That keyboard man is not so awesome nowadays, he converted to Christianity, burned all of his old Nocturnus merch and kept the band name to himself so that Mike couldn't use it when they reformed. If he had just became a Christian and left the band, that's one thing, but he seems to holding a petty grudge against the other guys.
I helped put on a show in 1990 with these guys. It was amazing to hang out with all of them along with Napalm Death&Godflesh. Wow what an amazing day I'll never forget! Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen!
Still listening to this album some 26 years after buying it. It really felt like "the key" to other dimensions, a succesful mix of sci-fi, technicality and, yes, spirituality, in its own peculiar way. How have the mighty fallen? It makes one think... Anyway, two questions if you have bothered to read: -Who is the bass player in the video? -Do you know of any bands that might have carried the torch since?
I know it's been two years but if you haven't check out Vektor, you definitely need to check them out, listen to "Black Future" album, it's my favorite, they're not death but thrash metal though
I would say that Tomb Mold and Blood Incantation are getting there. They're also death metal and use sci-fi themes in their music. Nocturnus is far more superior compared to them though.
just in case anyone cares or was wondering, this is the second documented Technical death metal LP release as far as I know, only predated by Atheist's Piece of time.
This band were true innovators! They pushed boundaries and set standards in the early 90's that other death metal bands began to emmulate at the time! Pestilence's-Testimony of the Ancients is a prime example of this. Nocturnus's unique sound is the reason why I found/find this band so appealing. They sounded like no one else, and no one sounded like them!!! Bands today are missing a signature sound that so many bands in the 80's and early 90's had. Most bands today are clones of other bands! Hardly any of them draw an influence from a band they like, and then develope their own sound! A damn shame!
Awesome. Classic tune. I've watched segments of the video before on the Nocturnus Hard N Heavy interview segment but never the full video. Thank you very much for posting it. Much appreciated. By the way, if you can also get the actual video for Reek Of Putrefaction by Carcass which was on their Hard N Heavy interview segment, you gratuate to godhood. Hail Nocturnus.
The classic Earache Records comp,"Grindcrusher" (1990) is where I first heard this song and first discovered Nocturnus (and a ton of other ass-kicking bands!). The rest of their album ("The Key") definitely didn't disappoint either!
Damn...this is one of the most fucking awesome Death Metal bands. It's a shame they are not as well known as the big names of Death Metal, in my opinion.
i heard Mike Browning and Richard Brunelle( the original rhythm guitarist for morbid angel) are starting a band together i can't wait til they come out with an album
Azagthoth didn't wear t-shirts of other bands in general. When I saw it i said, it is definitely something mind blowing from other universe. And it was of course
Vinny V Well he used to sing on early Morbid so I guess is not of an idea from other band, I mean he is just the singer who happens to be the drummer also
@@TheReturnOED yeah sure , often a context . But Dan beehler ( Exciter ) was an influence . My teacher from Satan jokers used to play drums annd sing while sharing the vocals with the frontman in early 1980s .
I dont know if Mike knew of that band but actually Death and massacre guys were fan of it . French metal . They even wore the shirt on from beyond album . Satan jokers was the creator of heavy metal fusion . 15 yeaes ahead the game
Dat epic zoom at 0:52 hahaha. Fucking great band.
I crashed my car into a fence while listening to this song in 1992😅
1st time I seen the vid.. I never knew the drummer was the singer🤘🤘🤘
Fue el cantante original de Mórbida Angel en todos sus demos
The Drum kit should be at the front of the stage...
I'll NEVER get tired of this song/video! Mike Browning doesn't get enough credit for being the great drummer/performer that he is.
True!
And pionner too
Underrated band with killer albums!
Drums and vocals! What a beast 😶
Keyboard man is awsome and Browning have great vocal, I don't know why people say he isn't great singer
Who says he isn't a great singer? With all the venom Vincent lyrically spewed in early M.A., Browning was even better.
I dunno, his vocal delivery is more suited to Thrash. Then again, maybe he wanted to do something different instead of doing Growls.

YEAHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRUMSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is pure gold!
Mike just turned 19 when they recorded this video. I'm talking about the lead guitarist!
Mike Davis was born 1970, he turned 20 the year The Key was released...
I helped put on a show in 1990 with these guys. It was amazing to hang out with all of them along with Napalm Death&Godflesh. Wow what an amazing day I'll never forget! Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen!
These guys on this album and Bolt Thrower were my gateway into death metal.

Ingremance I think vektor and atheist carried the torch but in different ways. I don't know the bass player either.
Ingremance the bassist is called Jim O' Sullivan who filed in on the tour for the absence of Jeff estes

Kinda looks like Gary Holt.
Bones crushing
skulls smashing
in the vice
of Hell
Demons shoving
tortured souls
in the lake
of fire

Damn that's tight!
killer album.
Amazing!!!!
Great video! I remember when these guys first came out years ago. They have a unique sound and mix for death metal.
The golden age.....
Back when Florida was the place to be for metal
just in case anyone cares or was wondering, this is the second documented Technical death metal LP release as far as I know, only predated by Atheist's Piece of time.
Fantastic song!
ooh havent listened to this in a while, i forgot how ridiculously awesome it is
awesome, great sound, great band
Some video has been legendary.
Очень классная группа. Я бы поставил в один ряд альбом The Key и Spiritual Healing, классика.
The first tech death band (though Atheist might claim that title as well)!
Never knew they had a video all these years. Bought the cassette tape when it first came out. Thanks for the video!!!!
Que maravilla de vídeo

Grande NOCTURNUS ...se viene el 7/5/2016 en "CHILE".
My favorite DM band.
Bruce Dickinson on drums/vocals.
I wonder if Mike Browning was pissed off at Mike Davis for wearing a morbid angel shirt
***** Apparently Mikes GF cheated on him with Trey and Mike left right after that.
BGB IG why would he be? dumb
Trey Azagthoth had an affair with his girlfriend

Morbid Angel appears in The key's inner insert greetings/"Thanks to" section.
Yeah Mike was made for a bit, but he got over it. He's too nice of a dude to hold a grudge.
They are my very first find when I wanted to learn metal on my own.
Sick
