  • What does it mean to fear the Lord? Should Christians really be afraid of God, or does this fear have a greater meaning? In this seminar, Dr. Michael Reeves addresses the fear of God as a central theme in Scripture and an important characteristic of our lives as believers.
This seminar is from Upholding Christian Ethics, our 2022 National Conference: • Upholding Christian Et...

This man is amazing, his godly knowledge and wisdom is so commendable, what a lovely man and we should all be so grateful for him to be able to deliver Gods word so beautifully.

The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm. For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

Jeremiah 2:19 (KJV) Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Oh that preachers would teach the fear of the Lord. I have learned to fear God. But in all my trials and burdens of being conformed to the image of the Son ( Romans 8:28-30) ,when the hatred and betrayal of loved ones drops me to the ground, I run to God from the fear of man’s hatred. The fear of God is pure and endures forever. The fear of God is the key to His treasure. The fear of God is the guardrail against the fear of man and the doctrines of demons. The guardrail which keeps us from going over the edge and plunging into the fear of all else and to our destruction. The wise man builds his house upon the rock by obeying the warnings of the coming storms which will test every person’s work , and shows the house on the rock standing, while the disobedient person’s work will leave standing just a fool.

very Helpful thank You,I was thought before that fearing God is like He is angry all the time and I thought anytime God's will punish me because of my sin against Him and leads me to anxiety.

The church in this era needs to hear more about the right fear of the Lord. And the world needs to hear more about the judgement and wrath to come on them from God and be very afraid. And that fear drive them to the Cross!

Have I misunderstood the Bible's idea of the fear of the Lord? I don't understand what I have heard here as the fear of the LORD, which sounds more like my childhood feelings toward Mother.
As a child, I was afraid of my mother, but not of my father. My feeling toward Father was that I feared displeasing him, so I tried to always do what would please Him -- what would make him happy. I thought that fearing GOD was more like my feelings toward Father: I just wanted desperately to do what would make Father happy because I loved him so deeply.

How could Martin Luther after all the revelation he had then produce such venom against the Jews thus providing Hitler with a handbook. This is a great dilemma for many of us Christian’s (born again of The Spirit of The Lord) that he remains so much quoted and a hero in evangelical and reformed churches. Can Dr Reeves help.

This is great teaching. Also, this is the first non-heathen comment on this video. Why would atheists watch a video on the fear of God? Truly makes you wonder

"This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed."
      John 3:19‭-‬20 NASB
I think this will shed some light on that question. Unregenerate men hate our lord Jesus and revile those who follow Him. Which manifests itself in posting God hating comments on videos. Let us not fret though!

As an unrepentant heathen myself, the answer is curiosity, was searching for a different Michael Reeves, saw this one in the search, the extreme dichotomy between the two michaels made me curious enough to check it out, the internet is big my friend, statistically speaking it is near impossible for any one video to be solely watched by the intended target audience.

@@iamthemetalgod That is good point there. It is no accident that you were brought to this video. It was the providence of God. I pray that God will draw you to himself and that you do repent (turn from being an unregenerate heathen) and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ! I am glad to hear of non-christians watching videos like this one.

Okay back up, the fear of God is more the respect of God. Example you walk up and you see a rattlesnake 5 ft away you respect that rattlesnake you don't go running at it or go up and pet it because you know what will happen if you do so you respect. Because you know bad things will happen if you don't.

If you love the queens English, invite Richard Dawkins. The additional favour is, you could learn something useful. Fear of god is as reasonable as fear of Lord Voldemort. Both are characters of fiction.
