    I bought this scope a couple of months ago after I saw you use it, especially as it has two channels which are BNC connections. Haven't needed it yet, but I'm glad I got it. 👍🙂

    The code, mode6 and misfire history and current misfire on scan data tell which cylinder, that scope test verifies your sound suspicion, AC coupling only shows AC voltage which in this case is generated by the starter motor turning, it is called back emf and it acts as a resistance thus current draw goes down the faster the starter spins, and the faster the start spins the greater the ac voltage generated.
    Great video thanks for making it.
    Another video going into more detail on the scope setting would be great.
    Also, with that secondary pick up you will see longer burn time on secondary ignition wave form compared to a good cylinder, because less pressure in the bad cylinder due to mechanical misfire requires less energy to jump plug gap thus more energy left to keep electron flow going.

    Cool. If you take the reciprocal of your plot it would show you the pattern you would get with with an amp clamp (V=IR). I set my pico 2204A to DC when doing voltage based compression tests. It is sensitive enough to give absolute and relative data. One more thing: You can put a US quarter with a lead touching it on an ignition coil and get a nice waveform.

    Great video! I've been wanting to get into using an oscilloscope. The Pico unfortunately is way out of my budget. It looks like Hantek has tablet oscilloscopes that record information. They seem reasonably priced. This would give a larger screen without having to use a laptop. Have you seen these and what are your thoughts as to whether they would work for automotive?

    • @advancedleveldiagnostics
      @advancedleveldiagnostics  3 месяца назад +1

      I really don't know; I was curious about that, too. I chose this one because it was really cheap 😃 and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Before this I was using the uScope but the connection for the micro BNC kept breaking. The scope I learned on was the Pico 2204a, the downside like you mentioned is you need a laptop.

    Hey! Really big fan, i wanted to ask you im looking for a Oscilloscope, im a mechanic i work on my own and love your videos right now i have a Kia that is dying intermittently and it does it not to often, so i wanted to finally add a oscilloscope to my box, but i wanted to ask for your recommendation, one that can record i guess so i can drive the car and after the fail happens i can rewatch and see if its cam or crank signal, i have look into some Fnisrn handhell 2 chanels ones and a Hantek that looks like a Pico 8channel that you plug to a PC, anyway, any recommendations would be nice, i dont live in the US but i can import stuff from there, and my budget is not huge thats why i dont go for a Pico, well thanks for your answer in advance!

    • @advancedleveldiagnostics
      @advancedleveldiagnostics  3 месяца назад +1

      If you don't mind using one with a PC, I would recommend the Pico 2204a. It's around $130 here in the US. It uses its own Pico software, which is very similar to the Automotive software; it just does not have the guided tests. They also have a 4-channel version for a higher price. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Having a sync doesn't really help you if you don't know the firing order.. But yes, the scantool should tell you which cylinder is dropping. It's not a bad idea to put a bore scope down in the spark plug hole and see if it's a burnt valve or something... Maybe a hole in the piston, possibly

    • @advancedleveldiagnostics

    Dodge is one of the few that cuts spark on a clear flood crank. Very irritating! Dodge 3.6l engines also have some noisy current patterns during a relative compression half of the time too.
