  • Everything seen in my videos has to have come from somewhere, and much of it is from here. This video is a tour of my lab, a room not usually shown but crucially important to everything I do.

    -- Contact Me --
Please don't use any RUclips contact features, I never read them. If you need to get in touch, please contact me on Reddit as a private message to /u/DodoDude700 or comment on one of my videos.
    -- How I make my videos --
I use Final Cut Pro on my custom built Xeon E3 Hackintosh, and film with a Canon EOS 60D. I use a pair of large fluorescent studio lights for most of my work, but may use various other types if filming away from the room I usually film in. I have a really overfilled lab, which is usually where I dig up the tech seen in my videos.

I do not claim to own any of the trademarks mentioned in my videos. Some images may be obtained from third party sources. If you need to contact me for legal reasons, please use one of the above contact methods.
    -- Music --
The music used in the Dodoid and Dodoid Advent Calendar intros is AdhesiveWombat - Bombs. Other AdhesiveWombat songs are sometimes used.

You may have gone over this already, but I'm curious to know where all this exposure to gear came from. What was you father's deal? You've clearly been immersed in pc tech from birth.

Man, you have really really loving parents. I managed to convince my mom after a long time to drill some holes through for Ethernet cables and managed to convince my grandparents to have a server in the attic, but then then they started complaining about the power bill.
Both places 15 years later still have servers, but I needed to do the low-wattage modern things, instead of vintage like I prefer. Now that I've been living on my own (and 10.000km away), I understand their drive to tidiness and power consumption but yea, it's fun to grow up like this.
Still looking for a (good) SGI opportunity in Europe. You folks in North America have it much better in that regard.
And still waiting for my mini-Indigo for my proxy. No news from post in case it is stuck in customs. I really look forward to it!
    Keep up the good work!

Mine won't let me drill two holes for ethernet, and we already have a laundry chute that would work perfectly as a cable run (from lab with ethernet to bathroom adjacent upstairs bedroom). I have a Wireless AC repeater-bridge behind my monitors with an 8 port switch so that I can run SGIs, Hackintosh with no wifi drivers, etc and so on upstairs and get them on the WiFi transparently.
They let me run a server but it has to be a low-power ARM thing (hence the use of a miniature SGI as opposed to a real one!).
Your Mini Indigo was shipped a while ago, but it's still within the time frame that it's pretty reasonable for it not to have arrived yet.

At the time, I only managed to convince my mom because that was the only way for everybody to have internet.
We had the first generation Graphite AirPort base station (I actually may still have it somewhere in the attic), and it would not go through two walls.
I know it's not overnight delivery. I'm just very anxious about getting it. =)

12:12 Sun were trying to use “Java” as a brand name for a whole bunch of non-Java things for a while, e.g. the “Java Desktop System”. I think they were hoping the modicum of fame they had managed to achieve for that language would rub off on their other products.
We all know how well that worked out...

    09:44 Ironically, I find a mechanically-locking caps-lock key counter-productive, since I never use the caps-lock function anyway.

What do you use the SGI and Suns for?
Also, what's the most stylish SGI and Sun for you?

Looks like the way my place used to be before I finally got some industrial shelving... except you're about 20 years ahead of me for sTuFf accumulation. :D
Re the roof space, you can attach shelves across the floor beams to give extra shelves, ie. screw them to the underside of the beams. I did this in my garage, very handy (assuming this wouldn't make you bang your head on them).
9:36 "I'm sure this is alright."
    :D

I may have a decent amount of "sTuFf", but I suspect that you have either the largest or close to largest (not sure about jan-jaap and DBJ974) number of SGIs in one place anywhere in the world, even counting museums. Your O2 shelf, hallway Onyx, neatly stacked O3K bricks, hard to see Onyx rack, etc are far more than I have, even with my spare Octane corner and Ind(igo2/y) pile. Besides, you've been at it for close to 20 years more than I have anyway!

2:46 I have the exact same monitor, but mine has a stand, moisture damage inside the LCD (bad), and a partially damaged control board (which makes the front controls unusable).
    9:50 OSFirstTimer!
12:23 I remember LGR doing a review of the PC version of that mouse.

I have the stand for that monitor, but removed it to fit it in the shelf. It's in the drawers under the 3D printer.

You should start an Instagram. Put up cool pictures of cool computers and stuff like that. If you want to get more subscribers, then that's the way to get your channel out there. Find other computer-build photo pages on Instagram and then follow all of their followers. You'll get noticed in no time.

    • @Dodoid
      @Dodoid  7 лет назад

I usually post to Reddit (/u/DodoDude700), Nekochan Forums (Dodoid), or Twitter (@DodoidOfficial).
As for Instagram, I am hesitant to use a Facebook-owned service for privacy reasons. Even twitter worries me, but I keep it to strictly channel related stuff that I am OK with being dug through by algorithms and such because it's public anyway. Twitter can also be posted to from a web interface on my desktop, whereas uploading to Instagram seemingly requires a nonfree Android app and may work poorly without Google Play Services, which I do not run on my phone. I greatly prefer using full size desktop computers to phones anyway, so Instagram might be a strange choice of platform for my purposes.
