Hello everyone. FremantleMedia just copyright claimed my recent American Gods reviews (Season 3 Episode 3 & Episode 2) You can see the Re-Upload of my Season 3 Episode 3 review here: ruclips.net/video/XcC5mIHnmrA/видео.html I followed the same Fair Use rules I always do but still got a claim. As a heads up on Episode 2 (not sure where else to put this more appropriate: The ancient Greek at the bottom of Demeter's postcard (transliterates to Ou Pseudomenos) means "Liar" or "He's lying". The choice of "Ou" as the declensive word (basically translates to "the", but some form of it precedes nearly every noun in ancient Greek) emphasizes finality, as if theyd actually included the word "period" at the end. Theres a chance that she left out some potentially meaningful punctuation, but as it reads, thats what it says.
1: 🐉 👁 his skin made me think snake 🐍 at first but the moon in his one eye made me think, in Utah theirs a famous land mark located inside a national park. When the moon is viewed through the rock formation you get what appears to be a dragons eye (moon). So this dragon mentions ragnarok, and has Odin mention conflict from the past. 2: so Odins son shadow has a “thunder”bird for a guide interesting. I dig it. I’ll have to check this series out eventually, I’ve seen a lot of conflicting opinions on it. (I enjoy graham green so I’ll prob check this out solely bc of him.)
Through this season so far this season seems more deliberate which was a nice change. That being said, the strongest parts are all the ones directly from the book still.
I thought that "War is just a shot away" might be a hint that Shadow is the only one that can prevent all out war between the factions of gods, and that if she'd shot him it would have been a forregone conclusion that war will happen.
War's gonna happen alright.. it'll be interesting how they depict it, as the book version was rather vague. Non-book people are in for a hell of a ride.
I noticed a few easter eggs you neglected to mention about the roadmap when Shadow is traveling to Lakeside: - First, as the bus passes Mt. Rushmore, the left most face on the miniature bears a striking resemblance to Wednesday's face, maybe metaphorically reinforcing that he is keeping an eye on Shadow's whereabouts. - Second, the drunken Santa figure *IS* a reference to Wednesday. In some versions of the myth surrounding the Norse holiday of Yule, Odin takes on a form called Sinterklaas and visits homes to bring gifts to children. It is also partially this myth that includes Krampus, who would steal the children that have been bad. - Third, you actually mentioned Big Ollie, which is self explanatory. However, if you watch closely, the viking's shadow is shaped like a thunderbird. ( pause video at 10:31 ) - If there is a reference relating to the dinosaur, I don't know it. - And finally, the The thunderbird figurine just before he reaches Lakeside. Again, self explanatory.
I just saw this video, and I just wanted to mention that I thought Whisky Jacks skin looked more like a eagle foot rather than snake skin. It would fit his mythology more.
did you notice Odins face on Mount rushmore? And did you notice the scenes with Hinzelmann speaking to Shadow? if you watch the tv its like Nosferatu was listening to their conversation.
I didn't notice Rushmore, but did notice Nosferatu after I had uploaded. It's a German expressionist horror film, and I'll just say Hinzlemann is German.
@@StoryDive Interesting. Thanks. I always watch the tv's in the background of this show as they seem to be relevent to whats happening. I noticed that in season 1 anytime dead wife had the tv on at home, the cartoons playing seemed signifigant to what she was doing.

