When a narcissist snaps, lol. His character is vaccinating on many levels, we are kept guessing as to why he acts like he does. He plays the role of a nice guy superhero by choice, but he knows he isn't one and cares less about people other than they are needed to worship him. So, a part of him needs to be worshipped and he can't get that as a bad guy. I'm not sure if his father is that way, he's an ass and needs no worshipping, lol. I think he's more tactical than you give him credit, he tried to get his son's love just by being his father, when that failed he tried the, look what I have tactic, when that failed, he tried yelling and almost demanded love from his son, when that failed, he did the 180 and said, I was wrong this whole time, from now on, no more rules. Again, these are tactics, if this fails, try that. A true narcissist can't understand why a son wouldn't love him. I doubt any human could have his powers and not be a narcissist. I've seen the Barney Fife factor play out hundreds of times in my life. I've never seen it not. Odd, with all those powers, they need to eat, and they grow old. Whatever gives them superpowers doesn't nourish them, have you ever wondered about that. My guess is, if a human ever had powers like that, the need for food would be no longer. Indeed, to have those powers, would turn you into something not human at all anymore, just in appearance only.

Because Butcher treating Homelander like "The Big Bad" reinforces how strong and relevant he is. Remember, this is a guy who spent his formative years in a box.
Well regardless if butcher treats him like the big bad, he objectively is. He's the strongest thing on the planet
He also respects him. Everybody around him acting like sucker bots and here is a butcher giving him a middle finger makes him to be percived as a more of a person than the rest of humanity.
I think it’s that and how Homelander doesn’t really kill people that aren’t afraid of him
Butcher stands up to Homelander even despite the chance he may die
Stan Edgar was an authority figure who has absolute faith in his own abilities and sense of self
A few other characters in the show can be brought up as well
Most ppl do the same with their rooms
I did too ... Mine was an Xbox 😊
Butcher’s his Joker. Butcher is the only person who neither fears or glorifies Homelander, he’s the only person who sees Homelander for who he really is.
Its weird though that Homelander wants to be shown who he really is.
Homelander believes his weaknesses are confining his abilities. Butcher's reflecting the things he hates about himself validates his self hatred. Justifies his desire to cut his humanity out of himself.
Butcher is the only mirror outside of his own head that he can trust to reflect his current status. Butcher is, very much, the person Homelander wants to be. That, along with the fact the Butcher has never pretended to be on team Homelander, never tried to use Homelander for any purpose but to kill Homelander, is why Stan Edgar can't do what Butcher does. In a way, Butcher is the only person Homelander can trust.
So Homelander needs Billy Butcher. Butcher is the only human who can't ever betray him because he doesn't fear Homelander and never pretends he feels anything but contempt.
The show has made it very clear that Homelander doesn't respect anyone who fears him. Everyone fears him.
Except his best frenemy William.
There are a few others; Stan Edgar, Sister Sage, Barbara and even Noir I would argue
Butcher is his Batman.
@@I_am_intangible Nah because shit in The boys is kind of reversed that would make Homie Batman and Butcher Joker
I think it's cause Butcher challenges him. Out of all the people Homelander is surrounded by, Butcher is the one that tells him the truth and doesnt suck uo to him. Butcher is the one that he respects the most because he doesn't treat Homelander like he's scared of him.
Congrats on typing out exactly what she said in her video.

@@IngoGarzato be fair he summarised an almost ten minute video into a single paragraph which says a lot about how dragged out the video is 😂
That "touche William" is absolute gold, you could tell Homelander felt that burn.
What did he mean by that?
What did butcher actually say I can't understand his accent
@@selenophile5256"you hate your own voice, don't ya?"
@@squadams1080 He meant that Homelanders no better by pretending on all those talk shows
Homelander: Until we merge together as one.
That is disgusting. As much as Homelander can say he loves Ryan, he only loves him as an extension of himself. Love is no real substitute for the fact Homelander has no idea how to act like an actual father.
Same as Succession's Logan Roy, you can't be a good father if you weren't nurtured by fatherly love from a young age. John--- ahem--- Homelander is a victim of Vought, granted that doesn't justify any of his wrongdoings but anyway.
Yeah, he wants to give his son everything he didn't have, but he took his son's mother with a stray eye blast (I think. Its been a while.) and he doesn't know how to be a father because he never had one himself. On top of that he has never had a normal human relationship so he doesn't even know how to have one, and likely never will because of his "I'm king of the world" ego/attitude.
