My Art teacher showed me Immortal Technique back in 2006 in my Freshmen year of High School. I listened to rappers like Lil Wayne and T.I. around that time. I loved MTV and never heard about rap music having a message. He played the track "Speak Your Mind" from Revolutionary Vol. 1 and we listened to the song as we had a printed sheet of paper with the lyrics on it. He was like how many of you like HipHop? I raised my hand and he said shout out some names you kids listen to. I obviously said the rappers I was proud to mention and after everyone said their favorites he told us about a rapper he listens to by the name of Immortal Technique. I didn't think much of it afterwards until my Sophomore year. I went back to his class room one day and I asked him.. "Hey Mr. B, umm whats the name of that rapper you showed us last year? ... umm I know it was a year ago but I really want to check him out." Boy did he create the kick start to me taking an interest in history and politics. By the time I got to my Senior year I was thinking about my future heavily. I didn't want to be that typical hispanic kid from the ghetto and actually be someone. I decided to go to art school and now have a BA Degree in Graphic Design and started my career. I create conscious art with a message and the purpose I gave myself is to make a mark on the world with art and help others have an open mindset. This man's music really inspired me and I ran with it. I want to make him proud and meet him one day and say thank you for being alive, your music really made an impact on me with my life decisions. This is just one way he inspired me but you guys get the gist of it.
+جبريل أوفال I truly love how you story illustrates the fact that substance, when confronting shallowness, usually prevails. We'll probably never hear of some dude who's into Immortal Technique or Nas, and one day he comes across Pitbull and decides to diss the former in favour of the latter. I'd be real surprised if that every happened. That's like an atheist reading the bible for the first time and exclaiming: "Water-walking Jesus, of course! This makes complete sense!". And then joining a church the following day. The realness of life needs no indoctrination. Thank you for sharing your story; and part of yourself.
IT also changed my life in 9th grade. IT, GZA, deck changed my outlook on hip hop which I avoided during the bling bling era. You say 'hispanic' because you are from Spain/Portugal?
Wow, this is one of the best interviews I have ever watched. This was not only "a artist doing an interview" this was a philosopher, a politician, a revolutionist, a lover, a hustler, a man of the world giving an interview. Amazing.
"I got a crazy memory" damn man he MUST, how a man as young as himself ingests and processes as much information, intelligence and wisdom as this amazes me. I got a huge amount of respect for this man right here. Peace.
I watch this interview every once in a while like it's a really good movie, one of the most unique men on Earth right there, if I want to get some inspiration from somewhere I just bump this interview! You can't get realer than this, you just can't, that's what a human being should be like!
+Keith Grenier you look white yourself. Why don't you get your head out of your ass and stop being so negative? oh he's white so he's not allowed to fuck with technique? fuck outta here
+Nemo Rhymes I am 14 and this is some real shit. I wish my generation knew about real hip hop and whats actually going on around the world. For some reason I can't get them to understand. But what can I do?
Immortal Technique is an amazing truthful rapper, I come from Colombia and I'm proud to see this great Latino rapper. What I like about Immortal Technique is that he isn't scared to express what he feels, he says whatever he wants to say. This guy has inspired me by his music he's intelligent and teaches you something new each time you listen to all his songs.
I have been listening to your music ever since i was in university back in the 2000s, you brother influenced a lot of my political views. I love you and your family, and what you do, one day when i earn enough money to attend one of your performance, i wish to fly and bask in your performances, much love, many good wishes for you. Its been years and you are still the wisest hip hop artist i have come across after KR1's story. Mo power to you and your team!
+Cris LeRoi I'm 15 and from a ghetto in sweden and actully gets i.I'm hopein' that people actully know that people from other parts in the world can rap
Immortal Technique, simply put out, has a thorough understanding of life in general and has a solid and deep reflection about many subjects. I admire how this amazing rapper seeks to send a message throughout every song he makes and he doesn't embellish any of his messages.
Immortal Technique was my idol, is my idol, and will always be my idol. My older sister's then boyfriend introduced me to him when I was in middle school. Since then, Tech has had a profound impact on my life. I have always looked toward him for guidance, inspiration, and intellectual insight on the issues that I found important. I often find myself quoting and referring him to my peers. I have to thank God for making such a phenomenal person and overall amazing human being. Viva la revolution!
This is someone you can actually have a conversation with. He knows what he's talking about and I can honestly say, he is one of the most intelligent people I've ever heard. Best interview by far. Wise man, good heart. I truly look up to you.
Only intellectually stimulating words I've ever heard come out of a rappers mouth. Thank you "Immortal Technique" for restoring a small amount of faith in hip hop for me.
I love what he said about death at the end. So true! I always knew he was intelligent enough to realize that no one really knows what happens and anyone who claims to know is a liar.
Damn, I've been burning through these Montreality interviews; they're good as shit. No annoying interviewer, just the uncut responses by the subjects. Love it.
Immortal Technique and Akala are truely wise Hip-Hop artists who are true to its roots. This is real Hip-Hop, and thank you both for teaching me about it so I can truly appreciate it.
I love hip hop and have never listened to a tech cd....im not a fan of his because of his music but for his words and knowledge...i think he has potential to reach every type of person out there, god bless on the rest of your journy...thank u tech for your sacrifices
Man, you don't wanna know what a fan I am.. Immortal Technique has insane songs, that are going deeper than I ever heard in hiphop. In the interviews he's a really wise man. But he also talks very understandable. And his live performance is INSANE. Man really i'v been to his show in amsterdam a few days ago, sickest show i'v ever seen. Immortal Technique is legend. word up!
