Ted saying in an interview that he only wanted to wrestle a couple more years because he didn't want to wrestle forever cemented his non-push. Telling the company you work for you won't be there very long makes it hard for them to invest in you.
You know the more I think of it, Legacy with Rhodes and DiBiase are a very underrated team when it comes to their work in the ring. It would have been nice if they had a longer run after they split from Orton.
For anyone not up to speed; Orton enlisted with the Marines way back in 98, less than a year later he was discharged for bad conduct (he liked going AWOL and disobeying his superiors).
Yep... that's just like the military to get all pissy and upset over something so silly. Marines and soldiers are delicate tempremental little flowers.
No-one else remembers that the Ted & Cody duo were initially known as 'Priceless' and that Manu actually joined them before all 3 eventually hooked up with Orton and got rebranded as Legacy........? Cody was great during the Dashing & Un-Dashing era.
Yeah, when I first got back into WWE in 08, they were a highlight of Raw for me. It was only when Orton started feuding with HHH headed into Mania that they really started to come off like lackeys IMO.
I've always loved Cody. Since his "Dashing" character, you could always say he gave it 100 percent. He gave it all with Dashing, Un-dashing, Stardust, his "fired" interview with the brotherhood vs. the Authority really sold that for me, his "gold fish" brained character on the JBL & Cole show was absolutely hilarious, and the man got a damn mustache over!
I genuinely believed Ted would be the standout of Legacy long before they gave us any hints that they wanted him to be, and it was all because of Cody's fear of knee pads. It was a really bad look for the RollerCodester!
@dasiareed2708 If you go back and look at Cody and Ted during their Legacy days, Ted had the more typical look of a WWE Superstar. Cody looked a little skinnier and it wasn't helped by him not wearing his kneepads over his knees.
Absolutely love all the content you're all putting out recently, you can really tell you've taken your time and enjoy making the videos, they're very informative and thought provoking, thankyou to all of you, keep up the good work it's really really appreciated!
I still remember Ted DiBiase for the segment he cut when he fired Virgil to replace him with Maryse. Virgil: You need me Ted, What you gonna do if you need protection?? DiBiase: Go to the drug store. Just epic stuff.. Ps. Fun Fact: the name of their Tag Team was Priceless.
I actually loved Legacy. I was only 13 when they formed lol. Cody was my favorite back then, mainly because my pops favorite was Dusty, and I grew up watching old JCP, WCCW, Mid South, basically old school wrestling. My pops absolutely loved Dusty and when I learned Cody was Dustys boy, that was my guy. Especially when he broke his nose and started wearing the facial shield, his character work was so good. Ted DiBiase was good, but I loved Cody more. DiBiase had the edge of the 2 in terms of being more natural in the ring while Cody showed promise in his character work and charisma. It's funny they were being mentored by Randy Orton, since Randy is basically the best of both worlds and is such a damn good natural wrestler and his in ring charisma is off the charts.
I remember when they were coming in that everyone said Dibiase was going to be the breakout, and I just did not see it. Cody just had something about him.
I loved Legacy, and always had an appeal for Ted Jr. I hoped they beat Randy at Mania to give them a decent singles run. They let so many guys go sink in deep waters, i wish they gave that opportunity to Legacy
It wasn’t a handicapped match though? It was a triple threat at Mania 26 (although i understand how confusing that is since they basically double teamed Randy the entire match lol). One of them was going to lose anyways so Vince figured they both should lose lol.
The split story-line was always awkward at best though...... One of them were always destined to lose at WM, plus Orton was still only just entering him prime so wasn't best placed to be jobbing in order to create new stars.
i first saw cody when he inducted his dad in the HOF with his brother, dustin. and something about how he came off made me take notice of him. when he started wrestling and teaming with holly and ted jr. i was like, "he's gonna be something big one day". when they went their separate ways, i kept up that faith that cody was gonna break out. and i'm proud to say that he's not only fulfilled my decades long expectations, he's surpassed them.
I remember when he did the tailgating gimmick he did a RUclips show like Zack Ryder with Z True Long Island called The DiBiase Posse but only made like 3 episodes
There were two things that really frustrated me about Raw's tag division during this time. 1) the fact that they wouldn't give Cryme Tyme the titles. 2) Watching how Cody usually took the pins and the worst of the beatdowns in Legacy in favor of Ted Jr despite the fact that even when they were both bland/character-less wrestlers, Cody still outshined him. I always found him way more entertaining in the ring and when they both got a chance to talk, what they said was never anything special but as far as how they said it, Cody always had better delivery to me.
I actually liked Ted Dibiase Jr. he wasn't the most charismatic or interesting but he was pretty passable and looked comfortable enough alongside Randy & Cody, wouldn't mind seeing him back one day. But tbf as a singles star he got about as good as he could, he didn't get over with the crowd and after Legacy split up he no longer fancied himself a wrestler.
I think alot of it had to do with the fact Cody knew how to break out on his own from his dad's shadow and Ted while pretty good in the ring wasn't really over and instead of break out from his father's shadow on his own, he kind of accepted his fate and will be lucky if the feds don't imprison him the rest of his mid life.
So Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes had more success than Ted DiBiase Jr. I enjoyed the 2009 trio until Orton's slow babyface turn came around for WrestleMania 26. Wished the 3 had a longer length as a group or do a reunion before DiBiase Jr. was released while Rhodes asked to be let go in 2016.
Funny how (20/20 hindsight saying this) wwe pushed the wrong one after the break up heavy and it’s even more funny knowing that the one they didn’t push and give him his own character after character to carve out his own identity ended up being the biggest one and he did it using his dads name.
6:55 ..."million dollar **buster**"???!?!? 🤨 I'm pretty sure it's called the "Million Dollar **Dream**" 🧐 I missed that era & just started getting back into wrestling in the past few years, so maybe I missed something but a Google search doesn't bring up anything about a "million dollar buster"...unless it was a modified choke-hold into a face slam on the mat similar to the Miz's Skull-Crushing Finale (which would actually pretty cool, to be honest) I don't think that there is a "million dollar buster" 🤔 EDIT: Okay, I did just find that first match & yes, it **is** a modified Million Dollar Dream into a sort of 'reverse' Skull-Crushing Finale 😁 mea culpa, my bad 😊 still, a Google search doesn't bring it up & I haven't seen enough matches to know if that's what the announce table actually ended up calling it or not, so no harm no foul 😎
? Nexus? I'm sorry but Cody and Ted got to beat DX lol and as a faction name routinely got the upper hand on whoever they were against. Randy Orton won multiple WWE titles with their help. I would barely call that a failure. If anything it would have helped had they been around a little bit longer.
They should all three been world champions.. WWE heavyweight world champions each Cody and Ted.. so they're seven-time world tag team champions? That should put them up there as one of the greatest tag teams ever in the history of WWE
Look at where we are now Cody Rhodes has experienced a tremendous amount of success outside of WWE and is now back in WWE and is now being booked as a main eventer. On the other hand, Ted DibiAse has achieved pretty much nothing and retired about 10 years ago and is now on the verge of getting sent to prison for 45 years.
A .. if you think 🤔 about it... Randy Orton is the premier thought of a a wrestler that has experience, respect, mistek and believability. He looks like a bad ass . Never did anything that didn't fit. Has been champion like 14 times royal rumble winner 🏆 probably a couple of times. Id have his career and legacy just as much as I would with Austin, the rock or undertaker... The only 3 I wouldn't completely compare him to is Hogan, sting, or maybe hbk to be fair lol some what like ric flair.
I’m going to say this with no regrets, prior to AEW and New Japan, I thought Ted was the better worker. Then and especially now though, Cody was the better entertainer, he got a Vega mask, a moustache and $1 bet over like gangbusters (and he did ok with Stardust).
I wish I knew if the Four Horsemen had Children who also Wrestled today they did them Old guys dirty by making Four Horsewomen members with Charlotte(who is greatness) then paired her with Sasha Bank & Becky(which tho they're the Greatest don't have any Connection to the Old Team)
Never understood why WWE preferred DeBiase over Rhodes. While it's probably not his fault DeBiase was a solid but somewhat vanilla talent. Ok but nothing that stood out. he was like most guys back then. Rhodes while still green at the time did show he could deliver much better promos than DeBiase.
wasnt Orton canned from marine 2 due to the USMC refusing any help or advice if WWE used someone with a dishonourable discharge from them in the named role or is this just internet hype?
Virgil to be his... say it! They brought him in to play the same role as in the 90s, a servant. How hard is it to say servant.Virgil, know your role, and shut your mouth.
"Where's that referee? He was trying to f*** on me!" That's Ted's legacy. A mighty fine legacy at that.
Yes I’m so happy someone posted this 😂
Only marks like you and I know that story lol. We are true marks!🤣
Cody & Hardcore Holly felt like that Raw Vs Smackdown story mode tag team they force you to be in to get the belts
Lmao 😭😭
Cody was essentially a blank CAW and positioned as such, so that checks out.
One thing Randy Orton also got passed over for The Marine 2 due to veterans groups upset they'd have a dishonored vet in a military role.
I do believe they got blowback from that yeah
For anyone not up to speed; Orton enlisted with the Marines way back in 98, less than a year later he was discharged for bad conduct (he liked going AWOL and disobeying his superiors).
Yep... that's just like the military to get all pissy and upset over something so silly. Marines and soldiers are delicate tempremental little flowers.
@@spacefaringyoshi pretty sure he even had an army tattoo (which has long, long since been covered obvs, but yeah)
If I remember right, he was considered for the first three films. And Bob Holly was also considered for the second film.
No-one else remembers that the Ted & Cody duo were initially known as 'Priceless' and that Manu actually joined them before all 3 eventually hooked up with Orton and got rebranded as Legacy........?
Cody was great during the Dashing & Un-Dashing era.
Always loved Legacy as a team. Wish it lasted longer and they were used better as a group but I get why they were broke up
Yeah, when I first got back into WWE in 08, they were a highlight of Raw for me. It was only when Orton started feuding with HHH headed into Mania that they really started to come off like lackeys IMO.

