The nhl went to great lengths to make sure Scott didn’t get to the all star game. He was trades to Montreal and immediately sent down to the ahl in an attempt to send a message. The backlash was swift and fierce and the nhl had no other option than to respect the fans and the results. The nhl even tried to suspend voting and claim the results were due to an error but we all knew that was not the case. It was to only all star game this century that has been worth watching.

I really think the NHL should continue with fan voting for the ASG. Sure, maybe limit who we can vote for, but select a pool of guys who wouldn't make the ASG based on points, like Lindblom, Ethan Bear, Bobby Ryan etc or personality guys like Yandle or legends like Marleau and Thornton. Make the ASG about more than just on-ice performance for that season, make it about the all stars of the game in general. Acknowledge that the league is about more than scoring points

Came here from the Bar Down quiz on NHL controversies, and like they say, John Scott's story also shows how good even the bottom players are in the NHL. Most enforcers started out as juniors with above average skill, but shifted into the role in order to keep playing when their talent wasn't enough to get them to the highest level. John Scott at his peak was probably still faster and had better stickhandling than most active players in lower leagues.

@@Outta-hz1ej If the leafs don’t want to get laughed at they shouldn’t loose to a 42 year old goalie. Who’s highest level he ever played was the ohl. And currently worked as a zamboni driver and practice goalie for the leafs.

Scott could have been a Probert instead, had he played in the first line. And be scoring 60 points in a season.

Had Scott not been allowed to attend the game, I think its safe to say there would have been a riot, and rightfully so! I bet whoever wanted John out of the games felt like a real POS after this. 😅

It's crazy how the league wanted this guy out of the show after this whole fans voting for him . It ruined his career and he was sent packing out the league. Even in reality , life is like this, except us normal people don't get paid millions but scrap change for a living.

They wanted him out because he was a dying breed. He had zero NHL talent. The league is faster and more skillfull than ever. THis guy was a liability to any team he went to. Could barely keep up with other NHL players, couldn't score. All he could do was incite a fight. enforcing is great, but in today's league, you NEED to have some semblence of skills. He had none. expect injuring people. Thankfully, he was never to be seen again after this game. He should have been out of the game years before. No loss
