The very first pick in 2021 and the very last pick in 2022 were the only 2 QBs worth anything compared to every QB picked between them.
And even then Trevor Lawrence still hasn't proven himself, tho he's not bad
Statistically, Lawrence is basically identical to Daniel Jones.

Though Skyler did not play great, the offense put up way more pts than I expected and the Dolphins almost came out on top, which if they DID, it would’ve been the biggest playoff upset in years.
Yeah, with how well the Dolphins did with freaking Skylar Thompson, I can't help but think that if Tua were in that game, they would have won, and maybe even handily. That game was the first sign that the Bills were struggling that postseason (although even both that performance and my Bengals fan hopium failed to prepare me and many others for the meltdown they had the week after)

I think what makes the 2021 worse is that this class wasn’t expected from their draft position to do much whereas 2021 saw multiple trade ups and expected franchise quarterbacks who all failed
Worst draft class is worst draft class. Being more disappointed in one because it had more 1st round busts doesn't means it's actually worse overall.
Agreed there were so many names in the 2021 draft that people thought would be franchise QBs but can't even stay on a single team.

The biggest travesty in all of sports is the Steelers not drafting Dan Marino. He grew up in Pittsburgh, went to Pitt, set all kinds of records, and we know what he ended up doing in the NFL. If he’d played for us he’s be the G.O.A.T. Drafting Picket was an attempt to not let history repeat itself.

Same could be said about San Fran going with Alex Smith in ‘05, and Rodgers slipping in the hands of GB… I mean he did grew up in Northern California
But they thought Bradshaw had a few more years left in his arm... if both sides had been honest with each other, they could have drafted Marino. I'm still pissed at the world about the accident Rivera was in that stopped his career before it started.

I remember to this day hearing Malik Willis to the Lions at the 2nd overall pick. Even the Lions coaching staff was praising him when they coached him in the Senior Bowl that year. THANK GOD they went with Hutchinson.

2022 was a deep backup QB draft.
2013. Only 1 QB taken in the first. Only QB left in the league is Geno Smith. Had the likes of Mike Glennon, Ryan Nassib, and Landry Jones.
I remember when I was a kid, it was widely accepted that a newly drafted NFL QB would spend the first 5 years on the bench learning how to be an NFL QB, now they can't afford to let them sit on the bench. I also remember ( at the time of Mansell) that the Monday Morning QB guy looked at the stats and said "Of the last 64 QBs drafted by the NFL, 5 have been successful. That's a problem with the system, not these young men."
More like 3 years though the Raiders had done 5. Honestly this may have held Stabler back in the latter two years before he became a starter.

@Cruckavens777 No read over that again. Rookies rarely hit the ground running in the NFL because the game is faster, and their opponenets are smarter compared to college. The standard used to be selecting the successor early and letting the learn behind the starter. Steve Young and Montana, Rodgers and Favre, Mahomes and Smith. When a rookie qb is allowed a year or more to sit back and learn from a veteran, their performance is more likely to be better. Now qbs are just thrown into the fire, many of them are raw and need more refining and they just don't get it. The League is littered with squandered potential at the qb position

The Dolphins actually lost that 2023 Playoff game to the Bills 34-31, not 34-13. It wasn't ugly on the Dolphins' part, they, and Skylar Thompson, played their hearts out. They just....lost.

These qbs are really not getting a chance at all nowadays. They don’t even let them play a game or they might only let them play like 3 games and then move on from them
I don’t think Howell is a bust quite yet, obviously didn’t work out with Washington, but he showed good competitiveness, durability, and could toss a pretty good deep ball every now and then. I could see him being a backup for a little bit and maybe taking a starting role on a team that drafts a rookie qb. I’m not sure if he could win a lot without a solid team around him, but I also don’t think he’s responsible for a majority of those Commanders losses. It should be interesting if he ever plays for Seattle this season instead of Smith. I think that would be a better evaluation of him.