Cody was just an excellent mic worker and could get any gimmick over.
I genuinely believed Ted would be the standout of Legacy long before they gave us any hints that they wanted him to be, and it was all because of Cody's fear of knee pads. It was a really bad look for the RollerCodester!
Huh?
@dasiareed2708 If you go back and look at Cody and Ted during their Legacy days, Ted had the more typical look of a WWE Superstar. Cody looked a little skinnier and it wasn't helped by him not wearing his kneepads over his knees.

You forgot Richie Steamboat in the opening list.
I remember when they were coming in that everyone said Dibiase was going to be the breakout, and I just did not see it. Cody just had something about him.
Ted really did turn into a low budget version of his dad. He even became a con-man and pretended to be religious just like his dad.
Jack, that is NOT why Randy was not allowed to star in a film called "The Marine".
Cough* dishonorable discharge *cough
Like Martin Billany would say, that's a AWOL other story.
I loved Legacy, and always had an appeal for Ted Jr. I hoped they beat Randy at Mania to give them a decent singles run. They let so many guys go sink in deep waters, i wish they gave that opportunity to Legacy

Well done fellas. Jack you always present these episodes very well, and whomever writes, produces, and edits these are wonderful as well. Cheers!
Did Orton leave The Marine because he was dishonourably discharged from the actual Marines, so wouldn't have gone down too well?
yup. *exactly* why the role went to someone else
(that sounded sarcastic but wasn't meant to be)
Yeah, vets got pissy about it.
No he left cuz he RKO the sergeant
Would not mind seeing a Ted DeBasie Jr comeback
i first saw cody when he inducted his dad in the HOF with his brother, dustin. and something about how he came off made me take notice of him. when he started wrestling and teaming with holly and ted jr. i was like, "he's gonna be something big one day". when they went their separate ways, i kept up that faith that cody was gonna break out.
and i'm proud to say that he's not only fulfilled my decades long expectations, he's surpassed them.
damn you 30
It's really is a shame. I do like Ted. After legacy break up bad booking, gimmick and injuries at bad time really derailed him.
I wondered what happened to them as a team. I still love their theme
I remember when he did the tailgating gimmick he did a RUclips show like Zack Ryder with Z True Long Island called The DiBiase Posse but only made like 3 episodes
legacy was an underrated team and faction, but i'm glad at least dibiase seems to be doing well where he is now.
The really shouldve given crime time the belts
I met Ted a few years ago and he is the nicest dude
Cody is definetely the next WWE Champion & the face of the company
Great piece in general, just lacking a "Fuck on Me" reference
I actually liked Ted Dibiase Jr. he wasn't the most charismatic or interesting but he was pretty passable and looked comfortable enough alongside Randy & Cody, wouldn't mind seeing him back one day. But tbf as a singles star he got about as good as he could, he didn't get over with the crowd and after Legacy split up he no longer fancied himself a wrestler.
Love these documentaries
Great video, Jack!!
Speaking of Cody Rhodes you have to do the true story of him and Dustin vs the Shield I think that would be a very good video
Who knew that I'm the end Ted would have more in common with the Million Dollar Man character than we thought.🤣
Great video, love this series
Family, legacy, tradition, ritual. These are all powerful things
Love these Jack keepem coming 👌
They was 3 legacy talents in the Elimination Chamber Match. Scott Armstrong was the Ref
I guess The Marine 2 did help Dibiase career as a Movie Star or a Mega Star Wrestler.
I remember when WWE switched to HD and I could suddenly see Cody’s chest hair. Aaah, technology
Mustached Cody is my favorite 🗿
It's the refs fault
Love this series!
Lineage of stars from Hof parents 💯. Crazy how WWE couldn't start a new ruthless aggression era AT LEAST
Cody's time with the face shield was awesome.
Why all the hate on stardust?
Great video
And briefly Teddy Hart ... Yeah, that about sums it up.
Now Ted Dibiase is in jail for 5 years
I loved Legacy
Nice video
So Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes had more success than Ted DiBiase Jr. I enjoyed the 2009 trio until Orton's slow babyface turn came around for WrestleMania 26. Wished the 3 had a longer length as a group or do a reunion before DiBiase Jr. was released while Rhodes asked to be let go in 2016.

