at 26:25 you start talking about building a total system.. Active directory, cloud systems etc.. Im looking forward to it. I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I just hit a wall with not being able to read/write to shared folder after logging into my pc from my domain user.. keeps being locked out, like i dont have the permission's so im really looking forward to see how you are going to do it. ps.. How do i Super subscribe :)
Hi Willie Thank you very much for your great Setup Video, it helps me a lot to set SHA in our company. I have just one question, and I didn´t found any about this in the net. What is about user, groups and permissions. Is it necessery to set those parameters on active and passive, or will it mirrored to the passive when you entered the cluster mode the first time? Have a nice Day Daniel
I like to see more :) I'm using synology for a long time. Software and Hardware is excellent. This is my third unit, never had an issue with any of them.
Hey Willie, Just wondering what software you use to screen capture? I want to start making short videos for clients on how to do certain tasks in Office 365. Thanks!
Where is the next part with AD? And HeartBeat connection is not so practical. If two Synos are on different stories in the same building, with already done vertical cabling... is there another way to create heartbeat connection?
Synology DSM is worth the price of admission. I work in IT all day and don't want to fiddle when I'm at home. I gladly pay the DSM tax on my 3 Synology units.
Well, i am a bit confused from not availability during NAS-1 down. What if you have iSCSI LUN with SQL databases and Windows server with SQL server runing, using iSCSI LUN on NAS as data storage?
Hi. I did tests in the past with dsm 6.0 I think. And there was a 30 sec timeout when the HA did the switchover. You may need to increase the scsi timeout values in your windows virtual machines in order to avoid bluescreen whenever it happens. Cheers
@@samnert1971 Hi Massimo, i dont use that iSCSI LUN in virtual machine. I have physical HP SERVER with Windows Server 2012 R2 and Microsoft SQL Server runing on it. On such physical server i have connected iSCSI LUN from my Synology NAS DS918+. Whole LUN is on physical server as disc E:\. And on this disc E:\, all SQL databases are stored. In such constellation, if iSCSI LUN does not have adequate responses, the SQL server fails and even databases might corrupt. So if HA solution delivers break in 10 - 10 seconds, its killer of SQL Server. For more, application runing over SQL server (accounting system) crash for all clients as well.

Hi Willie, awesome video thank you. I have a question for when you are at the 39min 20sec part of the video. You’ve reconnected the NAS back to the cluster and it states that the service is suspended until the issue is resolved. Does this mean that you would have to perform the fix outside of business hours as users cannot access/save content onto the cluster? Is the cluster now inaccessible to other users while in this state? Many thanks.
nice, i'll just set mine up in raid 0 and that way I always have a live backup of my data to the passive server, I only have 2 drives per each, I do hope this is a good idea, if not someone let me know x/
Thank you for the video I have been following this very well, but I didn't understand where that address 192.168.66.66 is came. It's for witch devices??
@@buugedy No, to prevent split brain for when you have two servers in HA mode. Microsoft conveniently works around this by having a witness disk. I think synology should have the same.
At last somebody that explains things thoroughly. Subscribed.
excellent video my friend, this is why I like the Synology NAS units, their software is on a level with Windows servers for a lot less cost :)

NICE!!!!!!! Loved this video looking forward to video 2 and 3 the most.
Could you please talk about "Disk Re-identification Count" mentioned in Disk health report. Thanks for the videos,

very useful tutorial. thanks
does anybody know if the Synology high availiability is quick enough to switch a isci lun without machines going into a puased state?

I have one with 4TB on it that I want to do HA. That will take some time to do...

Willie How it’s create automaticly when You’ve configured NAS on those devices? Because I didn’t see when you‘ve configured it
Sorry can you answer me ?
Look at time stamp 24:26 in the video where the .66 was specified for the cluster IP.
Split brain, that's why you need three servers, as the manual suggests
What 3 servers? For HA?

You can configure a witness server to prevent split brain.
Very good video, but you have a single point of failure in your setup and that's the Switch. If the switch fails you're done. :)
Damm sexy synologies....