@@Plasmagon99 Ryan was the one who killed Becca on accident. He was trying to stop stormfront cause she was strangling Becca.
So someone posted this exact same comment word for word one minute after this one. Either they copy and pasted yours, or it's just weird bot spam.
He's created a classic golden child dynamic with Ryan that narcissists tend to do, where he loves him because he sees him as an extension of himself, but it's a fragile conditional love that requires Ryan to live up to the dreams Homelander has already imagined for him. It often leads to children that become perfectionists and can only see value in themselves based on their use to others.
So Homelander is externally invulnerable and Butcher is internally invulnerable
That's why butcher on V was terrifying both inside and outside invulnerable
@@Godofnothingness6
Butchers smile when he's angry on V... Terrifying
Homelander when he's angry and smiling... Oi.. You bout to cry mate!?!
My take is that Butcher is the only person who has never been afraid of Homelander. He's never once flinched, never once hesitated or held back. Homelander doesn't like Butcher, but...he doesn't see Butcher as PREY. Most people, even the ones he grows close to, eventually tip their hands by revealing fear of him. Once he knows someone's afraid of him, he has only contempt for them and they cease being 'people' to him. Butcher is an enemy, is a thorn in his side, but...he's a person. Homelander respects him, and perhaps feels like Butcher respects him as well.
Homelander can hear his heartbeat and tell he's definitelt not afraid
Stan Edgar too
This is honestly the best answer I’ve heard. Officially added to my headcanon.
True, why he respects sage too.
@@Melody-mz2vvif you read the comics, its the same as the character of stilwell or edgar in the show. Homelander basicslly needs people to fear him or be loyal to him. If someone isnt, he needs to make it so, and if he kills them before he can do that, in his mind hes lost. Its a massive game of stroking his own ego.
Homelander respects Butcher as he never lies to him. Butcher isn’t scared of being killed by Homelander either, and Homelander knows this.
So, threatening Butcher has no effect and is pointless. So they are on a level together. And as you say, Homelander is entertained by Butcher, so keeps him around for his amusement. He enjoys this “toy”.
No, its because butcher needs to be alive for the plot.
@@mexicanoaburridoo2409 wait, it’s a television show?
@@plarkmobywhat? For real?
HL doesn’t have toys.
No, I don’t believe there’s a power dynamic between the two, and butcher very clearly doesn’t ’entertain’ him. He causes HL stress and messes things up for him.
Just like others ofc, but directly.
HL can trust butchers intentions, that he always feels contempt for him.
Never being on his side, or using him. Just seeking out revenge.
Homelander wants Butcher to die a slow painful death so he’ll let the _sickness_ that’s already inside him do the trick. And besides he knows that killing Butcher will make Ryan hate him and he doesn’t want that. Letting Butcher die _naturally_ would be the best option here because he’ll be exempt from his death.
The part about Ryan is spot on. There may be more to it than that but that is definitely a very important part of the big picture.
Homelander can detect when people are scared of him, and he has a track record of sparing those that don't fear him.

what i understand is that Homelander doesn't kill anyone that doesn't fear him, few examples: Stan Edgar, Martha, and Butcher a few examples.
thought there are some who were not scared of him which he has also - but i like that also
Homelander did kill Martha though.
i think it’s more unique to the individuals prevalent to homelander’s life such as edgar, barbara, vogelbaum and butcher. he seems to “fold” figuratively when faced in the presence of authority and what do all those characters share in common?
to some extent, he respects those who show no fear in the face of his presence, however, if posed a serious threat, he won’t hesitate to laser your p--
@@uscott2008after she admitted to him that she fears him.
"When you have these god-like abilities"
Now that's the kind of down to earth, relatable comparison we all come here for.
It’s all a game of chess too. Like Butcher knows he can kill him but homelander knows it’ll only confirm what butcher thinks of him cuz he has this need for approval from others, especially those who aren’t afraid of him
They're kind of remind me of brothers.
also, winning Ryan over for Homelander will feel better if Butcher is there to see it happen. Homelander lacks a purpose and Butcher posits challenges for him to overcome.
Homelander is a paradox. He intimidates all his allies into submission, but the only people he respects are those who defy him. He wants people to follow him, but also nothing more than a good opponent.
