Isn't there a procedure where you have to polarize the regulator ,to get it to charge ?. Something like jumping the battery term to the field terminal ?.,,,

There is a procedure to that. I covered it in the other generator video as well. You take a jumper wire from the hot side of the battery to the "A" (armature post) on the generator. I just finished up the XLCH Generator and Regulator Wiring on the other ironhead yesterday so that video will cover it again quickly. Thanks for watching!

Hey buddy on the 81 have you ever delt with the diode behind the head light? Please let me know because I have a charging problem as well.

I never messed with it. My issue was the regulator. Well, at least I hope it was. Bike is long gone now. Good luck with the repair!

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you can point me in the right direction for info about the diode in the 81 sporster. Thanks.

I mentioned this was not the right way to go about this. Also what to look out for when you don't... You should pull it every time.

You must polarize the generator before installing. If you don't the generator will not last long and you could start melting wires it's simple to do with the battery hooked up attach a wire from Ground to ground gen to battery and pos hooked to battery just tape the pos on gen you will hear it click done!
