IF one TRULY is honest then one can simply NOT swear to ANYTHING that involves presumption in the slightest EVEN factoring in "faith" ...The Bible states that salvation is via HOPE and then defines hope specifically in being hope of that NOT SEEN therefore personally I am constrained to honest HOPE in my faith....now my faith I believe to be huge in significant for that which I choose but I'm FORCED in honesty to not lie ..that is to NOT swear to KNOWING that which I honestly simply to do NOT know . What this leaves me with is ZERO in the way of any dogmatic religion ...YET my faith is firmly planted in the Bible BEING the Word of God....HOWEVER if I am honest having read the entirety of Scripture and having spent many years in both study and fervent prayer I simply am forced to discount the Bible LITERALLY that is what I really am convinced is described as "the letter" or "the literal" My best understanding is where the Bible warns us that "the letter KILLS" speaks of the fatal ERROR of placing one's faith IN any personal understanding of the Bible LITERALLY. What does that leave me? EVERYTHING I would say! The ENTIRE Bible still being the WORD of God except now steeped in ALLEGORICAL rather than literal truth. You want to know how I am able to arrive at that and place all of my faith in THAT? For example consider Revelations where it states that the Lord was crucified in Sodom and Egypt! Literally? of course not! But it says the word "SPIRITUALLY"...The Lord was SPIRITUALLY crucified in Sodom and Egypt and NOT literally...now RIGHT THERE in a single passage lies the key to understanding WHAT the word "spiritually" refers to....you can replace that with "allegorically" to make instant progress ...another passage states how "to be SPIRITUALLY minded is Life and Peace but to be caranlly minded is DEATH"....I plead for anyone to be HONEST and NEVER swear according to one's own presumption in the literal Which ALWAYS involves the unrighteous dishonesty of LYING... when EVER on swears to presumption it IS in fact LYING...EVEN if one happens to guess rightly the presumption at the time STILL was an unrighteous LIE simply because it sworn to as an infallible fact when IN fact it was a guess. I could go on and on and on but I believe I have said plenty enough to convict anyone to choose honesty EVERYTIME over swearing to a lie. What I truly believe a person of any intellect finally FREED from dishonesty can then FIND in Scripture is something AMAZING! When ONLY looked at ALLEGORICALLY the Bible FINALLY comes ALIVEand FINALLY actually begins to make ASTOUNDIng sense! It becomes pure genius ! You will have almost no friends in this I can tell you that but you will be finally FREE! "Saved" I dare say....May the Lord guide you in honesty! Peace
One thing to keep in mind is that Revelation 11:8 _says_ that these things are _spiritually_ so. Where scripture doesn't say that, and where the context doesn't tell us otherwise, we must arrive at the conclusion that scripture is literal. While some things are _spiritual_ in nature, most of scripture has a literal meaning, as well as a spiritual meaning, and perhaps even a prophetic meaning (several _layers_ at once, if you will). I for one would rather error towards taking things literally than error towards spiritualizing everything.