Your my life line because I don't have Starz, the plan is to wait till the season is over then use my prime membership to try the 7 day free trial and watch as many episodes in those 7 days before cancelling
"I'm sure things will pick up next episode" was pretty much every episode of S2. It went from a series I loved and looked forward to to one I dreaded covering on the podcast. I am firmly in skeptic mode from this point on.
Shadows hat looked like a reference to horned helmets that vikings are often portrayed with. I believe media was becoming aware that shadow is in lakeside which is why shadow first stares at the tv (which is beginning to stare back at him) and then turns away as he suspects that he is being watched. As for santa clause... he isn't Odin but i would say that odin has certainly inspired the figure of santa clause. That way the santa figure on the roadtrip makes a lot more sense since most of the other objects were viking themed. It looked like odins head replaced one of the stone faces for example. I also loved that bilquis rose back to power through the help of an app like tinder and how she demonstrated how powerful the old gods can be. I wasn't always a fan of her character but i really like the current direction of her character. I at first didn't really like or understand why mr world had been recast since i really liked the old actor but the reasoning in the show that white men aren't really popular at the moment instantly changed my mind and i loved the choice to switch it up - i just hope that people don't simplify it to "white men are bad". It's honestly amazing how the show is weaving in modern references in a 20 year old story even though many of these topics weren't quite as present or in some instances didn't even exist back then (e.g. tinder) without making it seem forced. There were so many amazing details but those are some of the ones i can think of off the top of my head.
I could be wrong but Anansi didn't just take a trip across the Atlantic by himself. It was the worship/belief of the slaves that created that manifestation and those beliefs continued to be passed down through the generations through fables. I doubt he could leave either.
Holy Carp ! I had no idea about this series 🚧 When I was a kid - we watched “ Star Trek “ No wonder the younger generation are so intense ....🚥🚥🚥 LoL 😀😂😉
Yo i feel like tecnoboy is going to end up joining the old gods in the war. Thats where i see them heading with his character arc, or if he dosnt join the old gods he might end up becoming natural in the war and helping both sides come to an agreement that can benefit both sides
@@itzwillyboy2377 the nebula baby. The man eating coochie. You see how that boy couldn't maintain eye contact with bilquis. She tried in season 1 to seduce him. I think she'll try again and win "the fight"
Actually Odin is Santa Claus, in old Germanic/Scandinavian tradition, Odin would use his raven to find out who was good and bad, children would leave their shoes outside with hay in for sleipnir his eight legged horse (eight reindeer) and in return Odin would leave carved figurines, this tale has been combined with others (Saint Nicholas) to create the modern "father Christmas".
I was just watching some documentaries on early fur traders/explorers of Canada. There are stories of explorers coming upon rattlesnakes (not common in Canada). In one story, the Algonquin guides wouldn't let the explorers kill the snake. They said it was one of their ancestors. They blew smoke from their pipes at the rattlesnake, and the snake went away satisfied. Algonquin, Ojibwe or Cree nation in these stories. In any case, it was clear that rattlesnakes were ancestors.
1 - I was kind of surprised that given the opportunity to grill Wednesday for some answers, Shadow did not get around to asking him about Laura's death and why he had her killed? That was a major piece of news that Shadow learned of in the penultimate episode of season two that one would think would rock his world to its core. Consider how recent that act was that would have been my number one question. I'm hoping that that topic will be saved as conflict for another episode. 2 - Speaking of Dead Wife, I didn't realize that in the season three trailer there was a shot of her running from something while wearing that same outfit she initially died in back in season one. So her second "death" in this episode is going to perhaps eventually intersect with that initial one somehow. Happy to see the return of Maman Brigitte btw. 3 - Shadow's interaction with Whiskey Jack wouldn't have amounted for much in my mind if it was not for Whiskey Jack likely manipulating the situation to get an audience alone with Shadow before Wednesday found his way to him. This shows how this is not going to be a repeat of season one with Shadow being the side player during Wednesday's meetings with other gods. He is now becoming the more pivotal figure. But why? By the way those passageways located within the frames of the Winnebagoes/mobile homes are a stroke of genius that I do not recall from the books. 4 - Was at first disappointed with the casting news of Julia Sweeney as Hinzelmann but now I am completely onboard. She is already so perfectly disarming. 5 - All the Lakeside stuff were spot on.
I don't know much about Whiskey Jack. But I am curious as to why he appear in a cowboy getups. Would it be more appropriate to have him wear something that contemporary Native American wear nowadays? Or more traditional clothing?
Hi, I've just seen your video with your explanations which I found very interesting. Thank you for that. You said you'd like some comments if we notice anything u did not. These Gods are our celebs, politicians, big tech people. They are very wealthy avatars in this game. This show gives so much away to us. At 10:54... “She seems very nice, that’s all I’m going to say” I’m guessing she isn’t nice... I haven’t read the books so I found that to be very interesting and very funny 😆
I don't think so either. For her to have this incomplete potion and all these unresolved feelings for Mad Sweeney only for the writers to say, "Oh well, she's dead now". That wouldn't make any sense.
This scene of her going to dust and the coin felling out of Sweeney's hand made me very emotionally unstable hahaha.WTF. This can't be the end of these two characters.or at least not like this. In this video he jumped it like they did in the episode. I mean really? Noone cares?
how come they always emphasize Odin is so old.... if he is an American God, he began to exist when people in america started to believe in him. Does it makes sense? in first season they were saying he's older than earth
Because this guy is kinda wrong..in the scene Odin says he can't leave or he will cease to exist but he also said it's because gods can't go back to where they come from once they go to America. I don't know how he missed that part in his review.. I think it's like a banishment for choosing to become and American God.
Mr. Wednesday is only the American version of Odin, not the original one, which was created by the first Viking explorers who set foot on the new continent; in A.G.'s universe each deity has multiple and independent incarnations depending on how people see them. Practically, Wednesday is Odin, but Odin (the original god) is not Wednesday.
I don't have cable anymore so I can't watch season 3 in real time ( hopefully it will come to Hulu or Netflix) so I'm going to watch your recaps & follow along. I read the book & the show has deviated & expanded on the source material. I don't remember the Native American symbolism/mythology being as prominent or really making much sense in the book. Just like Mad Sweenie, I hope it is expanded on. My only guess for making Whiskey Jack have snake like skin was a reference to Nordic Mythology & Ragnarok & the sea serpent Jormungadr( a child of Loki). It was perhaps an image evoked to intimidate Wednesday? That's my best guess. Loki is also a shapeshifter & trickster god...
This was a good start for Season 3 in my opinion now that the legend Neil Gaiman is also producing, I expect good things from this season, though I will miss Orlando Jones Mr. Nancy,I look forward to this season ,see yall next sunday #GodSpeed #HailTheAllFather

