  • On January 8, Charles Murray will celebrate his 75th birthday and retire as the W. H. Brady Scholar, shifting to an emeritus role at AEI. In his lecture, Dr. Murray will reflect on his inner dialogue from Thai villages in the 1960s through landmark books such as “Losing Ground” (Basic Books, 1984), “The Bell Curve” (Free Press, 1994), and “Coming Apart” (Crown Forum, 2012) - and on how his values have shaped the questions he asked and how the answers he found have shaped his values.
    Please join AEI for a uniquely personal perspective on Charles Murray’s career as seen from the inside.

    At 59:10, the reference to the "Remnant" is to the Bible, specifically to Isaiah 10 & 11. Nock's article is expressly based on this Biblical source, being titled "Isaiah's Job."

    High IQ people often suffer from depression.

      So do people with high expectations force onto them. Oh! Wait that's due to their environment. SILLY ME. I guess high IQ is debatable.

    Meta-studies show heritability follows averages of all other heritability of traits ranging from a low estimate of 40% to a high of 80%. Take the average call it around 60%.

      Define: "Meta-studies", please.

      Robert Jones Are you serious? Meta-studies are review studies, usually of all major relevant peer reviewed journal articles on a specific subject. IQ is one of the most studied and most reliable psychometric measures and is thus considered by psychologists to be highly reliable.

    • @robertjones1704
      @robertjones1704 6 лет назад

      Yeah I'm fucking serious. Meta can mean anything, anybody wants it to mean in this realm of philosophy. We're talking about philosophy of mind here, with respect to cognitive dissonance, via these social bubbles. Sensation & Perception and the false sense that everyone's world must be similar to only what you experience.
      Meta is a bullshit word, like spiritualism, if its range cannot be defined, and or quantified. It means whatever... pre-abstract. Thus the term needs to be simplified and differentiated from other similar, but more appropriate words.
      Regardless, it's a bullshit term. So when people use bullshit terms, I ask them to define them... so as to steer clear any righteous claims or political rhetoric.
      Let's not act like defining terms is an issue. If you've got problems with people asking what you mean, then you don't belong in this discussion. So take your pretentious bullshit and try to shove it back up your ass.
      IQ began as a eugenics movement... Professionals can't even define intelligence... But I'm just supposed to take your word for it because... "most people don't ask me to define words". Too bad, I'm not most people. That's an appeal to numbers, possibly an appeal to authority, and an appeal to antiquity. A 3-in-1 fallacy... But you know better, right?
      I'm a scientist and I care about intellectual honesty. I care about objective data. I care about the truth. I will never know the full truth, but I can work towards it.
      As a political psychologist in computational research... I can't say I'm convinced IQ or even intelligence, exists.
      -----
      Peer Review: As if peer review actually knows what's it's talking about. Remember... They're full of over-privileged know-it-alls, that have been regurgitating the same shit for the past 60 years, with no end in sight, yet... Their theory fails, today. Peer review is corrupt, and just another wing of the elite.
      By the way, my IQ is 72.

    UBI makes me a little uneasy. How about a UBI that is a multiplier on what is earned, with the typical graduations/brackets associated w income? Better to have people work and try to improve themselves, rather than calculate that UBI alone is sufficient and watch TV.

    • @GingerDrums
      @GingerDrums 3 года назад +2

      In fact, self reporting and the existing UBI experiments do not confirm this perspective. 84% of people engage in work if they are guaranteed a minimum basic income. over 90% of people think other people will just be lazy. In essence, people are not lazy, they just think other people are. This is a non-controversial result and has been repeated in Finnland, Canada and New Zealand.

    • @user-tl5yb1jy7c
      @user-tl5yb1jy7c 3 года назад

      @@GingerDrums 2 years later, i am no longer open minded about UBI. It's a socialist scam, and people can have my money for free w no conditions. A little thing called inflation makes ubi a simple wealth transfer for hard working people to bums.

    Murray's ideal of character is arbitrary as it is "convenient", the Goldberg types would have cried against fighting a king over taxes, it wouldn't be civilized they would say, they would make every excuse possible to lose the day.