This is what I grew up with, this man- his lyrics, his wise words and his teachings. This is what my children will grow up with. What kind of society do we live in where an artist like this isn't acknowledged by the mainstream media but an "artist" who makes a sex guide with their shit and recycled lyrics is deemed 'talented'. I guess an artist who consistently educates and challenges our minds intellectually isn't something that the media can benefit from. Mad respect to Immortal Technique.
Thankyou man this interview changed my life. Immortal has a way of viewing somthing with no prediques and get the honist truth out of any situation. Revolutionary mastermind. Much respect my friend.
He is such an honest person, and he's very smart about his choice of words. If every rapper was like Immortal Technique, we would instantly have global revolution.
You have to admire the rating on this Video. The percentage of people giving it a thumbs down is almost laughable. barely a ripple in a pool of water in the internet among the wave of thumbs up. Keep inspiring and informing Immortal Techique
Thank you! I can relate so much to being a smart but "bad" student. “Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.” ― Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed
Realest words I've ever heard. We all think that we can gain power by inflicting pain on others individuals. But, True power comes from people loving you and willing to sacrifice for you, not forcing individuals to sacrifice for you. That’s the difference between “Demanding Respect” and “Commanding Respect”. And anybody who doesn’t know the difference between those two, doesn’t understand respect and probably never got any in their life.
I could sit and listen to him for hours. If I don't know what he's talking about, it make's me want to research information just so I can understand. I wish he was my teacher when I was in school, who knows where I'd be!
First few minutes explain exactly why I have my kids listening to 80s and 90s hip hop so they know the roots and can have a true appreciation for the craft, rhythms, lyrics, message and impact of what hip hop means to me
Immortal Technique for President! Now! He is the true change! He can also bring light to the young minds that are deaf to many issues that we have in our country and around the world. One of the many few that cares enough to fight!
I'm having an experience which is slowly teaching me that confidence and fearlessness is the key to living. Confidence that your own insists will lead you on the path to your heaven. Fearlessness to actually walk the path of your own design.
This guy is so awesome. Great life lessons even if you never heard of him or listened at any of his songs. Love from France and thank you fro your great work Tech.
When you love someone you see yourself as the best that you will ever be through their eyes. You see yourself as the strongest as the prettiest or the most handsome; a person that believes in you so much that you believe in yourself, that's why you feel like you're leaving a part of yourself when you leave that person. Because you are. . .
he is amazing. Loved what he said about love, it was amazing - also the beginning about education system was amazing. It shows how shallow the majority of people are. Also I liked the way he answered what will happen when we die, even though he "dont know", all he knows however is that the rusted gates do not exist.
"Because we're all the same people and we all think that we can gain power by inflicting pain on other individuals, but true power comes from people loving you and willing to sacrifice for you, not forcing individuals to sacrifice for you. That's the difference between demanding respect, and commanding respect"
This interview has pretty much set my future in stone. I will be graduating from a University in December with two and a half degrees. One in business and the other in French (The 1/2 being a minor in global business).. I've been pondering for the longest about whether I wanted to join the corporate world or find a way to make a living on my own doing what I love to do and I am definitely choosing the latter. I'd rather get my own wealth instead being fed crumbles by corporate america. Thx man
Much respect for the bit of french in the intro. Ça va bien mon chum, ça va bien. Always informative and interesting to hear Tech speak on real issues.
I was just thinking the other day that Immortal probably has only ever performed "You Never Know" a couple times. You can tell just the mention of it brings up bad memories. Stay strong Immortal. You've got a lot of fans that love you. You need to release your books. I could listen or read you for days.

Glad to know that you have had a political and intellectual awakening.
+جبريل أوفال Great comment to read. I hope you find ways in which to open the eyes of the young as your teacher did for you.
+جبريل أوفال I truly love how you story illustrates the fact that substance, when confronting shallowness, usually prevails.
We'll probably never hear of some dude who's into Immortal Technique or Nas, and one day he comes across Pitbull and decides to diss the former in favour of the latter. Much respect for the bit of french in the intro. Ça va bien mon chum, ça va bien. Always informative and interesting to hear Tech speak on real issues.
He speaks the truth instead of keep repeating ''you know what I'm saying". Teach the kids, Tech!
that was worth 40 min of my life thanks
So much respect.
respect. Immortal Tech is a great guy.
I was just thinking the other day that Immortal probably has only ever performed "You Never Know" a couple times. You can tell just the mention of it brings up bad memories. Stay strong Immortal. You've got a lot of fans that love you. You need to release your books. I could listen or read you for days.
The physical may die, but the message will live on and so will his songs.
Yo Tech, if you ever see this message, THANK YOU FOR THIS INTERVIEW. Real inspiring shit.
I just saw on Tek's twitter that he's going to be on the Joe Rogan Experience on July 25.
I remember seeing some upvoted comments on one of these [awesome] interview vids proposing they make that happen, and it looks like they actually did.
It should be really great to hear what kind of insightful stuff comes out of that meeting of the minds. I'm so glad to see this is really gonna happen!

He raises money to build schools in Afghanistan. He went to Haiti after the Earthquakes to help rebuild, stayed there for a few months and assisted in raising donations. He works at many inner city schools to help kids stay out of gangs and get scholarships. He's not some arm-chair-activist, he gets out on the front-lines to help the less fortunate.