Homelander is a superhero with no supervillain to oppose him. Life can get really boring that way.
Homelander a super "hero"? You're joking, right?
@@Hellisdumb He may not be one, but he sees himself as one.
He wants partners without the risk of competition lol.
@Mediados I don't think he sees himself as a hero, but he likes playing one for the worship and adoration it gets him as he craves love.
Homelander is like a dog. He can smell if you are afraid, and if you are he wants to attack you. IF you are not, then he gets curious or pensive. Everyone ignores the biggest Homelander ability. Super senses. Butcher is not afraid of him, at all. Not even subconsciously.
Not sure on the accuracy as some who are not afraid he kills and some who fear him he doesnt kill
@@GeorgiaDowWho did he killed that is not afraid off him. Because he never killed anyone who was not afraid off him
@@urbanvibezz3611 True, Stan Edgar lived, the woman at the place where he grew up lived, and most importantly, Butcher lives. You could say he has killed some civilians that weren't scared of him, but that's because they didn't actually know what he was capable of.
It's the same reason why most Skyrim players won't kill Alduin until they hit level 200. In Skyrim, you can kill the final boss Alduin as early as level 20, or even less, if you're just blazing through the story. But most players want to fight Alduin at their best because he levels up along with the player, and if he dies, most of the challenge from the vanilla game is lost. So they wait and wait until they're high-level enough before they even dare to face him in battle.

I think it’s interesting to consider when Homelander actually does try and kill Butcher. It’s only when “the game is over” where he says “the deal’s off” and lasers him.
True, but there's a chance homelander had sensed the temp v in his bloodstream like Ryan did, so he didn't laser him for too long probably just to knock him out.
What about that time in Season 3, in the herogasm episode, where Homelander lasered Butcher? (After piecing together that Butcher had something to do with Soldier boy reappearing) He didn't know that Butcher had taken the temporary V back then. He was even surprised when Butcher was still alive
Because he was so pissed off that he forgot he wanted to keep Butcher alive. You gotta remember that Homelander has no real impulse control, and it usually shows up at the worst possible time.
He was angry Bucher brought in Soldier boy and that scared him / made him angry.
@@BadOompaloompa79 that doesn't really answer the question, unless you mean a lack of control on his part.
@@yoshi314 Yes, lashing out in the moment.
@@BadOompaloompa79 Yeah, he probably would have been _pissed_ at himself an hour or two later if that had actually worked.
Homelander doesnt kill him because he only kills people that are threatened by him. He didnt kill Madelyn Stillwell till she said she was threatened by him. He kills the mayor of baltimore after he tries to flee on his plane. Probably more but I cant think of them rn.
That’s strange like shouldn’t it be the other way around. Not killing the Boys will lead to his downfall.
False he killed Stillwell because she lied to him right after he made her promise never to lie to him again, also he kills the mayor of Baltimore because he overheard him threatening Stillwell and stillwell said "have a safe flight home" homelander took it into his own hands and killed him, when was the last time you watched season 1?
@@user-op6kt8pg9y It definitely is a mix of both factors. People don't do things for a single reason.
Vaught employee: Why in the world would you leave that man alive, hes you're worst enemy and he wants you dead?!
Homelander: Hes got good banter.
Butcher sees me! He's my emotional support nemesis!
Telling phrase:" I've given you everything I've ever wanted!"
Homelander’s suggestion of almost transforming into one with Ryan sounds like foreshadowing.
I love that she put plot armor first
I feel like they both know they can't kill each other or hurt each other in any way that'd matter in the long run. Butcher knows he can't put a scratch on Homelander so it'd be useless to even try. Homelander knows he can end Butcher in an instant, but that'd accomplish nothing, it'd be like crushing an ant, he knows it wouldn't satisfy him or aid him in any way, so he doesn't see the point.
My understanding of itt was that Homelander still sees Butcher as a badass human trying to defy the gods and, in a way, he knows that everybody will abandon or betray him at the very first ocasion. But not Butcher. Butcher is totally obsessed with him.