Micheal Rooker was in The Marine 2

I do miss Ted
Legacy!!! The greatest faction to fail

That ring announcers kid looks like she signed a NDA

cody won the intercontinental championship in several occasion and made a big impact
ted jr well he is getting there but life is not so good for him
Missed your voice Mr. Jobber
Here after Cody's WWE Champion.
I’m going to say this with no regrets, prior to AEW and New Japan, I thought Ted was the better worker. Then and especially now though, Cody was the better entertainer, he got a Vega mask, a moustache and $1 bet over like gangbusters (and he did ok with Stardust).
Unpopular opinion. I liked the stardust character. At least as part of a tag team with goldust
I like ted we all miss hiim
I wish I knew if the Four Horsemen had Children who also Wrestled today
they did them Old guys dirty by making Four Horsewomen members with Charlotte(who is greatness) then paired her with Sasha Bank & Becky(which tho they're the Greatest don't have any Connection to the Old Team)
The DiBiase Posse
Orton was replaced in The Marine 2 because the Marine Corp objected to a disgraced, dishonorabley discharged former member playing a Marine.
Gotta admit..The blond headed heel is always a draw..and being great doing a promo is a added bonus
This video could be a hour long easy
"a poor man's million dollar man"
aka 5-pound Ted?
Ted went to help his dad rip the church folks.
"Starring role in a movie..." Lol. Technically it was a film yes, but it certainly was never going to be a jump pad to success.
i like this video
Never understood why WWE preferred DeBiase over Rhodes.
While it's probably not his fault DeBiase was a solid but somewhat vanilla talent. Ok but nothing that stood out. he was like most guys back then.
Rhodes while still green at the time did show he could deliver much better promos than DeBiase.
Ted Jr had the good sense to be the son of Ted DiBiase rather than Dusty Rhodes and still did worse out of the two of them
What do you mean?
Randy didn't get the because he was dishonorabley discharged from the. Military and they were a sponsor
To be his Virgil
I was not watching during that time did they ever bring up the fact there fathers were rivals and they become partners
wasnt Orton canned from marine 2 due to the USMC refusing any help or advice if WWE used someone with a dishonourable discharge from them in the named role or is this just internet hype?
No knee pads or elbow pads always looks so weird.
Benny Hill
Ted DiBiase had it all, but he isn't even in the business anymore.
When i watching this when i was a kid i prefer rhodes than dibiasi
Ted Dibiase jnr and Curtis Axel the same dude
uh... no? if that's true then there were also two Ultimate Warriors
Legacy was a terrible stunt, which only worked to bury four young guys, all to Ortons PR.
C'mon, wrestling needs more hissing martians. 👽 🤣😂
I'm sorry but Cody used to have a wierd face....
He got plastic face surgery, a nose job and veneers for his Dashing gimmick
26th!
hall of Famer ready
bo October 2022
Erick king of Friday
up phone okay Adam Pearce 👔😷💵🤳
😍❤️
Virgil to be his... say it! They brought him in to play the same role as in the 90s, a servant. How hard is it to say servant.Virgil, know your role, and shut your mouth.
Dibiase was about as good at wrestling as he was at welfare fraud 😏
Cody is a glorified midcarder who is over just because of his lineage.
This D.B. Arsey fella sounds like a lost opportunity.
Teddie wasn't talented thats it.
First
congratulations
Now hes probably getting prison time. Wild.
