I see and hear a lot of Cissy in her. When Cissy sang at Radio city , she was a powerhouse and years later I could easily see how Whitney became one the of greatest singers of all time.

Yes, I can hear where Dionne got her vocal stylings from Auntie Cissy. Cissy is amazing. Elvis knew what him was doing, having her as a backup singer he recorded and toured with.
Whitney’s style of singing was a cleaner form of gospel, while her mother was pure gospel. Both, however, have similar phrasing, which the mother taught Whitney everything she knew. We have to give credit to the mom. She was the only one who could ever touch Whitney.

I honestly feel Dionne and Aretha were better than in her in the storytelling department (just based on what I’ve seen from all three women) because their emotivity was synonymous with their musicianship. Whitney’s storytelling prime was during her “post prime” years (96-04) oddly enough. To me, the kind of music she did during her prime didn’t really allow her much wiggle room to emote to her fullest extent. She was too busy pigeonholed (and exploited) for her power. The proof is in those 1991 performances where she’s hoarse/under the weather where she’s forced to rely more on her storytelling. 91 Whitney and 97 Whitney are VERY similar in that way.