So... Yeah, Butcher is like this crazy obsessed ex that you let come back into your life for fear of being alone x'D
So many reasons:
1: if he kills butcher Ryan will hate him for it
2: if he kills butcher he will have no moral high ground
3: Most important of all. He doesn’t want to win. He wants to been seen winning. Butcher is the ultimate antagonist too him. If he kills him he won’t have anyone to brag too about his victory. Same thing which taking over vought. Just like Stan Edgar said he will come to soley regret it
3:13 "They're only humans...and Toys for our amusement!" ☺️
The way that delivery turned my stomach. Fantastic job from both 😅
5:45 Regarding the emeshment part, I think it's also Homelanders attempt at a form of immortality. By making your kids as much like you as possible, you may in some way live on after your own body dies.
Since his realization of his continued aging he's trying to come to terms with his own mortality.
Im pretty sure that out of everyone in his life thats fake and afraid of him he enjoys and appreciate someone who gives him a genuine connection albeit one based on killing one another but Homelander values genuine connection he craves it. He wants a family/friend. He dont deserve it but hes still human after all.
Homelander loves anyone that fixates on him, even though they’re rude to him.
The only people Homelander views as threats are those who tell him the truth to his face, and aren’t afraid of him, because he’s done things to Supes & humans that make The Seven & humans scared of him. These people are Queen Maeve, Starlight, Butcher, Stormfront, Stan Edgar, Victoria Neuman, Ryan & Sister Sage are the only people to tell Homelander the truth to his face and all of them (except Stormfront bc she killed herself) are still alive.
I also feel like Homelander feels that he is such a formidable opponent and his hate is so deep towards him, that he respects him enough to wait and have him fight on equal playing field which is why he challenged him to fight to the death. It also is kind of a nod to Butcher’s willingness for how far he’s willing to go to get the ability of being able to GET to equal playing grounds because Homelander would expect this of him(his formidable opponent) that he will be able to do so.
One more thing to note under the category of "Homelander respects those who aren't afraid of him."
I can't think of a single time when Homelander has killed ANYONE he perceives as unafraid of him. And I can think of at least two cases where he thought someone was unafraid of him where, when he found out otherwise, he killed them.
Stillwell was the first person we saw who had som sort of control over Homelander. But she outright admits "I'm afraid of you" and Homelander promptly lasers her.
Then there's Barbara from the lab. At first, she talks down to Homelander and he sort of seems at a loss. Then when she admits that she (like all the other nurses, doctors, and staff) was afraid of him, that's when he bullies her, but not before.
I think if Homelander ever sensed that Butcher was actually afraid of him, that would be when he'd get killed. I also think that part of what keeps those unafraid characters alive is Homelander's curiosity about why mere powerless humans WOULDN'T fear him.
he has tried to kill butcher in the past though so I dont think that fits with that theory
Its pretty much like Batman and Joker, Bart and Sideshow Bob. In essence: a villain needs his arch enemy to derive purpose
Homelander doesn't kill Butcher for the same reason Joker doesn't kill Batman: Honesty. No one else will risk telling them the truth to their face.
I think it's because Homelander is genuinely intrigued by this regular human that not only isn't afraid of him, but actually challenges him. Even Stan Edgar doesn't actively challenge Homelander, though he shows no fear of him.
Homelander seems to respect strength and courage more than anything else. He constantly belittles those he believes to be physically inferior and cowardly. He outright declared that he was better than everyone else during his birthday celebration event and complained about being surrounded by sycophants and no one having the courage to stand up to him, though he uses fear and intimidation to control people.
Personally it's because Billy's the ONLY one who'll call homelander out. Also on a different lvl butcher helped Ryan he saved him when he could have killed or attempted to kill or use him.
I don't know because on a lvl their both mad dogs.
Butcher has lost everything so could die and not care.
Homelander has everything he could want yet is loosing the most important part his mind.
Sooooooo
Unstoppable force meets immobile object they'll either destroy each other completely or one will eventually fold the other.
Also as fucked as it is they both have a "code" it's not healthy or good but they both have em.
It's clear in the latest episodes that Homelander hates how everyone around him never says no to him. Butcher is most definitely not one of them.
butcher kills homelander ryan becomes homelander. homelander kills butcher ryan becomes butcher.
I think
I think if he killed butcher Ryan would turn on him, its cuz of his son, just like how Butchers hallucination tells hin that if he kills homelander he’ll end with another homelander (ryan). Ryan is the key pretty much
You're a really good therapist ❤
totally unrelated, but i would LOVE to see Georgia do an analysis on characters like Barry Berkman, Dexter, or even Joe Goldberg!
those are some interesting characters !
