Cheers Matt! That's the perfect illustration of just how fiddly these type of jobs are - especially in older houses where nothing is straight, plumb or true! I did a fair few of these back in the day, and I don't think I ever made money on any of them! 🤷♂ 👍
Hi Matt. Thanks for this video. I'm doing something similar in my daughter's Reno in a couple of weeks. Although hers won't be as much an intricate design as your mum's, just a basic rectangle design I'll save this vid and work off it. Way cheaper than having the electric company move the whole thing to an outside cabinet . Thanks again
These are definitely tricky jobs! If I was doing anything differently I might use the push to open type latches instead of handles, and I might have been tempted to get the carcass up then scribe a panel to overlay and meet the walls so I could get a neat finish, but for a quick fix I think you did a great job!
Gidday Matt. Fingers crossed that your Dad gets well again soon. Please cheer up about the green hue in the workshop. I still enjoy the work you offer from there. All good, mate.
Mum's and their son's it one of those time honoured traditions like an unwritten law, if mum wants something doing instead of asking husband to do it they alway's ask their son. I spent many years doing jobs around my parents house mainly because my dad was just totally useless at D.I.Y. this didn't stop until after my father passed away and if I'm being honest it only stopped because after my dad passed myself and my wife packed up all my mums belongings and made her move into our home to live with us. Great to see Matt that no job is too big or too small when it comes down to helping your mum and the finished product looks like they were there from the beginning, 💯% 👍.
Fascinated to watch this having just completed my own similar project. I learned some new possible approaches from you, so thank you! I needed to minimise the framing to allow access to the wiring - long story short, as part of this I used overlay doors. Because the overlay hinges are not adjustable (and I had to use double doors because of the width ) I ended up with the doors being marginally out of level with each other. But it seems that I am the only one who has noticed!
A nice job Matthew. I've a similar job to do at my Mam s house which I have been putting off. You've shamed me into starting it. It's nice to see you near your family again after your exile period up here in Durham. I listened to workshop banter this morning and have to say the vids in the tent /workshop look fine. Best wishes and i hope your dad is feeling better. Well done !👍
Hi Matt, that wax a grezt job you done for your mother, it just shows that you ard a good son, I hope she made you lunch and supplied you with cups of tea, all the very bedt for Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Well done. I thoroughly enjoy the soccer/football goal in the backyard. Doesnt happen in the states. Also, i just recently hung a shelf thing for my mother too. Hers was all ready made but similar. Family first.
The dis board may need work on it or changing completely , is there room to accommodate this in future . A retired electrical contractor , kind regards
My stud detector must be from the same batch as yours as mine didn't work either. When I queried it the girl at the shop just said "looks like its working fine to me" ?
Recently worked in a house with a boxed in consumer unit and homeowner wasn’t best pleased when I said it needed to come out. So tight the lid wouldn’t come off and had even been filled around. The CU itself even had newspaper stuffed in the top!
This was good. One improvement that could be made was to leave the right hand panel over long at the top which you could have them scribed to the ceiling for a gapless finish. My woodworking is of a similar level to yourself but I am always striving to improve like you.
@@erictheviking672 Once you get the hang of scribing, it really does make a difference. Caulk would crack in a gap that large. Better just to leave it, not the end of the world.
You did great, Matt. Never doubted you, though it was a bit of a tongue twister construction. And no pin-prick holes from the forstner bit on the front of the doors - [I've been there AND cursed about it!]
Hi Matt, Nice job mate. Mum will be pleased. Watch out for all those up coming home cooked meals though. I could see a possible diet coming up in the future ! Onya mate !!
Good wee job to do but definitely not as simple as it looks. It would look nice with a scaffold board shelf underneath the electric board side to balance the whole thing out. I did my parents as well and it was a nightmare with all the cable entries and conduit, walls all out of square and plumb. Took me a couple of days going back and forth.
I appreciate that it is Bosch and you have an affiliation with Bosch, but how good is the Stud Detector? I have tried a few and found them to be hit and miss. The latest one I have couldn't find the studding through half inch plasterboard
Every time I look at fuse board boxing in I think how I would do it differently now. It bugs me 😂. Yours turned out well. One small thing I would have scribed the end panel to the ceiling. But easy from the arm chair when watching other people
Whilst snapping your Tape Measure shut may appeal to your Boyish nature, doing so damages the Hook end, which over time will lead to inaccurate measurement.

Great job Matt 👍 stud finder joke never gets old
A proper woodworking job because it solved a problem. Nice one.
Thank you.

Very neat. I think most houses are built with wonky spirit levels! 😃

Stud finder! haha. What a huge improvement to the look of that area. You are a good son.
Thank you Janet
Great job, I think you could say you've found another 'comfort zone' with this build.

It really looks great there! Much better now!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

That was a tricky job. Old houses often are not square and require extra thought to make it fit. Good job.
Thank you. Yes in this house there are curved walls

The stud finder joke got me good lol
It’s the rules that you have to make it
A fantastic video as always. I am taking on a similar project to this myself and this has given me some good ideas. Keep up the good work.
Oh, for square walls and ceilings! Nice solution to a tricky (ish) build.
Thank you
Lovely job
Thank you
Nice one. Had same problems in my house!
Always a problem in old houses
nice job !!!

I’m a sparky and it’s the first thing I thought as well. I guess if push comes to shove the whole thing can just be taken down easily enough

Yes I thought that too afterwards. I could always go back and add a strip
@@Badgerworkshop to quote Keith Brown, do your best then caulk the rest!

Timely video Matt, I’ve got to build one around our ugly *rse fuse box 😀. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Matt. Really enjoying your short videos. Need new batteries in the stud Finder!!
Thank you Kim. Yes I will get some new batteries

There is lots I would to differently but it’s an improvement on what was there before
@@Badgerworkshop the consolation of mine
8:15 just need to get those pipe’s boxed in now.
I have this exact job to do on my house. I’ve only been putting it off for 23 years. No sense in rushing these things really.
You will get around to it one day
@@Badgerworkshop I’m loving the confidence Matt.
That little jig used with the bradawl to mark where the hinge goes, where from please. Cheers.

Would have loved it in red or some red accents, a nice contrast, but that is subjective choice.
Does the fuse panel still open ?
It does
Can you still open that consumer unit door ?
Yes