Hinzenlmanns scene has nosfaratu playing on the tv eluding to the characters nature.
But Hinzlemann is not a vampire. It is a kobold.
@@maxm.9992 I just meant as a sinister force more so than literally calling her one. But I get it
Yep, def caught that.
Keep an eye on the lake
The cinematography and sets were fantastic as usual in this one. It's like all the tv show showrunners borrow little bits from each other.
So glad you got your wish of Graham Green being Whiskey Jack!
Thank you I love these breakdowns!
I hope eventually we get the truth on why Shadow has had his birthright hidden from him.
That lacefront puppy had on was HORRENDOUS
Maybe Whiskey Jack takes a snake like form to intimidate Mr Wednesday as he may fear Jörmungandr since he plays a big part in Ragnarok
That's a great theory
@@nandinhocunha440 thank you very much
I was wondering if you were gonna do these reviews! Love the vids!!
On the road map bit, I’m pretty sure Wednesday’s face replaced Washington’s on Mount Rushmore
Through this season so far this season seems more deliberate which was a nice change. That being said, the strongest parts are all the ones directly from the book still.
Seeing Manson Playing YoHan Hailing The All Father is Amazing !
Aaannndd... He's gone. Welcome to cancel culture youhou 🤦
Random thing I saw - Look at the faces on Mount Rushmore - Washington looks like Odin & is smiling
im pretty sure there is a meaning for Nosferatu playing on the TV in the background when Shadow meets Hinzelmann; which is a VERY german name ....
I thought that "War is just a shot away" might be a hint that Shadow is the only one that can prevent all out war between the factions of gods, and that if she'd shot him it would have been a forregone conclusion that war will happen.
In the book one shot literally starts the war. I don't know if the series will go there
War's gonna happen alright.. it'll be interesting how they depict it, as the book version was rather vague. Non-book people are in for a hell of a ride.
The shadow of the Viking statue was a Raven(or other bird) as well. Awesome!
Wasn't it the thunderbird we hear and see a lot around lakeside?
I noticed a few easter eggs you neglected to mention about the roadmap when Shadow is traveling to Lakeside:
- First, as the bus passes Mt.
( pause video at 10:31 )
- If there is a reference relating to the dinosaur, I don't know it.
- And finally, the The thunderbird figurine just before he reaches Lakeside. Again, self explanatory.
No Orlando Jones, No Support... his scenes were 🔥🔥🔥
I needed this! Thanks!!! ❤️💃🏾
Also in the store where he meets ann you can see Nosferatu on the screen notice and visibly react to seeing Shadow, being new media
I just saw this video, and I just wanted to mention that I thought Whisky Jacks skin looked more like a eagle foot rather than snake skin. It would fit his mythology more.
Great review, liked and subscribed!
I am not really familiar with some mythological characters in this series and I am glad the writers are including them
Religious characters*
Enaemaehkiw could have been a play on annunaki. The snake (naga) people.
did you notice Odins face on Mount rushmore?
Honestly I’m really really enjoying season 3 episode 2 was awesome and I like the vibe hopefully they keep it going also I like the town he’s in it’s kinda grounds his situation and we meet new characters specifically his land lord