Brock Purdy is doing more than most first round picks do. He isnt the best player on that team but he does his job just fine. Considering his draft number he is a great QB.
94 NFL draft class is the only one that compares to the 2022 draft class for worst QB draft. Heath Shuler, Trent Dilfer, Perry Klein, Doug Nussmeier, Jim Miller, Jay Walker, Gus Frerotte, Steve Matthews, Glenn Foley,
And Kurt Warner was undrafted that year
Dilfer, Miller and Frerotte were at least serviceable game managers.
Purdy is the only one who has shown anything at all (note: I really like what I have seen from the dude and I HATE the 49ers and their fans)
Trent Dilfer was the best one out of all of them.
Dilfer was a decent QB at least. In 97 he led the Buccaneers to the playoffs and even won against the Detroit Lions (yeah, the NFC Central had 4 teams in the playoffs that season). And heck, Dilfer is the only QB to ever get a "roughing the defender" penalty.

It's insane to think that any rookie QB can turn around a complete dumpster fire. Traditionally, QBs don't really GET IT until their third season. Any of these busts may land on another team and end up beating the same dumpster fire that drafted and gave up on them.

Skylar Thompson was not good, for sure, but after not fucking up enough to lose the finale vs the Jets to make the playoffs, the score in the playoff game vs the Bills was 34-31 (not 34-13) and had a chance to tie or win in the last drive.

I remember in the offseason leading up the 2022 draft how like right after the combine, there was a FLURRY of moves between teams trading for QBs. Sure that's a great time for GMs to chat about trades. But part me of thinks they got a taste of the prospects up close and went "Nope. Absolutely not gonna rely on that.".
I have hope for my Commmanders though since Snyder is gone! Which....probably will make it more painful if the pick fails. But I guess I don't have to go into the pick knowing it will fail.

This is because the league is scrambling to find their franchise QB that these guys are being drafted a full round or two or more higher than they deserve to. Then you plug them in and expect the next Mahomes and it’s a disaster. Teams used to wait 3-4 years and even bench rookies the first year. Everyone wants instant gratification now which is just unreasonable. It’s the leagues fault not the players.
It’s ironic considering Mahomes sat a year when he got to KC too. Though as a jaguars fan I cut Lawrence some slack. That team is relevant beyond embarrassment for the first time since 2017
It's not just QBs, anyone drafted in first round are treated as such as well. When you see a player start breaking out in his second season, you'd find some idiots going "He redeemed himself!" like he was some struggling veteran who finally hit it big.
Just getting onto a NFL team made Bailey Zappe a local hero alongside some other people from where I live that got onto NFL teams.

Honestly lol. I don’t know if there was a worse team last year talent wise, even including the Panthers. I mean he played pretty solid considering how many times his line let him get sacked and management trading players throughout the season. At the worst he definitely proved he’s got some serious toughness and deserves to be in the league. I hope he can get some real playing time in with Seattle so we can see how he performs with a team that’s actually serviceable.

As a Lions fan, I remember the 02 class of David Carr, Joey Harrington etc. being pretty bad. DC was probably CTE'd out of a viable career though.
It was the first draft in recent memory that I can remember the draft content I consume, despite the agents trying their hardest, ending the pre draft process going "Yeah this QB class kinda sucks."
Ryan Tannehill was never benched for anyone in Tennessee. Willis played some mop up duty in a blowout in 2022. He got starts later because Tannehill got injured and missed the KC game and a few others. Levis got the start in Atlanta in 2023 because Tannehill was hurt again, and he won the job.
Makes me glad that my team was bad enough to draft a QB in 2020 XD

Giving the benefit of doubt, we are only 2 years removed from 2022, so I'd say we need at least one more year before we can definitely say a QB is a bust or not. Remember, Josh Allen (Bills QB) had a pretty erratic start to his career, and it was in year 3 when he finally broke out and established himself under center. It also helps he had a good offensive coaching staff to work on his mechanics, though their penchant for choking is another matter entirely. If Allen or even Mahomes lacked the right system or coach to unlock their talents, their names would have been on the bust list.
There is still a chance that any of the 2022 QB class can still surprise us, but the fact that many of them have changed teams (and coaches), it's a damning testament no matter which way you look. Either front offices are too impatient to have their prospect QBs "set the world on fire" right away, or talent scouts have seriously goofed up their jobs not to pick up red flags.
Commanders are going to screw it up, huh? Bro, I'd take Howell over "Danny Dimes" any day of the week!! New ownership and new management mean nothing either? Fine. We'll see, FivePoints.

