When I finally had my 1974 XLH Sportster back on the road it would cold start fine, ride it a little while, shut it off for a minute. If you tried to restart within a few minutes NOTHING. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and the starter would fire right up. Don’t remember the exact wire but I used too small gauge wire and when it got hot it blocked like a fuse. Found out what the factory wire gauge was, changed wire and problem solved.
That's good to know. I'll keep it in mind moving forward. Honestly electrical would not have been high on the diagnosis list with those symptoms but now I won't rule it out in the future! Thanks for watching!
time for a better crimper do you use shrink tube? if you drop them tools we always polarized them when it first starts with all the sparks your getting i hope your ignition or regulater works? hmmm
I typically shrink wrap and double crimp everything. I'll try and get startup/charging when I get around to starting, with a meter. I've never had them not do a quick spark polarizing. Do you flash em after they fire??
Yes you can use a genny cap mount (I think that's what you're referring to). I had one on my 73. It changes if you run the mechanical system vs. the electronic board regulator though. Parts list for making it work is a bit different. Thanks for watching!
I'm oddly one of the few that love the tuning aspect. I'm almost positive whatever carb goes on this thing will have some follow ups post the initial shakedown. I have never run a thunderjet but am familiar with them, just never had my hands on one personally.
@@WrenchingWrecked they work very well the response is huge theres a few other things you can also do to them i like bedixes also i had a dual throat dellardo that i put on a stroker 61 sportster with branch heads and sum ground cams rivera made for it sounded like a dragster very fun bike
A good rule of thumb is if you dont have time to do it right the first time . how the hell you gonna find time to do it again? there is times when thats not possible but just saying
Oddly enough I do have time to fix things come summer but you are right. I completely agree about do it right the first time when applicable. I'll probably rework/rewire before first rip on this thing but I needed some motivation to get back to work on this old turd.
