teramo, a Filadelfia (USA) nell’Auditorium Marshall dell’Haverford College, nella Sala Lincoln dell’Union League e nel Consolato Generale d’Italia.
E’ stato Direttore Artistico di importanti rassegne musicali svoltesi in Abruzzo.
E' stato Direttore, dal 1996 al 2012, dell’I.S.S.M “Gaetano BRAGA“ di Teramo. E' stato docente di Pianoforte nei Conservatori di Foggia e di Teramo.

Davvero bella questa composizione del maestro Nikolay Silvansky, ha un inizio molto veloce ed allegro per poi scendere fino al tono drammatico e triste e risalire di nuovo in modo vivace. Ora non so da dove deriva la parola "Ukrainian Scherzo" associata a Scherzo ma è davvero unica e originale. Tempo fa ho visto uno speciale sulla guerra in Ucraina dove si parlava di storia e arte anche musicale e ricordo molto bene il conservatorio di Kiev dove sono passati molti artisti.
Grazie per aver suonato questo bellissimo brano con estrema bravura.

Hello Antonio! This is a very energetic and joyful work that seems to celebrate life! I love your fervent attack on the keys in the first part with fabulous staccato and pedal work! The midsection is a very serious and pensive passage and your touch is magnificent to bring out the raw sentiment. You wrote very interesting things about this little-known piece that was recommended to me by a friend who taught History of Music at the Naples Conservatory.

Many years ago I wrote these compositions for solo piano but then I didn't do anything anymore. At that time I was director of the Teramo Conservatory and I didn't have much time to devote myself to composition.
After I retired I dedicated myself exclusively to the study of the great classics, also looking for little-known pieces.
