Enjoy this brand new mega-compilation video! I have a couple of other videos in the works as well, as well as more articles and podcast stuff, but I'm also just now getting past a very trying personal time as well. I'm not going to plug my Patreon or my Discord in this pinned comment, and instead just want you all to know I appreciate each and every view from y'all! I really do mean it.
I was watching, enjoying this extremely high quality series of well researched and well presented documentaries, when I looked down and noticed the video only has 4k views. The hell?? This is the kind of stuff I expect to have at least half a million, but only 4k?? The very definition of underrated, may the algorithm find you well.
These are the best retrospectives about these topics on the platform. Coherent, concise, amazing production, interviews, the works! May the algorithm bless you soon.
28 comments, 2000 views, is that true? This is all amazing, and it was all compiled too, we've needed not only a show like this for so long but a channel like this too! Can't wait for this to blow up!
I don't understand how a multi-milion dollar company can make the same rookie mistakes over and over again. I'm genuinely baffled how SEGA is even still alive and hasn't ceased to exist. Everything after the 32x has been an embarrassment and it makes SEGA's initial success in the early 90s seem almost incidental. This company is doomed to fail at this point.
Why the eff is "Freedom Planet" featured in such a series?? It's actually one of the best newer games I've ever played, and it also happens to be my all-time favorite indie game title as well!
@@StuffWePlay Good point, though I did kinda hate the negative reception toward the Sonic series, considering the fact that Sonic is pretty much the only modern video game hero that is an anthropomorphic animal (aside from Crash Bandicoot, anyway).
I honestly wonder if an Art of Failure can be done for stuff like Cyberpunk 2077. I'm honestly curious how that could've went. Regardless tho, love this series.
I'd love to do another run of episodes of AOF post-pabdemic. Just, I'd want to be able to do things such as in-person interviews and not have to rely on stock footage for certain things
3:44:00 Imagine firing a person for putting regular hours against a crunch-based team, on a industry that doesn't pay overtime, and telling the story as if the fired guy was the asshole. On a project that almost killed 2 by overworking. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Glad that failed.
Imagine trashing a developer so hard that they go from "being the next big game studio" to being a third of their size having to put out VR games to continue surviving. My hatred for corporate SEGA knows no bounds :D
I had to set aside a significant amount of time to watch this (which isn't a big deal, I have free time). It was definitely informative, to say the least. It seems most of the failures of this series was the result of corporate overreaching and poor management (which STILL continues to be a problem even today. What's up with that?). Also, I am aware of the "crunch" period for video game development, and while most workers would go along with it because of their dedication to the game/industry, I question the ethics behind it and believe all workers should be compensated for all work they do when serving in their official capacities as part of the development team. That also means getting paid for overtime, as well as allowing for breaks. The development times of video games do not always allow for basic human needs to be met and that needs to change (while also being a corporate management issue). That being said, I definitely appreciate the hard work and dedication of the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of game developers, designers, artists, composers and programmers across the industry. You guys (and gals, and etc.) keep the game industry thriving and we have a lot to learn still about the industry and how things work. Hang in there and keep up the good work! James, thank you very much for your informative series! -Game On!-

This is actually a compilation of several videos! But AOF is making a comeback in the coming weeks, so check back
As always, Sega is their own worst enemy.
Highly appreciate the timestamps in the description.
It's no problem!

Bro don't act like Sega pre 32x wasn't a mess it always has sorta been this way
Dreamcast was amazing!
SEGA was the one that made boom fail
You are horridly underrated!
Oh thank you!
Depressing sonic is here twice.
What is Freedom Planet doing on "The art of failure"?
That's exactly what I'd like to know after checking out this video for myself.
I like long videos like this that I can put on periodically as I get through it.
Thank you tons!
Fantastic series! I subbed
The Gamewave fiasco reminds me of how the Gizmodo practically amounted to a money laundering scheme.
Maybe that'll even be a future AOF ;)

Actually watch that segment and find out instead of angry commenting

No problem! I'm glad I got it out!