@@GeorgiaDowalso, there’s a super interesting theory that interprets Dexter not as a psychopath but as an undiagnosed autistic with a special interest/fascination in death due to trauma. It seems to fit with the range of emotions and behaviors the character goes through way more and that would be great to explore !
In Homelander's mind Butcher is probably the closest thing he has to a rival or even an acquaintance (aside from original Noir, maybe?) though he'd never admit that.
I think he probably admires the way Butcher hates what Vought's done to people over the decades in the same way he does. They're very much two sides of the same coin, same sadistic streak, same tendencies when it comes to disregarding social graces/the feelings of others, similar troubles with keeping people around, similar fraught, deeply traumatic relationships with their various father figures (and how to co-parent Ryan perplexing them both because of it), hell, they're even kinda catty in the same way and HL seems to even somewhat appreciate his sense of humour. There's a reason they got the same powers when Billy was on Temp V and why they get frequently contrasted as having the same sort of darkness in them both in the comics and the show. They'd probably get along well if it weren't for the, um. Everything.
Makes me wonder what would happen in an alternate universe where the Boys exist far earlier and they cross paths during the same era of the episode of Diabolical with a young Homelander who actually wants to do good. They'd probably have blown up Vought tower together and left Edgar, Vogelbaum and any other higher ups who had anything to do with HL's childhood as bloody chum by the end of the week lol.
I like the quick "ok, gotta jog down this trial RQ" - and overall great vid. Thank you!
Georgia, your analyses are very insightful and entertaining. I got interested in The Boys a few days ago and I went on a spoiler rampage. Your videos are definitely the best I've seen so far. Subscribed!
People don't understand the importance of the connection both Butcher and Homelander share is Becca and Ryan. Homelander craves love and approval and he knows that Ryan has a connection with both Becca and Butcher. If he hurts Butcher he may push his son even further away, may possibly hate him for it. Homelander loves his son and wants to be loved back. Homelander may also feel some remorse for what he did to Becca, so maybe another reason why he doesn't kill Butcher.
(EDITED)
Homelander's disdain for humans if more likely due to the way he was treated when he was raised, which is why he refuses to be classified as "human", and why he says humans are toys for his amusement, even though humans are the ones who created him, created compound V. However, Ryan was born FROM a human and raised by his human mother, so Ryan does not see humans are merely "TOYS", he loves his mother, and has a connection with Butcher from being around him as a child. Which is why I think Homelander keeps trying to emphasize to Ryan that humans are just toys. If Homelander can sever Ryan's connection to Becca and Butcher, he thinks he could kill Butcher without Ryan hating him. IMO.
He DID try to kill him, during herogasm, and he was genuinely surprised he got back up
Its basically the batman and joker relationship, they need eachother to be who they are.
7:22 Homelander making it about himself there. "Everything I ever wanted."
I'd love to see you cover the series Superman and Lois, it has a lot of really heavy emotional content in it with lots of great messaging about adulthood, trauma, forgiveness, etc. Great video as always!
Homelander begrudgingly respects Butcher. Butcher is also very similar to Soldier Boy. A "man's man" that Homelander wants to acknowledge him. He knows that if they were on the same level, power-wise, he wouldn't stand a chance against Butcher.
I think its interesting that he calls him "William"
Butcher knows Homelander better than Homelander knows himself
I think you’re brilliant and insightful and tying your content to shows/movies with good writing is a smart move
Homelander Lazered Butcher in Herogasm though. He tried to kill him at that point. Not knowing that Butcher was on Temp V
I love your cosplay in every video ❤
agree.
I didn't know what to make of the "merge into one" scene, but now this make total sense. Homelander wants somebody to be deeply dependent on him, so that he will always be loved no matter what.
Crazy interesting video !
I think you forgot about the episode when Homelander shot Butcher with his lasers, but Butcher took compound V without Homelander knowing. Homelander says "deals off" and then attempts to kill Butcher. Ep Herogasm
Lack of self control and anger
And also butcher breaking the “deal” that they shook on
Homelander would’ve regretted killing butcher afterwards
LMAO 0:00 already got us 😂
I just started this series last week, pleasantly surprised how much i enjoy this, and the layered narratives
I love homelander saying “I’ve given you everything I’ve ever wanted”
He did basically kill him at the herogasm. Lasered him, assuming it would kill him when he said "Deals off". But ofc, butcher was on temp V at the time so he survived...
this upload was a surprise to be sure but a welcome one
I see it as the same relationship that The Comedian and Moloch have from watch The Wathcmen.