Since I'm a Seattle fan, I do hope that Howell still has some potential to development. If he made it through last year's sackfest without getting PTSD like David Carr, he has a shot to be...decent. But he seems pretty dang tough.
But other than Purdy, it does seem like this was just a draft class of future backups. And 2023 did prove a good backup is valuable.

its almost like all the good QBs try to declare the same year so that they have a better chance of going to a team thats not a complete mess.
Hindsight being 20/20, I'm glad the Packers picked Jordan Love more than ever now, 3 years later Stroud and Lawrence are still the only decent QB's to come out of these 1st rounds, and imo, has cemented the idea that the NFL overvalues QB's and need to take notes on the how the Packers did it.
The Packers sat and developed 2 QB's in a row, 1 is a future HoF, the other is turning out well. Teams need to re-evaluate how to find a starting QB, because they can't just keep going after 1st rounders and expect magic like CJ Stroud. Some teams like the 49ers can get lucky in a Mr. Irrelevant but that doesn't happen to everyone. I remember the days where teams took Free Agent gambles by either signing another team's backup or trading for another team's backup after they either sat for a few years or showed promise filling in for a starter one year. Look at all the Favre Effect QB's, Mark Brunell, Aaron Brooks, Matt Hasselback, all 3 turned in SOLID careers at QB for other teams while Favre did his thing.
There's more than 1 way to get a starting QB, and teams need to stop looking at what round they were picked in (or if they were picked at all), or how they got the job, and start building around the guy they have.
The fact you have Sam Howell in this is ridiculous. He was a 5th round pick, & has already outplayed his draft position & has only started 1 season & only been in the league for 2 seasons. Also, it’s way too early to judge this draft class. Fair to discuss the 1st rounders but to include the 2nd & on is stupid.
I might get some shit for saying this, but I'm so damn excited to get Cousins starting for us. Even if we're terrible this coming season (again), at least we have a decent starter with a little more consistency. We haven't been right since 28-3, but I feel a little less shitty knowing that Shanahan can now get a little more blame. Let's go Captain Kirk?! 😂

Skyler actually made some GREAT plays in that playoff game and had a ton of drops, especially from Waddle.
Zappe is a fan favorite here in New England, hope he stays with the Pats as a backup!

This is a minor detail, but don't expect Zappe to be in New England next season. He was fairly combative with Jones, that's not what you're looking for with a rookie QB coming in. Brisette and the rookie will make the roster and someone you've never heard of will probably be the practice squad QB
I feel like getting 1 decent starting QB in Purdy makes 2022 not the worst. I could be wrong, but I feel like there's been plenty of drafts where no one was above backup caliber.

No other sport gives up on the young guys as quickly as they do in pro football. Many of these guys, even the high picks, have no business seeing the field for the first season or 2 after their draft. The development structure is dead.

Purdy and Sam Howell are the only QB's worth anything in this draft. Howell will eventually be the starter for the Seahawks this year.

Brock Purdy shows that even competent scouts can get it massively wrong underestimating what someone is capable of. Also, it's nice to see him do so well cause honestly, a QB being picked last is almost mean in a way. When QBs picked in the fifth round don't make the roster, picking one last, that's kinda harsh. But every team but the 49ers totally screwed up, and they left him til the last pick of the draft. Also kudos to Shanahan to actually giving him a chance and not treating him as someone who's getting cut the first day of roster cuts.
Shanahan stated that Brock won QB3 over Nate Sudfeld despite them already paying him to be QB3. Just shows that they are willing to lose money to take chances. One interesting piece of information I saw was that he Brock is extremely competitive and hardworking. That alone says alot. Usually when players make it to the NFL they act like they have made it and don't need practice because their athletic ability and talent will carry them. That is partially true but at the same time if they want to ever win a Superbowl or last a long time in the NFL they will have to practice alot and give effort rather than rely purely on instict or athletic ability.
Brock Purdy alone makes this class better than 2013
