  • Vitality's Steam page is now live in anticipation for a Q4 2020 release! Check it out here: store.steampow... This video is a demonstration of an advanced 3D rendering pipeline that I am currently developing for Game Maker: Studio 1.4. Using a deferred rendering approach, this video showcases several combined effects such as normal & specular mapping, displacement/bump mapping (parallax occlusion), point lighting, directional lighting, and real-time shadows (toggleable per light emitter). The shaders that I have written for this engine are a combination of HLSL (for the GBuffer) and GLSL ES (Deferred effects).
For more information about this and my other works, visit my development blog: www.jaredkrahn....
A demo may be released after further development of the engine.

jared, can you explain how constructing a 3d room is even possible in gamemaker? i'm racking my brain trying to figure this out.

Impressive work! Any reasons why you don't make the move to GMS2?

I'm not against the switch to GMS2, however I have two reasons for not doing it yet. The first one, and most significant, is that I currently use the Master Edition (the expensive one :S) of GMS1.4, and switching to GMS2 would mean having to re-buy GM (the keys don't transfer). The other reason is I'm not personally a fan of the GMS2 IDE UI. I have been using GM for going on 12 years now, so I guess I'm just stubborn to change :P! That said, GMS2 does have some desirable features that GMS1.4 lacks, so I presume I will make the switch eventually.