Mortal enemies but they are at the same time the best friend's they've ever had.
yeah i agree with most that he doesnt seem to kill anyone that isnt scared or intimidated by him. its like he tries to break them but if they don't he moves on to someone who is.
though he has tried to kill butcher before so that can't be the reason
Gonna leave a comment here before I watch this video, my perspective is that butcher is essentially the only true kinda rival homelander has despite not being on equal footing with him, mainly since butcher probably is the man who hates homelander the most and is essentially both insane and reckless enough to be willing to go toe to toe with an insurmountable foe, and I think homelander takes a liking to that, that’s my perspective, will watch now to see what yours is
okay see how close our ideas are = )
That scene between HL and B, was so so so chilling. Almost like Homelander wanted Butcher to join him and rule USA and the world together. Where MM or Frenchi wouldnt even think of it, Butcher being Butcher, wouldn't hesitate to imagine and think of the upper hand he would have.
The audience this season not being able to think about this stuff has slightly tinted some of the discussion on this show. I think the show just got popular enough that there're enough mainstream people for us to hear people voice complaints about things without considering psychology.
Sam and Jake stood under the warm spray of the shower, steam swirling around them. Their laughter echoed off the tiles as they washed away the grime of the day.
“You know,” Sam said, lathering shampoo into his hair, “I was reading this article about the history of hand jobs. It’s fascinating.”
Jake chuckled, rinsing soap off his arms. “Only you would find that interesting. What did it say?”
“Well,” Sam began, “it turns out that hand jobs were a common part of male bonding rituals in some cultures. It was more about camaraderie than sex.”
Jake raised an eyebrow. “Really? That’s pretty wild. Imagine explaining that at a family dinner.”
They both laughed, the sound blending with the noise of the water.
“Hey, knowledge is power,” Sam grinned, rinsing his hair.
Jake nodded, smiling. “Just another quirky piece of trivia for the books. Only you, Sam.”
there was that scene, i think it was at herogasm, where homelander did try to killy butcher. except that butcher had temp-v in him so he survived
hundret percent perfectly nailed. Killing Butcher was never an Option it would always hurt Homelander more than Butcher.
Happy Fourth of July to you Georgia Dow perfect Boys video analysis on Homelander and Butcher
Aanothwr thing ii saw pointed ouut in a revew of S4 is how homelannder nevvwr kills people with atthority or who dont fear homelander, id asume homelander takes the lack of fear as an insult and wants them to stay alive long enough for that to change
but he has tried to kill butcher in the past and butcher wasn't afraid of him then so that cant be it.
Wow, your cosplay awesome, love the look
Thanks so much Grimm = ) hehe i liked being a bit like Butcher
Because hes one of the few humans that doesnt fear homelander, and that goes a long way for homelander, homelander doesnt think of butcher as a treat but also wants the challenge that butcher and only butcher can give him, as an inferior human who doesnt fear him so far only him and edgar can say that, cuz even the supes are scared of homelander but not butcher, remember the smile he gave at homelander in season 1 during the race, that was the moment homelander picked up on butcher as the human who looked at him as in i am gonna get you, not like everyone else looks at him as please dont kill me
This is the same argument why Megatron doesn't Kill Starscream. If Homelander kills Butcher, it leaves a void for a new unknown threat to operate from the shadows. It's easier to keep an enemy at arms length than to risk changing the whole equation.
plot armor..but wisely depicted. in the first season he tried but he didn't know who and where he was.in the second he doesn't recognize him as a great menace. from third season gates are open: he could kill him...but when he tries..there is temporary compound v. in this last season there is only the desire to protect his good relationship with his son:he knows that Ryan loves him and so he knows that his son will not forget that killing. then now he also know he has a thumour so he will find him pathetic
Your thoughts or predictions on black noir new role?
I have loved the idea since around the beginning of season 3 that Homelander actually wants and looks forward to a worthy challenger in Butcher. That’s just a really fun idea to me and could maybe even explain some of the total jumps in logic the last couple episodes have done in regards to Homelander.
i like all the points made, one of the other things i think is that butcher and the boys are a threat to other supes who homelander sees as weak and expendable, so whenever they kill another supe it feels like they're doing homelander a favour because he really would like to kill a lot of the seven but he can't. but letting butcher live, so he can kill them, he's can do that.
one of the points about butcher being real with homelander is that he says to maeve that she is the only one who tells him what she really feels and he respects that a lot about her so we have some evidence for that theory
i definitely think butcher is the batman to his joker, he could kill him but what would he do without him? he needs him to affirm his own identity basically.
