Though many buildings have been replaced, I still recognise the places. Strange to think this is how the city looked when my grandparents were children.
Im a Norwegian, grew up in Oslo, my family is also from oslo. This brought tears in to my eyes, i dont know why tho. Thanku for the video.
I've visited Oslo from time to time, I live on the West Coast of Norway. I clearly recognise Youngstorget (the fruits and greens market). It is mindblowing to see the small differences!
So strange to see Youngstorget in this old movie. I sat on that very spot yesterday and had a beer.
Love the hat tipping @ 1.50. Jeg boede i Oslo 1988 - 2000.
Var ansatt paa Grand Hotel . Mange gode minder. Unskyld
af begge to ! Som ingen forstaar..!
I've lived in Oslo, many of these buildings are still there 🤯 Thanks for uploading this!!
Yep, apart from the period clothing and traffic this felt very similar
They all looked so content
When this footage was taken Norway had only been completly independent for 7 - 9 years...
Why do people say “it’s weird to think these people are now dead”
No it would be weird if they were still alive
Locations seem to be: Spikersuppa, Youngstorget, Police station (building looks down on Youngstorget), Fire Station(?), Stortorvet(?), Bjørvika og Vippetangen.
Thanks for the info.
It looks like the police station is the one in Møllergata 19, next to Youngstorget. This is also the very same stairs that Vidkun Quisling would surrender after the German capitualtion in 1945.

Stortorvet is correct. The building in the background burned down in the late 1950's and was replaced by a very modern one for Christiania Kredittkasse (later Nordea) and now just shops & offices.
If this had been Bergen instead of Oslo we might have seen my great-great-aunt who was about 13-15 years old when this was filmed. I remember celebrating her 100 year birthday when I was 4, sadly she passed just before her 101 year birthday in 2000. Having lived in 3 different centuries and 2 different millennia. Seeing both world wars and an absolutely massive leap forward in technology.
Not a Norwegian America Line ship, SS "Eskimo" belonged to Wilson Line, Hull, UK. Sailed Oslo (Kristiania) - Kristiansand - Hull.
Sad to think that all these people, even the children, are long dead.
Why do people say things like that? How far back do you wanna go? It’s sad that all the people who built the pyramids are now dead? 🤦🏾
Reincarnated, and dead again, and so on. No one ever dies.

@@mortenhallangen1933Hm I’m not sure if you quite understand the concept of reincarnation? People do actually die. Reincarnation in the buddhist sense is a concept of spiritual and karmic continuation. Physical bodies die, but of course the life forces continues on.
And reborn❤❤❤
It's amazing how many of the buildings are still there!
Cool! :)
Thanks for sharing!
Have a nice day!
The Oslofjorden was clean and full of fisk.❤❤❤
My grandfather would have been the same age as the lads at 4:22. He was born in 1903 in Hardanger on the west coast of Norway.
Great video. Found your video on the reddit post.
Thank you :)
Fantastisk!!!
Thank you.
4:02 the kids were so cuteee😭
Great to see an old film in color. Technology is going forward, no doubt. Thanks for releasing such videos for us all to see, for free. It really brings us closer to the past. Then lets talk feedback on the conversion to color: The color palette is rather limited. Carrots are green, and other vegetables dont have any color to speak of. Most of the mens clothing is blue or purple? Girls dont wear colors? Skintones are to warm, most people back then would probably be more pale. But remember -these are minor complaints on an otherwise great video.
I recognize the vegetable market, it's Youngstorget or Young's square. Building are still up
All of my 8 great grandparents was young adults and living within a 10 minute walk from the locations in this film at that time. Trying to spot mildly familiar faces;-) The woman at 1:48 could easily be my father mother’s mother.
Vikingene pleide å handle over hele Europa og over hele verden, så deres gener finnes nesten overalt.
The life was much harder in Norway in 1912 -14 than it is today. But it ws a nice movie.
I love the hats.
RIP to all those in the video.
1:46 Some distinguished gentlemen
0:47 the woman to the left. Is she using a short tie? I actually like her style
Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, peaceful European countries, far from international conflicts .
Sorry to burst your bubble but Norway, especially Oslo has seen a rather big increase in crime such as stabbings, shootings, problems with drugs etc. Also Norway has been involved in several conflicts
@@O-townplaya Yeah. Because of the immigrants, blacks and muslims
switzerland? are you serious?
@@orangentage Ye. Switzerland was certainly not far from the wars -- it was, however, neutral.

What is the building in the back of video? Time 4:46-5:03. I am very curious to know this
It is Havnelageret. The adress today is Langkaia 1.

I think we all should start wearing dapper hats again.
Look closely at view in back left a dark figure moving super fast to the right. I screened shot some of the views and am dumb founded

I was wondering when we lost this nice habit to wave with a little white cloth. Oh little boys are still same nowadays. Our clothes today are not made of high quality fabric any more. Are we actually poorer now?
It's weird to think that all these people are dead
Why is it weird? It would be weird if they were still alive. Do you think it’s weird that people from 200yrs ago are dead as well? Or people who built the pyramids? 🤦🏾
@@TayWoodeNo..its weird to think that everybody’s gonna die. Everybody you ever loved is gonna die. That is whats weird, and this movie makes you think about that fact.
@@stillcursed5168 it’s not weird, that’s what happens to everyone, what’s weird is people thinking it’s weird these people are dead 🤦🏾

It's pathetic... Our ancestors would HATE modern day Scandinavia
I don't think they'd hate paid vacations, crystal clean air and water, super strict food standards, being able to take a train from Oslo to Bergen, or fly to Spain etc etc.
If you on the other hand mean they were 100% white, well they were probably opposed to being white anyway lol, all ancient European nations imported as many migrants from Africa as they could, it was just harder to do back then. Whites hate themselves.
mute to enjoy
Why all these videos are never wide-screen? It's so easy to just put black bars. These videos are completely unwatchable on TVs.

Love the atmosphere, no pollution as these days.
Pretty sure it smelled way worse then than now.
5:30 - the pollution was really bad back then...
@@andrewhill336 still a lot better than now
@@rohithkumarsp Absolutely not. Imagine all the food prepared over fire, and heating by burning wood and coal. Industry at the edge of the city limits with no modern standards. Barely any sanitation. Just look at the ship towards the end of the video.
Yet another co2 apologetic
All these people have perished back to their Creator Allah. Man, how life is just a blow of wind.
Not a fan of the ai voice
All these people are dead
And people comment that’s weird, when it’d be weird if they were still alive
OMG.... I wondering this..era..in our India we don't have proper dress to wear but they are with good dress and look healthy people in that century...
Living-standards varied greatly between living in the upper class of the city and being a poor farmer on the country or being an industry-worker in the poor quarters of the town.