I remember the last season we had many discussions, good times.
I found Easter egg
10:30 when the thunder strike watch the shadow of the Viking statute.
Yes, I didn't mention that because I figured it was another reference to Odin's Raven's but I now realize it's the symbol of the Ojibwe/Chippewa nation, who are in Minnesota. Great Easter Egg!

Heres to hope they manage to put in the man in the charcoal suit in and we get more info on him.
"I'm sure things will pick up next episode" was pretty much every episode of S2. It went from a series I loved and looked forward to to one I dreaded covering on the podcast. I am firmly in skeptic mode from this point on.
Mr Road was the agent who was in charge of the road block
08:15 I wasn't the only one to get scared right?
No :))
How is odin going to die when leaving the shores while anansi or the spidergod came on a boat to america?
I could be wrong but Anansi didn't just take a trip across the Atlantic by himself. It was the worship/belief of the slaves that created that manifestation and those beliefs continued to be passed down through the generations through fables. I doubt he could leave either.
Holy Carp ! I had no idea about this series 🚧
When I was a kid - we watched “ Star Trek “
No wonder the younger generation are so intense ....🚥🚥🚥

Wow someone else says "holy carp"! Not just me!

Yo i feel like tecnoboy is going to end up joining the old gods in the war. Thats where i see them heading with his character arc, or if he dosnt join the old gods he might end up becoming natural in the war and helping both sides come to an agreement that can benefit both sides
*Neutral
Techno boy will end up in the nebula.
@@Nonyani the ..........what
@@itzwillyboy2377 the nebula baby. The man eating coochie. You see how that boy couldn't maintain eye contact with bilquis. She tried in season 1 to seduce him. I think she'll try again and win "the fight"
He might end up in the nebula but he is God therefore other version of techBoy will show up anyway
Very interesting. The Algonquin and Cree do tell stories of Wisakedjak so there might be a connection there.
@@StoryDive and we all know that a snake is a trickster
His scaley face might be a reference to Amaru. Or it might be a reference to reptilian aliens/demons (ie the trickster serpent).
Omg.... you seen clear cut.. my favourite Redman terminator
I think while he is Whiskey Jack he dresses like a modern Native man living on a reserve.
@@StoryDive I thought so too. But I also thought that perhaps he should have some more decorative items on him. After all, he was in the Backstage.
GENIUS!!

“She seems very nice, that’s all I’m going to say”
I’m guessing she isn’t nice... I haven’t read the books so I found that to be very interesting and very funny 😆
I don't thinks Laura it's actually, permanently dead 👀
I don't think so either. For her to have this incomplete potion and all these unresolved feelings for Mad Sweeney only for the writers to say, "Oh well, she's dead now". That wouldn't make any sense.
This scene of her going to dust and the coin felling out of Sweeney's hand made me very emotionally unstable hahaha.WTF.
This can't be the end of these two characters.or at least not like this.
In this video he jumped it like they did in the episode.
I mean really?
Noone cares?
I thought ms world's assistants were named misdirect and distract...isn't that what she called them in the show 🤔
Dr. Fap 🤣🤣
Awesome video!!
how come they always emphasize Odin is so old.... if he is an American God, he began to exist when people in america started to believe in him.
Hi Story Drive, I just want to point out the Yoruba is not a religion, its a tribe from West Africa, Nigeria. Thanks mate, I love your videos