Idk what that was at the beginning of the video but it was absolutely adorable!
He also wants to be up to the challenge. He can kill everyone he wants in a heartbeat, but beating them at their own game is where he wants to be.
That's an ego thing too, he always want to be better than everyone and has that obsession with proving that he is the best.
Again, remember, since he's a boy he scared of disappointing people around him and I think that applies to Butcher too.
Two really funny explanations though. One, Homelander either likes Butcher enough to treat him as worthy opponent or... as shown in episode 4, Homelander does not kill the ones that don't fear him. He sees fear as weakness, a trait that needs to be eliminated. Butcher doesn't fear death as the season 1 finale showed, but he also does not fear Homelander.
I stumbled onto this video, but I really enjoyed it. I mean it's clear that the whole point is Homelander doesn't want empty praise, but I never really considered how much he might admire Butcher for being more fearless than him.
idk. he lasered him last season meaning to kill him. he only survived because of the temp v lol
love your The Boys analysis videos!! hoping we get a dive into someone like Carmy or Richie from The Bear soon :'))
The costumes are my favorite part of this channel. 😊
The ending of Season one explains Homelanders secret like and respect of butcher . Hoemelander even said it himself. Plus they both have childhood trauma
This was so good. Thank you
There are VERY few people in Homelander's life that are completely transparent with him; Stan Edgar, Butcher, Noir, Sister Sage, and Barbara.
Aside from Noir, he shows a surprising amount of restraint when dealing with the rest of them. He loves being worshipped and adored, but clearly has no respect for those people, like The Deep, Firecracker or his number 1 fans that he killed. But he's the one to blame for his own misery, because he gives others good reason to fear him
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
The scene from Anchorman comes to mind at the end when Vice Vaughn is holding the ladder that Will Ferrell is on and says something to the effect of "With every fiber in my being, I pure HATE you. But dammit do I respect you" and he let's him go
Such a well done video!!!
Dow, You might be the greatest therapist I've ever seen.
awww thanks such a touching comment thank you
Season 1- Didn’t know much about Butcher and didn’t see him as a threat.
Season 2- in order to have a relationship with his son, he promised Becca to keep butcher alive. At the end of the season, he was blackmailed by Maeve with the flight video.
Season 3- Combination of blackmail, wanting a final fight, did technically try to kill him at Herogasm then at end was prevented from killing him by Ryan.
Season 4- Doesn’t want to ruin his relationship with Ryan while also realizing he’s dying anyways.
This is pretty much it to a T. The video tries to pull a bunch of different motivations from across the whole series, but it becomes much clearer when you look at it chronologically like this. I will add, in season 4, Homelander's ego really wants Ryan to freely choose him over Butcher just because Homie feels superior to Butcher (and the rest of the non-supes) in every way.
He did try to kill him once he saw that he was working with solider boy, but only survived because he took the V
Homelander doesn't kill people who don't fear him.... that's been reinforced throughout all four seasons....
I can explain in more detail....
No! He needs Ryan to love him and Ryan loves Butcher,si if he kills butcher he loses Ryan..sighs
I am going to do a complete sidenote for you, and I am sorry to take away from the video, but how can someone submit a video request?
I tried looking in your description and there is a website and the most recent post on your community page, I did not see a pinned comment.
Since this is the most recent video, can I do it here? If not, feel free to disregard:
Inside Out 2. Can you talk about some of the noteworthy scenes from a therapist perspective? Things like the newer emotional taking over the control panel, the fact that anxiety thinks she is doing what is best for Riley but in reality shutting her out from makes her happy, and of course the popular scene of Riley's panic attack
Again, apologies for taking away from the video. I just saw it yesterday and one of my reaction thoughts was wondering if you already did a video about that movie.
If it is not the place, please disregard. If you do or it is already on your radar, thanks for considering
What about in the herogasm episode where he does just say "deals off"and lazers butchers chest before knowing he wasnt easy to kill
It’s cool from the clips I’ve seen it’s like they both know how fucked up the world is and still have to deal with the mess so they relate to that
